I just spent 20 minutes watching 2 men trim cows feet. No blood, no puss, no major issues, minimal commentary. Just relaxing, good music and the sound of a grinder. Great stuff here boys! Thanks! Oh! And lots of happy cows!
These little bits of information you give, such as about the cows housing in relation to backing up, are so useful. Its little things like this that people often just dont think about, yet can make a big difference to the health and longevity of the cow. Thank you for putting these little bits in.
Spookylady I noticed that too! I grew up on a farm and the barn’s foundation was stone. It was great to have our sows farrow in the “basement,” of the barn. We kept them warm and cozy there. The barn was kind of a split level with a big earthen ramp that went up into the hay mow. The, “basement,” part had sliding doors that opened up on a cement lot and the hogs could walk inside. Hard to explain. I almost cried when I saw it a few years ago and only the foundation remained. Several years of neglect left it in ruins.
Simply breathtaking. Some of his drone footage is unreal. Super great channel for MANY reasons. He also has a channel for more of his drone footage!!! ❤him
I was just turning in for the night when I spotted you in my in box, even though I knew the video would be here in the morning I had to watch it now! Who cares if its already 03:30am? You have probably heard this thousands of times before but you are extremely fasinating to watch and have a great taste in music. 👍
Must be nice to have someone to chum around with while at work. I used to feed and clean out over 30 horse stalls first thing in the morning by myself. The radio was always playing through the barn. Would have been nice to have another body to joke around with and ride with after the work was done though. ;-)
I really like this video because you’re explaining a lot of things that you do and it’s not just with your tool it’s the way the cows move and where they eat and you showing different things about where they stand the narrow passageways in the long ones. I like this video a lot a lot more than the ones that are you know I’m just trimming
7:43pm watching your video while I am eating dinner. From 2:15 to 6:30pm I was on the school bus taking kids home! So glad it's Friday I am tired and your hoof trimming relaxes me..👍🏼💗🐄 Thank you 🕊Jeanne on the Oregon Coast 🌧🌨🌬☔🌊
Hey, the wife drives a bus too! You both are braver souls than I. No way I could do what you do with 30-70 antsy kids. And all of them behind you! No way. If no one's said it before... Thank you for doing what you do. Kids are precious. And no way in hell would I drive the little scamps anywhere, I'm sure I'd lose my mind first... LoL
@@fairwitness7473 I had one of the kids I know announce on the bus that "Im nice". I said "Dont tell everyone that!!!" He said "She is!" Blew my cover Darn!! Some days are better than others but I love my job. 🤦🏼♀️Yes I do!
I never thought of the angle of the feed gate. Next time I remodel the barn (seems like a yearly basis) I'll have to keep that in mind. Although it may take a few tries to incorporate it! Thank you for the insight!!!!!!!
Craug has a very strong accent! I couldn't understand some of the things he said. It's just like me in the states. We have a "Southern Accent" in the southeast but mine is a lot stronger than some have, lol.
As you promised, a great video! It was nice we got to see a lot of hoof trimming. I really like how you discussed with Craig how hoof problems could occur. I understood everything! Not only do you give an awesome demonstration with the grinder, you give the hoof trimming industry an awesome example why safety glasses are so important. Hoof trimmings, sawdust, dried poo, flying flecks of "god knows what" flying up into your face and hair. And how about that 🐄 cow's contribution. Eww!
I have been binge watching your videos since I found them, and this is honestly my favorite so far. It gives such a feel of your everyday work, when things are going well and everyone is comfortable. I knew you were both "in the zone" because I was there with you. And walking about the farm with Craig, talking about what causes the different issues you see, was the perfect way to end it. Thank you for this one.
I’m just a small town guy from a town in upstate New York USA but I randomly found your channel one night not to long ago it makes me smile 😃 you just seem to be a great chill guy who loves what he does so cheers 🥂 my guy even though we’ll never meet .hope this makes your day🤙
Fair Witness I’m in Iowa and took a snow day from work. Tried to go in...I live in the country and turned around part way there when I hit white out! Got my all wheel drive SUV stuck in a driveway. Finally made it home, called into work and was informed management wasn’t going to give us a pass and make us take it as an occurrence. Well they can kiss my arse! Manager is from Egypt and I don’t think he’s had to drive in many blizzards!! 😠. Anyway, stay warm and safe!
Craig is remembering and picking it up again quickly. Always a good thing when you have a willing student, it makes the job tons easier!! Best Wishes, a friend who's learning about cows and their feet, from Ontario, Canada, Jenn.
