As a kid watching the Cats loose those Grand Finals in the 90s was heart breaking especially the 94 and 95 Grand Finals where the team was smashed in the first half and never got into the game after Half Time onwards. Always think that 1989 was the best Grand Final and 1992 was one where the Cats had their chances during the 2nd Quarter but the Eagles played fantastic in the 3rd Quarter and deserved that flag even if it was Geelong's best chance to win a Premiership during that time. Gary Ablett Senior, Ken Hinckley, Mark Bairstow, Barry Stoneham, Gary Hocking, Billy Brownless, Paul Couch, Leigh Colbert, Peter Riccardi, Tim McGrough (can't spell half of their names due to spellcheck issues) And special mention to coach Malcom Blight and Gary Ayers for at least keeping the Cats competitive even if they weren't winning premierships and a few disappointing seasons where they missed the finals due to loosing close games that they should have won. 1993 was perhaps the best season but Geelong only missed out on the finals due to close percentage and if they only could have won one of those close matches they lost earlier in the year they could have challenged both Essendon and Carlton during that finals campaign.
We ended the colliwobbles in 1990, we ended the lions 57 years drought in 2001, we haven't won a grand final since the 21 win season in 2000. We are essington.
VFL (1925 to 1986) 12 teams therefore a Premiership drought of 15 to 25 years was considered a long time. AFL (2012 to present) 18 teams therefore a Premiership drought of 25 to 30 years is considered a long time.
