LONG RANGE AMERICA Fuel Tank and MAGNAFLOW Exhaust Installation

The final thing we wanted to do to Red before we drop in a new 22RE was to install a Long Range America 125L fuel tank. We really want to avoid carrying jerry cans on the roof, and I (Richard) hate the weight/complexity/cost of rear bumper swing outs, so we decided to carry our extra fuel under the truck.
Although we’ve only run into a couple situations over the years (Laguna’s Route in Bolivia, and somewhere in Patagonia are the two that come to mind) where we’ve needed a bunch of additional fuel, we’re definitely looking forward to the 700km+ fuel range.
The fuel tank install required a change to the exhaust, so we installed a Magnaflow universal hot rod kit.
Parts used:
TH105HR Long Range America 125L Fuel Tank
650133 Russell Filter
624163 Russell 90-Degree Twist-Lock -6 AN to 3/8” Barb Fitting x2
624010 Russel Straight Twist-Lock -6 AN to 3/8” Barb Fitting x2
GSL391 Walbro In-Line Fuel Pump
10701 2.25” Magnaflow Universal Hot Rod Stainless Steel Kit
12286 2.5” Magnaflow Universal Muffler (I used a 2.5” muffler because it was available locally… a 2.2”" muffler would have been ideal)

I just checked the price, thinking it would be about $500. Nope, they want $2,245.00. Not kidding!

Yeah, they're not inexpensive. When you compare that to a $1500 roof rack or $4000 rear swingout bumper to carry jerry cans the price starts to make more sense.

So one of the reasons External fuel pumps struggle/die is because of heat. The in fuel pumps use the fuel on the outside of the pump to keep them cool. So my fear for you with the sleeve on the fuel pump is that it could insulate the pump causing it to heat up. Also may be an idea to see if you could find like a 1/8 scale RC motor heat sink to put on the pump to keep it cool in those hot days in Africa!

I'm used to my silverado 25 gallon tank, I love me new tacoma but it's tiny gas tank drives me nuts. This should do nicely if they make it for my trucks gen

Nice, clean setup. I noticed my 37 year old fuel sender has started to act up, it reads empty once it hits 3/4 tank, so definitely going to replace it with a genuine Toyota part like you did. Are you also considering rebuilding your transfercase as well?

How much space you have between those LP9s? I have my winch box centered and I'm trying to figure out if I have enough room on each side for the LP9 or need to get the LP6.
