I have owned the HU800AWD (which is similar to the HU800AWDH) for almost 8 Years and these are my thoughts on how this mower has held up over these years and some tips to maintain it.

FYI, I did switch to the NEW EGO twin blade electric lawn mower and ended up returning it. EGO doesn't have same power compared to this mower... so I ended up exchanging it for a new Honda HRX217 instead and I am very happy with it.

Do you feel the lost of AWD?
@Mr-Chris
@Mr-Chris 4 года назад
@@superfish7 I only noticed the lack of AWD when the grass is a little wet. Other than that during normal cutting conditions it makes no difference. With my new Honda lawn mower I am enjoying the fact that I can cut and mulch grass very well.

I never had to replace my blade adapter in the 9 plus years I've had my mower. I did upgrade to the metal baffle when I replaced the front transmission. I still love my almost 10 year old HU800AWD. Thanks for the review.

China metal love rust. All the chrome parts from China as well. I remember those years on the 70’ everything made here in the U.S.A was high Quality. I still own a Schwinn bicycle from 1972 and the chrome look like new.

Awesome video, lots of information. I have had one since 2013 and haven't had that many issues, although yours has been cared for MUCH more thoroughly. Do you have any videos of servicing the transmissions? I'm starting to feel a loss of power and the pulley is pretty hot. Wanted to see a working one for reference.

I have the same mower and I haven't done any transmission replacements or had any problems with the mechanical parts. I do have rust on the deck which I addressed today. I haven't looked underneath the baffle in the front so I'm sure that it's a mess. Thanks for posting.

Hello. I just got one. What do you think about spraying the underside with bedliner? Thanks for your time
@Mr-Chris
@Mr-Chris 3 года назад
It might cause grass to stick to the deck making mulching and cutting performance worse. I would recommend using some sort of Teflon spray instead.

My mower has a rusted out front transmission which I have disconnected from the front wheels so it is now only rear-wheel drive. The design of the front cover is terrible as it traps grass under it and is difficult to remove for service. The factory blade grind is also sub-optimal; a 30-degree grind improves mulching performance substantially.

Great video Chris! I purchased the newer edition with the Honda engine. I wanted a Toro but I had a Lowe's charge card. I must say it still does a horrible job at mulching. And I'm one of those people who leave the waterhose coupler on the mower (thanks, I'll be removing that this afternoon!). I don't even want to go through the things you went through with the repairs. I'm curious as to what was your new mower purchase and how much you were able to get for your Husqvarna?
@Mr-Chris

I have a few videos on my channel reviewing my new EGO mower and I make a couple of mentions about how it compares to the Husqvarna. I sold my husqvarna for $200. Overall I am happy switching to battery electric. However I'm a little concerned about the fall because I used to adjust my husqvarna to run faster during the fall to mulch leaves and in not sure if the battery powered mowers are any good at that. One of good things I can say that come from me owning and fixie the Husqvarna is that it taught me a lot about small engines. So much so that I've started buying cheap used lawn mowers and fixing them just as a hobby.

@@Mr-Chris I have an old Toro perfect pace with an electric turn key start that has been down for a while. We moved into a condo 5yrs ago and I didn't need a mower so I let my mother in law use it....... And my wife's uncle ended up with it and let's just say, it needs some work. I'm going to follow your lead and work on that slowly to get it back to running! I'm going to subscribe. You deserve it, if for nothing more that the coupler advice! Peace Bro!

Bottom engine cover traps grass and debris in drive system due to its opening being too large.

Have you ever pulled the front or rear transmissions apart to add lube or inspect? I cannot find any vids on this in my research before trying it. May just dive in....LOL

I just pulled my rear one apart because it would suddenly try to jump into gear. The grease was gone. I cleaned out with mineral sprits and applied hi temp red-n-tacky gear axle grease. No issues anymore.

Rear drive tension spring is too flimsy and breaks frequently. Slightly larger flat washer under blade bolt will prolong blade adapter wearing out.

I'll say it once before and I'll say it again, I Husqvarna is like owning a BMW of lawn mowers and he requires just as much maintenance. however what I didn't think was that the parts would be so shabby and so absolutely low-quality and some of the parts that you purchase for example the actual mounting for The Wheels on the lower-tier models. in my opinion the only lawn mower from Husqvarna that you should buy or the heavy duty models that actually have real wheel bearings otherwise if he use your lawn mower like most normal people do? You'll have to replace not only axle but the wheels and the gears along with everything behind it just about every season if you have a moderate sized lawn tomorrow too large. Especially if you have heels and difficult Terrain. Husqvarna has these heavy duty wheels that they actually have wheel bearings inside of them I suggest that if you want to keep your non heavy duty lawn mowers going don't bother with just replacing the wheels with the same OEM ones that came stock I'm trying out the ones with the wheel bearings and see if I can get them to fit and work properly. the second thing is actually the wheel adjusters which will actually been the wheels if you go up on any sort of incline or even just mowing with a heavy bag of grass in the back. This causes the actual gear set to deflect and it starts chewing up the gears and then eventually you don't have any push on the mower at all from the wheels as it starts chewing up the gears. it's no wonder why a lot of the big box stores no longer carry the Husqvarna mowers anymore especially the all-wheel drive versions since just about every year you have to take it in for something being broke.

Wow, I had plans to buy Huasqvarna, but now I am not sure what to buy.
@MickeyMishra
@MickeyMishra 3 года назад
@@macarows4014 I feel you man. I spent more money this year on just keeping mine going then it would cost to just buy a new lawnmower. I'm actually putting in an order for 3 more idler pulleys as we speak. I tried the wheel bearing wheels of the High wheel models with the larger wheels, and they did not fit. So.... I even tried the Honda Wheels. No go... So. I made a CUSTOM Wheel bearing setup. This keeps the Wheel on the drive cogs and allows them just a BIT of Deflection, but FAR LESS then stock. Also, the REAR wheels are not BRACED. I did not bother with making custom metal mounts. I just went to Home Depot in the wood section and found these wood shims that work PERFECT all for $4.50. Stuck them in behind the adjusters, and they are working PERFECT! Almost NILL deflection or bending. Even on Really high loads. Perfect! Now its time to replace all the PLASTIC on the bottom. And the Nuts that broke or have gone with the wind so to speak. When I'm done with that, It will be time to replace the motor. I would rebuild it. But its cheaper to buy the whole motor then get the rebuild parts. And the Starter pull rope clutch is now starting to give some issues. You want my Advice? Just get a Honda and be done with it. Get the Plastic Deck and never worry about buying another one for a LONG time. No Rust. No parts always breaking etc. Or just get one of the "Lectric" mowers with a 5 year. They just last longer. And if anything goes wrong? Just drop it off and let someone else fix it.

I didn't have to replace a transmission on my 2013 HU800AWD until the 8 year mark. I replaced the adjuster bearings with sealed bearings and replaced the belt and idler pulleys. My main problem is rust on the housing. It has a couple of holes in it. I managed to buy a couple of used HU800AWD mowers with housings in great shape for their age. I'm in the process of refinishing the last mower I bought and will replace the housing on my original mower with that housing and have a bunch of good parts left over to maintain the other two mowers. I can't find a better mower anywhere so I'm sticking with what I love.
