A re-recording in much sharper 480p60fps 4:3 as opposed to 480i30fps in stretched 16:9. The gameplay is also much better.. I was actually ashamed how much I crashed into walls on my previous recording when I looked back at it last week. This game is a lot like F-Zero GX in the sense that each new level leaves you a little overwhelmed and seems impossible at first, but through lots of retries and perfecting your gameplay you get better and better to the point where you beat the stage and move on to the next one. Nonetheless F-Zero is much more difficult as it had me stuck on some stages for over six hours whereas the longest I was stuck on a stage here was just two hours. It's actually a fun game and with the tracks being so short, the graphics being fun, the music being unique in each stage and the gameplay being so engaging, I didn't have much of a problem restarting a single stage many many times. THE ONE thing that bothered me immensely was finding out that being good at the game doesn't seem to necessarily increase your odds of winning. What do I mean by that? Well, I was stuck on Dark Desert for over two hours and I ended up watching my old footage to see how I did it back then. What I saw was some really poor performance and me crashing in walls constantly. I ended up winning the race during my old footage with a total time of 2'58"78 and the second place was 3'00"89. During the new footage, I ended up winning with a total time of 2'38"88..but this time the second place was 2'41"35! In videogame terminology you call this rubberbanding. It's when the CPU's speed is adjusted to your own to keep the race interesting. It's not a bad thing when used properly, but I feel like this game becomes unnecessarily difficult because of it. It's really frustrating doing a race track much more flawlessly and with much better time over your previous recording only to still fail for the track for over two hours. It seems that the only way to win some of these matches is to use a shortcut at the end of the track and hope your opponent doesn't, because the rest of the track he'll be behind you within less of a seconds distance no matter how well you play.
Now this is the real Sonic racing game growing up as a kid. I remember playing this on the PS2 with my friend during before school starts, and we have a good time with it. Those were the good ol days!.
Listen. I have never ever played this game as a kid, but I heard it’s a really fun and energetic game for a lot of entertaining kids, tied together with WWF Smackdown for the Sony Playstation. And we still have a lot of sports games afterwards that game has finished.
Man. I remember during the time when my friends back in elementary school had this game. I used to compare it with JSRF and Ollie King. Because some Gears have skates and hoverboard are giving me vibes those 2 games. I remember singing Let it go from Ollie King and it made sense during the race. Great times for JSRF, Ollie King and Sonic riders.
@@George-zk4nv why lol on just a basic gaming PC with GPU set to threaded optimization OFF (and obviously things like "prefer max performance" for power setting), can play this on Dolphin emulator and it'll work just as good. Plus I could somehow see it being way less "smooth" on Switch, which means I'd prefer the original on Gamecube/Dolphin over "better" graphics
Ah, the early 2000s on GameCube. Lots of long nights playing this with my friend. Tons of great games at that time, Star Fox Adventures, Star Fox Assault, Baulder's Gate, Star Wars Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Jedi Outcast 2, etc.
Great job! This game kicked my ass as a kid, tho considering the controls I'm not ashamed I couldn't do control stick spinning with arrow keys on the keyboard.
10:48 Having a masters degree in aerospace engineering, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the Kutta-Joukowski Theorem is not at all about what Tails said, which is little more than video game technobabble. The Kutta-Joukowski Theorem is used to help describe airflow around an airfoil in a potential flow model. In a nutshell, it states that the velocity of the fluid around the airfoil must point in a direction parallel to the slop of the camberline at the airfoil's trailing edge. This effectively fixes a stagnation point in the fluid at the trailing edge and prevents a phenomena known as flow separation from occurring. This is a very watered-down explanation of what the theorem is and how it's used. There is a ton of literature on this and the complex analysis in which it is often used. But the main point I'm trying to make here is that Tails is talking out of his tails. Nevertheless, this was still one of my favorite video games of all time. Awesome racing mechanics for its time, and hands down better than any mario kart game ever.
I was legit playing this game 3 days ago with my cousin for the first time in almost a decade, reliving the thrill and nostalgia. I now just saw this video uploaded 3 days ago...you psychic or something?
Man, I remembered this game so long I remembered I keep on grinding playing this game to unlocked all those character and the maps games. I earned a lot of coins by playing this game 😅
Thanks for keeping it in the original aspect ratio 👍 I loved this game so much as a kid. I remember wanting it after watching an ad on tv and receiving it for Christmas. First Sonic game I completed the story mode for. I still have my original copy but I don’t have a PS2 at the moment.
My old sister snitched on me for playing GTA San Andreas.. they broke my game bc it was violent (ironic eh?) but they bought me this game. I was so mad but after a little while I ended up liking this game, too. 😂 I could never beat the race in the sky tho.
Thank you for doing longplays of games that are kinda lost to time, I have always wanted sonic games and my Unlcle was as a big influence on me growing up and were both big sonic fans so in a long winded way thank you.
This was the only racing game in this series I ever played and I dropped it so damn fast. Idk if I was just bad at games growing up but I could not for the life of me get past Tails' level. The *2nd level* of the game. Wanted to unlock Knuckles but all I got was frustration. Edit: I also remember getting stuck on how to pronounce "Prix" in "Grande Prix" and my old man thought I was swearing when I didnt actually know.
Ngl in this day and age, a lover like Amy would be awesome. Unlike other people, I would enjoy being lovey dovey with my S/O. It shows attention and care.
This would be the perfect sonic spin off arcade game, it has arcade styled UI, it feels very arcade like with its speed style and design, plus I’m sure a well flesh out sonic riders arcade game would be so successful
I haven’t played this game in about 14 years, now it’s 2024 and I’m currently playing it thanks to technology lol. I’m playing it on my Mac air and it runs perfectly, man this game was everything back then. Huge part of my childhood in 09-08 🥹
LongplayArchive i really liked how you did a re-recording of Sonic Riders, you should do two more Sonic games on your Gamecube collection. First you should do Sonic Gems Collection. Then you should do an HD re-recording of Shadow the Hedgehog. If you could do those two games i would be so happy. Also one more thing could you also do Neo Geo Battle Coliseum for the PS2?
I did Shadow yesterday! Will be up in a few days :) Sonic Gens maybe next month, if we don’t have any other Sonic games to upload. Thanks for the support. As for the suggestion.. I can only take GameCube suggestions if you have any (please post em on my community post on my channel)
@@longplayarchive Oh okay can't wait for Shadow again. Also are you really only doing Gamecube suggestions right now? If so then how about another HD re-recording: Nicktoons Battle for Volcano Island.
