Thanks for the additional information I watched these back to back and I love your guy's video's. I really appreciate and value how real and down to earth you guys are. I doubt you will but please don't ever change when your channel blows up which it will! Your a hard working every man and a free hand sharpener which I can relate, and you actually care about your followers. In the last video I read so so many comments to learn more about this system and you also find the time to read them all and respond to them. I spent so long reading them and didn't even read them all and Im off work right now lol. I love the respect! Awesome channel!

No problem bro! Everyone needs to hear good shit when they work hard. People just dont say it enough. Just like when someone does something real good for anyone or does right by me I try to let others know even they are not asking for that. Just why not it doesn't hurt anything. Im a very hard worker. I kill myself more than the guy beside me everyday no matter the day or who Im working with. At shit jobs you dont always hear it or at all, but others I did like one job I had. I was plumbing and doing a lot of oil tanks and burners and every customers house I went to told me so this is the young go getter I've been hearing so much about. Ehat a good boss. Really smart because it brightens your day and a happy worker is a good worker. Well usually depending on the person.

So, dont know if this is something you would ever do. But I read about this on someone else's channel, tried it and man did it work. So The first knife had a relatively good edge so I started at 600. I went probably a few more strokes than suggested at like 12-14. As you say the jump from "600" to the ceramic is huge and it was taking a ton of time. So here's the trick. Instead of just going to the ceramic and spending a year on that grit you get this stuff called "aleens tack it over and over" You apply that to the ceramic with a finger getting a thin coat all over the ceramic. Now before this you have ordered up some automotive sandpaper. You can get 3 sheets of each grit from 120 all the way to 5000 you take all the grits you need and cut out strips which for this is 1/2"x4. This tack it stuff is insane once its "dry" after a couple minutes you can tack on your first strip. You would think it would slide around and not work. False, its rock steady doesnt move a millimeter. But what about the rest of the strips? Literally every strip can be removed and a new one added with no loss in holding power. The tack it stuff is 5 bucks, the auto sandpaper is six bucks for that giant pack so for 11 dollars you get tons of new grits and the ability to dial it in. Now what about the cyramic stone? The tack it shit is water solluble so when you are done you just wash the stone and its like new. Anyway I thought Id share what id discovered. Every edge ive done so far is like mirror. Im not being boastful im just trying to help fellow knife folks! Cheers

There are a number of aftermarket "braces" you can get to eliminate that play/movement in the jaw mount... they are specific to to that Work Shop sharpener model, run about $12-17, and are easy to use. They slide between the base and the bottom of the jaws, and prevent the jaws from moving down with pressure. To locate one use search term 'Clamp Arm Brace for Work Sharp Precision Adjust' at the usual places you might buy and or bid on things.

The only shitty thing that he does not seem to mention is they are aluminum oxide lapping films, so you shouldn’t really use them on anything like S30V and up in Vanadium content. He always seems to sharpen cheap knives with his 3M lapping film technique. Anytime he sharpens anything even close to a “super steel” he uses a more expensive sharpening method with diamond stones.

That's a good review, man, and I came to the same conclusion. Killer price point, that movement is problematic. Love your thumb trick to stabilize the blade. I see this as an awesome tool for someone who wants to give sharpening a try to see if they like it and if they do they can set aside a few more bucks for whatever higher end system catches their eye. This is still a value add tool to the sharpening community and I hope it helps get more people interested in sharpening.

Thanks for your first Precision Adjust video and the Long Term Update Work Sharp Precision Adjust Sharpener. I was thinking about buying that or Work Sharp’s Guided Sharpening System. Great video thanks. Thanks for the things to keep in mind when I use mine once it arrives. I was think if I clamp the sharpener down to the table I may be able to add a block of wood that was the exact size to fit just under and back out of the way the prevented is from moving down when I press the stone down to hard by accident stopping any movement so it doesn't have the problems of uneven sharpening resulting in the splotchy finish. Also maybe putting something under the sharpening stone to shim up any play so it doesn't move in and out when you apply pressure.

