In following the Constitutional procedure for presidential crimes, Congress neatly averted the question of whether an outside prosecution was viable. Trump was impeached twice. If present-day Republicans had half the guts, integrity and character of their predecessors of half a century ago, we wouldn’t be in this situation.

If sentenced he would have immediately filed an appeal with a request for a stay, and even if it failed he wouldn’t be in prison until after the election. Also, something I just thought of - if the sentencing hasn’t happened, then if I understand it correctly, the trial proceeding is still open and ongoing - which means the Judge’s remaining gag orders are still in effect. He can’t release names or identifying information about the jurors, and he can’t attack the Prosecutors, court staff, or their families. And also, the Judge can continue to assess Trump’s behavior until he’s sentenced, and it may affect HOW he’s sentenced. He could, for example, tack on more penalties for any further gag order violations, which constitute contempt of court.

He's also still committing crimes while out on bond.

The problem is that 75% of the people who are actually going to vote for trump are completely oblivious and uninformed and have no inkling of knowledge that Donald Trump was ever prosecuted. Ive asked a few people who they're voting for and they said trump. Once I tell them that trump has all these criminal cases, they look at me as if I just dropped bombshell news onto them, like they never knew trump was ever charged with anything. If 100% of the american's knew what trump actually did and what he's facing, he'd lose the majority of his base other than the deplorable human sacks of trash that genuinely want to see america turn into a fascist dictatorship. People just DO NOT pay attention to anything. They never look at the news, they never check up on how he did as president, and they never check in to see his scandals. We all want justice for the crimes he committed. But the point of sentencing is to enact a punishment. Sentencing him before the election will benefit him more than it hurt him. If he is handed down a prison sentence before Nov 7th it will pull all the news coverage away from Harris and the momentum she has right now. There's also a chance it will garner him more votes than he otherwise would have received. Conversely, him not being sentenced will push people into the ballot box to ensure he can't pardon himself or his minions. And what we need most in this election is as large of a victory as possible.

Him being sentenced before Nov 7th would play into his favor. There's a chance it could energize his base, garnering him more votes than he'd otherwise receive. It would also dominate the news cycle which would take away all the talk of Harris' momentum right now.