Maybe he needs to watch a video of an extraction of a sliver out of the eye. I watched one with a metal fragment that was removed with a magnet. It was gruesome but better than having to fish out a sliver of hoof shrapnel.
I tried to explain to him how bad it can be... he said':''lol they were old videos, I wear them now...'' and nope he still does not wear them, or he leaves them up on top of his head.... Sadly it looks like he will learn to wear them the hard way and then regret...
Thank you for listing the music (I asked previously).. will try to find it. You do awesome work as usual. Please don't stop sharing your day with us, I look forward to this.
I’ve grew up & worked on cow/calf operations, and then almost 20 years later began working at a dairy farm and EVERYTHING was sooo eye-opening different, I was literally stunned by the differences and the learning curve had a multitude of surprises & reasoning differences, it was like comparing apples to orange = fruits, but comparing daily dairy farming to ranching on a cow/calf beef operation was not even close when comparing their different needs & diets, hoof care demands, the higher rate of milk fever in Dairy cows, the environment that dairy cattle must endure with concrete floors, little to no pastures for the cows to feed on or even to just sun themselves on a summer day as they chew their cud, while at a cow/calf operation you would have to fight cows to even try to get them into the barns verses some dairy cows are pretty content to stay in the barns 24-7. I do understand that dairy cows are given a precise high-end diet to increase their milk production to the max amount, and of course concrete floors are a necessity to clean-up the barns while also assisting the cows overall health by being in a cleaner environment. Good to also hear that dairy farmers should now know (proof) that increasing the concrete stall sizes, will also save them money in the long run while also increasing the milk production (through better health), especially with the additional rubber mats and sawdust on the new larger stalls will also help stop the cows from developing mastitis and help them from injuring their teats when they attempt to stand up, will be easier on these new, cushioned, cleaner & less slippery stalls! With the widened ally-ways to help assist the cows by not stress-loading their hooves into unnatural movement should also help with reducing the inflammation & costly hoof care treatments by implementing the construction of changing the barn to be more ERGONOMIC in the stall & alleyway to assist with preventive hoof maintenance & care by making the ergonomic & relative small changes in the barn. I would absolutely love to be able to see a older barn with at least a one year clear history with monthly milk production average per cow (or all cows milk production monthly history) costs for hoof care, antibiotic usage, #of times cows are pulled due to feet infection/antibiotics used, how long & how much $💰$ to treat a foot problem, # of cows sold due to being unsound/chronic feet. Then do a transition where these ergonomic changes are brought into the barn to be able to see the differences on milk production, cost of hoof care maintenance versus hoof treatment, and compared to all of the other Category’s above that I mentioned. It would certainly be interesting to see the numbers in black an white 💰
Love your channel don't know how I stumpled on one of your videos but I am really addicted. But you said on one of your videos that your dad had passed away when you were very young I am really sorry for your loss but I can tell you that your father is really proud of you for what you are doing because you are making a difference to cows. Keep up the great work.
Yes this is a much older video but I just can’t get over how handsome Craigie Boy was 4 years ago!!!!! I mean he still is but he just looks so young in this video!!!🫶🏻 Mr GP you better stop working that boy so hard!!!!🤣🥰
Great music, beautiful scenes at the end, but most of all, it’s fabulous watching you train and teach. Asking what he finds most difficult and why; then you really listen without judgment! Then showing him how the girls environment can have the potential for injuries. Your a wonderful mentor and he a sponge! Again, good work 👍
All the classic hoof GP songs like "flaming on a singles string" and "keep your nose on the floor" pre-orders soon for "Graham sings his Hoof GP songs acapella"!
It seems like the editing you do, however it becomes apparent of the days you simply and quietly crank out cow after cow in what must seem like a never ending procession... I find your work very satisfying ... thank you for sharing your life!! May God bless you and and your dear family!!
I grew up on a ranch in Kansas, USA. Free range cattle and horses don’t need hoof trimming very often. LOVE your channel! I miss working with cattle and your channel brings fond memories!
It was great to see how carefully Craig was trimming. He had the grinder going a good few seconds in the same spot and it hadn't changed color! He's gonna do well cuz he's got a GREAT teacher! Have a great day!
lianne heffernan his other channel is GPs Everything and his brother’s channel is James Parker Sculpture. Fascinating videos on both! Plus more handsome Scotsman! ;)
Thank you for making these videos I received a concussion in the middle of taking care of pigs on my friends farm and watching your videos helps me relax and helps me concentrate on one thing other than my head hurting
Hello Hoof GP, from a small farm in central Utah, USA...I found you several months ago and thoroughly enjoy your show and your personality...I watch your show on my TV and do not get to comment very often but will try and like more of your programs.. Thank you for your love for these wonderful beasts, I have had many of them and am down to 3 at the moment..I am having problems with a huge 8 yr old Hereford's front feet.. I have a squeeze chute but she won't fit and I need to trim her front hooves.. Lots of snow here and very cold and I am getting old!! LOL I hope she makes it til spring..
