He has Stormcast legs but fatter, a Space Marine torso and pelvis but smooth, and weird chunky Sister of Silence arms. He’s like a homunculus of all GW’s fancy armour designs, but they removed all the fanciness

I feel like there is a very realistic chance, that some regressive twat saw the sculpted chestplate of the OG model. And decided that it was 'appropriate' for a 'modern audience'. They have already been feminising all the other soldier kits. You can't get a squad of guardsmen or cultists without at least one female model. And then the quality of the female sculpts is the opposite. They can sculpt incredible muscles on the repentia. But the sisters themselves are mildly bloated and fat..... This model is 100% made by someone who is incredibly soft.

@@realname4430 I'm going to bring up the current political climate of Britian. Half the country are 'progressives' (neo nazis). And this half are incredibly soft, incredibly 'feminine' and they HATE masculinity and any form of strength. Notice how all the male soldier kits have been 'diversified' now?? You can't get a squad of guard without there being a masculine looking female in it. They put a down syndrome face in one of whatever 'the empire' are now called in AoS.... They can sculpts incredible muscles on the Repentia. So we know they have the skills.

NuCoteaz is wearing typical Warhammer power armour completely scoured of all detail and finery, devoid of any gothic essence or fantastical whimsy. It’s like a dog shaved of all its hair, exposing the awkward, lumpy shape beneath. Especially awkward, considering he apparently grew all his *actual* hair back in the interim centuries.

That goes a bit too far. He looks more like made by an experienced modeler but one with not enough time to finish it. It follows the design principles of modern 40k, but it's just missing the tabard and all those dangling bitz. If you look at his right upper leg, it also seems too flat, so I really assume that there's something missing. With a bit of greenstuff and a courageous grab into the bitzbox it's fixable. It's very sad, that you have to work for him to look great, but it's not bad beyond repair as it would be the case if someone released their first modeling attempts.

He feels naked. He’s got his massive codpiece hanging about almost poking out at you. He looks like he lost most of his clothes in a tornado. It’s all flat, the armor has had all of its detail smoothed out, it looks boring.

This is pretty much the only model I have seen in the last 20 years, that got objectivly worse. Usually it was maybe not liking a style change etc. So rather subjective as a change. But he just got flat out worse.

They stripped all detail off his armour and somehow made his face *worse* than the old one. Even the bird looks worse somehow. I mean it looks like he’s wearing trousers too big for him too! The new model is so ugly it hurts to look at. All detail has been scrubbed away, as is the trend with most modern sculpts…

THE big thing in the lore about Coteaz was the hourglass. IIRC, he once faced some radical inqusitors, took out the hourglass and proved them heretical just as the sand had ran out. The old model also had it between the tabard and his right leg. It was small and subtle, and could probably measure 5-10 minutes. This is how you tell a story. The new version sadly hides it on the back (and it's huge, probably would measure an hour or more).

@@CoastalZugMek it would be a very good thing for gw to hire designers w/o past knowledge of WH or GW. if they keep iterating based on the same inspiration things won't progress and evolve, but become xerox'es of a xerox. there needs to be new influences while harkoning bach to clasic source material like john blanche stuf, but by people who didn't already grew up steeped in the stuff. it's a shame we get some bad models here and there, but imo, it has nothing to do with designers being unfamiliar with a certain gw tradition.

@@BSJDynasty I would disagree with that, 3rd and 4th edition saw the introduction of a much more grimdark atmosphere and redefining of the setting and until the gathering storm series it was mostly a sandbox with little unifying story to speak of (lore=/=story) then the whole horus heresy series which introduced and expanded on thoughtprovoking themes around the central tension of the seting, all the while the visual style 40k has used has kept evolving. Imo you are putting on the blinders of "I know everything already" if you can't see how much has changed and expanded over the years

All the hype of this release has fallen flat. One new model kit that is pretty terrible done, and the battleforce boxes are “let’s cram a load of junk in to drive costs up for no reason”. Every other battleforce box set looked good for a new player to jump in. I liked every box set even if I bought none of them. These boxes are just bad. I really really wish they had done more than one sculpt. Multipart generic inquisitor would have been so much hype. Maybe some other new agent units. This? This is a hard pass for me.

Conspiracy Theory: I don't think this model was originally sculpted to be Inquisitor Coteaz. Nothing on the model is carried over from the old one except the hammer (which would have been easy to add on) and the eagle which is on a different base. Even the Inquisitorial Rosette looks like it was stuck on the front. I genuinely think this was supposed to be a different model and they decided to make him Coteaz somewhere down the line.

The fur is only going over his left shoulder (and somehow grimderp decided to make purity seals stick to the fur???) The old model was sick, covered in detail like muscles carved into the armour, book on his hip and change and other blanch-like things that make it seem like he came out of an oldhammer art piece. You’re the biggest bootlicker ever to think the new one is any good. But you seem like a bot for GW

I think the culprit here is Kyria Draxus. Her pose is basically the classic Coteaz pose, winged creature on the arm and weapon at rest. It also looks like they're trying to unify the design language for Inquisitorial power armour. Draxus's armour was also pretty chonky with unadorned, curvy plate armour, so to make a male build of that they went super chonk. I really feel that the inquisition was always the pinnacle of grimdark, remember the female hereticus with the big hair and mace? We're just losing that now. This miniature feels like the world of warcraft version. I could probably make a better version out of a stormcast annihilator and green stuff.

Given some of the descriptions of inquisitors in power armour really make the suits seem ridiculously massive, I wonder if that's the direction they are trying to go. Try and differentiate them from marines by giving them a sense of a little man inside a walking tank, (rather than a massive man inside armour that's massive to fit him), but just flubbed it utterly in execution on this one. But its loosing the cloth from betwen the legs to give him the massive golden diaper and chonky-power thighs that I think really kills this.

Ok armour is out of scale all over the place from being too long, to too wide, to being too short depending on the area the fur is multiple times thicker than his armour and is above his head, the wax seals are sealed onto fur… the details just doesn’t exist and it is inferior in every way not only to Cortez but ever and I mean EVERY inquisitor model they have done in the last 30 years. Someone or allot of someone’s need to lose their job for this. I would be embarrassed to put out that product and the fact it has been signed off at multiple points show people have either no idea what they are doing or just don’t give an SH.

Yeah, needs some conversions. Talbard and book, maybe a few small chains over the non-cloak arm. The head... i dunno, might need a helmet. Convert down a grey knight helm? Only good thing being that bulky will help with is the firstborn helms should fit well. The Talbard is 100% needed though and luckily it is easy enough to do with greenstuff

the clean armour should help a lot with that. I would go with one of the bald eradicator heads, but knightly helms are cool.
