Seven-time MAC award winner Natalie Douglas sings with her Musical Director Mark Hartman and Broadway All-Stars Band from her latest show, "Freedom Songs: Election Edition."
On October 22, 2012 Natalie returned to Birdland Jazz Club with the newest version of her hit show, "Freedom Songs."
This clip is of Natalie, Mark and the band performing "Look for the Union Label" by Paula Green & Malcolm Dodds and "If I Had a Hammer" by Pete Seeger & Lee Hays. Mark Hartman on piano & vocals, Saadi Zain on bass, Sean Harkness on guitar, Joe Choroszewski on drums, Brian Nash on keys & vocals, with Romelda Teron Benjamin on vocals.

I just discovered this video. Thank you so much, Natalie. My dad was an ILGWU member for all of his working life, as was I for many years. I would also like to thank all of the pioneering members of the union who made a living wage earned under humane conditions possible for thousands of garment workers.

This was wonderful, and an inspired pairing. Saturday Night Live's parody of "Look for the Union Label" on behalf of the Marijuana Growers Union of America now feels like more of an homage, given all that this country's working class has lost over the last 40+ years. Ms. Douglas, I think I caught you with a catch in your throat at the start of one of the I'd hammer/ring/sing phrases for "love between my brothers and my sisters," and I noticed that my throat caught just a stanza or two later at the same spot as I was singing along at the top of my voice. Thanks again.

Loved your rendition of the song. If I remember correctly the ILGWU commercial aired during some kind of TV special that got high viewership. That's probably why something that only aired 60 times seems so ubiquitous.

Was that "only 60 times" just the first commercial? 'cause they made many separate commercials with different union workers but in the same style and with the same song ending it...