I just bought one yesterday. I re profiled my esee 3 from 20deg to 15deg. The 600 grit doesn't remove enough material like I feel it should. I would definitely like to see a more coarse stone for that issue. It took me quite along time to get a burr with that 600. Would also like to see a leather strop add on too. I have a small turnbuckle with plastic feet on both ends and used that under where the knife clamps on to keep it from sagging down when sharpening. Seemed to work very well for me. Overall it's a great system. Has room for improvements though and I'm sure Work Sharp will bring us some additions for it soon

Springs (or rubber grommets) against the bumpstops!!! The lightest of firm bumps will shake the whole assembly even while holding it. You'll get going. You'll go a little faster and a little harder than you meant to. Pretty stiff springs (or rubber grommets) will last long and give just enough and push just enough to help keep thinks flat.

I've noticed on most of the knives that you display after sharpening, you seem to have reprofiled the angle quite a bit. Especially that kubey eris in this vid, my factory edge is at way less of an angle. Is this because you personally prefer a higher angled edge? I assume this increases the sharpness, but needs to be touched up more often since there's less metal backing up the very edge? Also how do you recommend fixing a rounded tip? I've seen some say to reprofile the spine instead of the edge which I don't think is a good idea. Thanks and sorry for all the questions.
@NeevesKnives
@NeevesKnives 3 года назад
The eris has been sharpened a lot so its very thick bte, which makes the bevel larger, and it makes this knife cut better, i dont lay all edges back usually just the ones that benifit from it, I wouldnt fix a tip from the spine personally, I would do steel removal from the edge until its at a point that i can sharpen it

Great vid as usual. I got a kizer t1 the other day and Im having issues with it. The detent is weird on it. It doesn't suck the blade in smoothly like all my other knives. It's either out of the detent or in it. There is no in-between. It doesn't come out of the detent smoothly either. It's like it's stuck and has to really break free. On all my other knives there is resistance and then you can feel it smoothly coming out of the detent. This one feels like it's stuck then roughly breaks out of it. I'm not sure what to do to fix it. I don't want to send it back but I am not happy with the action. You also have to have the pivot tightened all the way super tight or there is jiggle in the blade anytime it's not locked in the open position. Any tips on what I could do?

Yes and no, so if your wanting to put a v grind edge on a convex knife then yes, but if your wanting a convexed edge no it will not, because its a flat angle and a convex needs a rounded angle, but if the knife is convexed and you just want to put an edge on the knife, it will sharpen the knife it wont be a convexed edge though

I know lots of people use this system or similar ones but I don't understand how they can possibly work correctly to produce proper angles. Geometrically this is a triangle where you can adjust the height of the "opposite side" to pick the desired angle (15-30 degrees). The "hypotenuse" would be the sharpening rod. The "adjacent side" would be essentially the knife blade... But since knives vary in blade size (spine to cutting edge) the geometry changes from blade to blade making the adjustment scale inaccurate.

You mention the difference between stone grits. Any idea what workshop rating the are? For example, wicked edge are ansi rated stones, which is different from a typical Japanese whet stone rating. A 1500 grit ansi stone is, if I recall, somewhere similar to about a 4000 grit Japanese whet stone.
@NeevesKnives
@NeevesKnives 2 года назад
The rating on the work sharp are similar to American grit rating, as most diamond plates are, which are going to be more coarse than wet stone at similar grit, I do notice they are finer than my other diamond stones like dmt or ultra sharp. Tsprof or venev use an f rating which is different and are from a russia,, they are basically 3× finer so a 200 would be like a 600. But as far as the work sharp go they are similar to dmt or ultra sharp grit ratings. A Japanese or other wet stones are very different even the scratch pattern than diamond

Have less than 40 dollars in the whole system. Also strop the burrs off with saddle leather and green compound. And time.