We must have really hard ground here in Australia, we have never had to trim our cattles feet. But ours are beef cattle. I think thats why im so facinated by this.
When I was very young I worked on a dairy farm I don't ever remember looking at their feet, nor did I ever see them trim their feet like you do, but it is truly interesting seeing the problems you present from these cows, I truly enjoy watching your videos!
Love your channel. I believe it’s the person who make a channel good or bad! You seem like a cool cat! If your ever in the states and in Missouri you always have a place to stay. I have 17 acres to enjoy. Also I think a cool song you could use is Somewhere Over The Rainbow performed by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole better known as IZ!
Love hearing you "teach" us about the idiosyncrasies in keeping the cows healthy and why their hooves grow this way or that. It's all really very interesting!!
My harmonies are broken, It's like I lost my wings My heart is only playin On a single string... I gambled every token I thought that we could win But still my heart is playin, on a single string.....hmmm hmmm hmmmm🎶🎵🎵🎶
Today received news my Uncle Michael passed. He’s in UK After watching your vlog, I felt a bit better. I felt closer I guess I’m weird 😢 Thank you Graeme🙏🏻🌻🤗👍🏻💕💕 You’re about three thousand nine hundred miles closer to UK than I am.
Ahhh! You led with my favorite music! AndI can sometimes pick up that what looks dark on RU-vid can be pigment! Progress for a city girl. But I am going to mirror: eye protection for both of you. Time to correct that problem and take care of Craig.
I'll type it out to see if I'm right. You use the blade to trim while also looking for cracks, white line problems or ulcers. You trim the toes if they're going out of shape, making sure the hoof walls are aligned properly. Trim Jew(?) Claws if necessary. Make a concave trim on the inside of the hoof to relieve pressure for the petal (spells probably off) bone. And that's basically a routine, healthy trim?
@@conor7187 also about 75mm from the crown (or the hair) any closer and you'll make her lame. Also get rid of any cracks so they don't continue to split up the claw and cause an abscess. Remove any foreign objects and make sure the integrity of the claw remains intact. And investigate any soft spots. That's the best I've got.
All I gotta say is amazing I absolutely love your videos I live in a big city in the USA and never been around farm animals but there is something about what you do that just captivates me in every way please keep posting I always look forward to your video and I can't wait for the update on 812 i really belive your gonna give her a new life big love form the USA
Okay, I say this with love and concern. There is a saying...the only time you ride a bike without a helmut is when you forget to put your head on. So why aren't you wearing your safety glasses? Did you forget to put your eyes on? If the safety glasses are uncomfortable, get measured at an optical shop and order ones that fit. There are also lightweight adjustable face shields you can use. You have already been injured and out of work before. But what happens if you lose an eye? Protect your family by protecting your eyes! End rant.
He's a nice guy too. He just trims differently. Not bad, just differently. I've been watching him. He's doing a great job of explaining what he's doing and why he's doing it. His camera work is getting a lot better too.
You really are great at what you do! Your talent really shows when you see the knife in someone else's hands! You truly make it look easy which we all know it isn't! Never doubt just how amazingly talented you are! Big fan from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you so much for what you do.. Just love seeing how much you care for all the cows and your dogs.. Also seeing how much you love your family is so awesome.. Thank you for giving all the information. I love learning new things all the time.. Can't wait for the next video..
Great video. The back half especially informative. I dont have plans to trim feet anytime soon, but I love learning as craig does. So keep asking questions and keep sharing G! Thanks guys!
Your newer videos with that nice new black crush is awesome....all your content is amazing but that crush seems so much more high tech, it like hooks the leg then twists into position and the hydraulics pull the leg up into where you start your job....it's awesome to see you grow, your a savior for these animals
I am so mesmerized by the hoof grinder.....it’s relaxing to see the hoof look so clean, smooth and even. It’s a good thing that I don’t do it: I’d get lost in the grind and look up only when the hoof is all gone! “ Umm, Hey, Hoof GP, so I’ve made a mistake. Yep. It’s bad....”😂😂😂😂😂😂
