I know this is an Old Post but the information is excellent I just ordered one of these cards off Amazon a few hours ago and there are around $32 now I just received my first Mil Dot scope of course with Mil Dot adjustments 6×24×50 Second focal plane it's all I can afford at this time. I’ve been using one of these since 1998 and I wouldn’t trade it for any reason. As long as you know how much your round drops you just can’t go wrong. I made a drop info card and taped it to mine and have never failed to engage whatever target I needed to.😎

Also very handy in certain hunting situations when you have antler restrictions,like Alaskan bull MOOSE. Must have 50 inch spread or larger. Just need to know range to Moose and measure antler spread in mill. Line up range to target and read size next to mills. Can save your butt a lot of money in fines.

Amen Mr Rex. I don’t know what I’d do without my MilDot Master. Was hunting with some friends and my rangefinder failed cause the weather. It over heated. When I pulled out the old trust Civilian sniper log book I’ve made, my friends looked at me a little funny. 997 yards coyote down. But it does take a lot of practice.

Thanks for the explanation Rex. Been looking forward to this one since the field kit vids. Had this basically figured out from the distractions... instructions. Problem is, I'm a "monkey see, monkey do" guy. Unlike my oldest boy who's a "monkey read, monkey do" type. Must get it from his mom. Just got my new USO ST-10 (per your recommendation) delivered and installed today. Shooting tomorrow. Honestly much of the power of the mildot system is lost when doing conversions like this. It makes it way more complicated than it needs to be. Forget inches. Memorize the size of things in millimeters and divide by the number of mills. Breathtakingly simple. If you see a rather tall man (1800mm) 3 mils tall in your scope, he's 600 meters away. If you see an average size passenger vehicle (5000mm) 10 mils long in your scope, it's 500 meters away. If you want to do less math rather than more math, just know the size of things in millimeters. Write the sizes of things down in your book in millimeters.
@silvawill89
@silvawill89 5 лет назад
Does zooming scope affect this math?
@ibanezrg320fm
@ibanezrg320fm 5 лет назад
@@silvawill89 It depends on if your scope is a Second Focal Plane or a First Focal Plane. Scopes that say SFP is second, FFP is First. The SFP scopes usually have to be zoomed all the way in for your reticle to be accurate. A FFP increases the reticle size when you zoom in. So if you're on 4 power, your reticle is going to be small. When you start to zoom in, your reticle will get bigger until you're at your max zoom setting. It doesn't matter for FFP scopes because the reticle adjusts for this automatically. Unfortunately SFP scopes can't do this. But you have to read your scopes manual because they "can" call for a different zoom level for your scope to be accurate. So it depends on which type of scope you have, SFP vs FFP. You also have to read your manual on the reticle distance between each dot. One dot to the next dot may be 1 mil, or it could be 1/2 mil. So yes thats important and can definitely change your accuracy.
@silvawill89
@silvawill89 5 лет назад
@@ibanezrg320fm my scope is a hawke vantage 6x24x44 with SFP half dot reticle. Unfortunately the owners manual says nothing about the distance between the dots ans half marks in the reticle.
@ibanezrg320fm
@ibanezrg320fm 5 лет назад
@@silvawill89 It's located on their website. I found it in 10 seconds. Go to their website and choose Products, Rifle Scopes, Vantage, Vantage SF and then Reticle Information. It shows everything there.
@1969darr
@1969darr 5 лет назад
@@silvawill89 One mil is 3.6" @ 100yds not meters. So simply go out to yur favorite range, put out a target at 100 yds, measure 3.6" elevation from yur target zero make a mark on the target. Go back to shooting position and adjust yur scope power until the cross hair is on center and the second dot is on yur mark, Viola you now know what power setting the scope is calibrated for. Most variable scopes are factory set at 10x, but dont bet on it. SFP in a nutshell. Good hunting.

I have another request...How do you feel about the kestrel devices? I'd like to hear your opinion on both the Kestrel for atmospherics and also the Kestrel that includes the built in ballistic solver. I use a log book currently and get a baseline with jbm online, but was curious about the Kestrel devices. I'd kind of like to hear your opinion and get more information on them before dropping that kind of coin.

For Rex and all the precision guys: A sniper challenge. 1) put down two man size targets space them ~100m apart (side to side and distance), 2) drive to a new (unknown) shooting spot at least 900 meters away, 3) make a 1 shot hit with first bullet, 4) if you miss you must do the second shot on the other target. (to simulate a moved target) The clock start ticking from the moment you exit the car until you hit a target. Can you do it? How fast is your team? Off cause weather etc is going to make a big difference, but I think it's a nice challenge, as it involves the whole system.

width or height. Which is it? First you did it with height and then with the car, you did it with width and called it height. Plus, what power of magnification do we use. If I look at something at 4x and then at 15x. The target will cover more mil dots at 15x changing the calculations. Right?

GREAT INFO, TNX REX, YOUR INFOS ARE A BLESSING, THE ONLY question I have, how would you know your target's exact sizes? Is it just guessing, or you have to have all these info, when you enter a battle zone?! Because sometimes in the desert, you don't have anything to measure a d verify your distance. I just want to know how do you manage in those situations. Thank you again for all your info and hard work. P.S. DOES THIS WORK WITH THE ROUND MILDOT SCOPE RETICLE AS WELL?I HAVE A FEW SCOPES THAT THE MILS ARE PERFECTLY ROUND, NOT IN THE SHAPE OF THE MILS YOU ARE SHOWING HERE ON THIS CARD.

I love this video Rex. I've had one for years and never used it. But if the electronics goes away it's a great back up. Question, when determining the down angle the string works good but when you point the card up hill the string gives you nada...do you just which to the other hole when looking up hill or do the makers of the card assume you will have the high ground and will be looking down on your quarry?
