That "plastic" midwoofer frame is actually a type of polymer. Most higher quality drivers frames are either made of cast aluminum or polymer - unlike lower quality drivers that are made out out stamped steel. Both cast aluminum and expecially polymer plastics are strong enough for the application and are non-resonant and are actually superior because of those factors......

I have had the RS6 version for more then 10 years they sound very good , easy to drive. don't use them now as I dont have the space but I only paid £250 all those years ago and they still go for over 300+ on ebay these days still. I know the components inside dont look great but it's the sound that matters. Bit of a bargain imo.

You can also search for other brands second hand i once found quadral platin x speakers for just 40 euro's they are a bit old but they still sound good to me and i have the monitor audio bronze bx5 that i bought for 125 euros. Patience is key if you want good speakers for cheap

I have RX8. I have no issue with anything I see in this video. For the price they are great. Open up a pair of $10,000 speakers and you won’t see much different.

I thought the case was made of real wood. But it wasn't, it only got that wood aspect. But...speakers can take a long time to create, a lot of testing, research and all. Building a speaker is not as simple as it may seem. i used playing with building speaker cases. They don't sound very bad, in fact, out of pure luck and as measured by my year alone, some sounded really well. Anyway, creating a perfect speaker is difficult and requires a lot of knowledge. There were some charts which showed speaker sizes, impedance and all and the space required for them to sound well. I greu up in the 90's when all the speakers were, well, squared in shape. But now, producers have to create smaller boxes for their speakers and people want the same sound as it came out from a huge 90's speaker. Yeah, the challenge is great. There are speakers out there which are worth more than the car I am driving. I learned something about sound: 1% better is 50% more expensive.

Так откуда там звук,вы хоть раз видели,что-бы у разработчиков или фанатов звука дома или в ихних шоу-румах стояли колонки с метал.или пропилен диафрагмами?Фиг там,только бумага"православная".А всё остальное пипл схавает.А потом синтетика прёт со всех натур.инструментов!

Mine has just started smoking and stopped making sound while being driven by a Linn LK140 amplifier. I guess some component(s) have burnt/failed and the culprit is possibly in the input/cross over circuitry as no sound is coming out. The amp is rated at 95 watts into 8 Ohms (140 watts into 4 Ohms) with the speaker being rated 6Ohms and 150W, I don't get it! . Just using a simple setup (no biwiring). I can't see any protection from the teardown here but will check in the actual speaker. Any comments would be appreciated.

resistor or cap went dead, amplifier sent to much current to speakers,dc voltage must be checked at amp output with simple multimeter ,some manufactures using resetable fuses inside crossover

In my case this is a lie. Had to replace a tweeter. the wires was super short. Had to rein them in with pliers to connect to the point where I was concerned about integrity. I had 15mm to work with.

For 1k still use a very cheap tweeter with no cavity behind. I have very difficult to accept the sound from tweeter without cavity behind the membrane

Instead of blablating about a basket material just look at measurements and you'll see how those MA "evil plastic speakers" measure well (both in frequency response and distorsion) and perform way above other overrated companies with measurements looking more like rollercoasters. Designing a speaker is not just about the basket material of the drivers...

@Nikola Tesla For me, overrated companies are Klipsch or B&W for example. Klipsch because ... well, it has become a marketing brand selling speakers, and B&W because of their very particuliar sound and horrible measurements, as if you applied a crappy EQ preset. Now, speaking about the basket material : would you be able to say why plastic is not good for a driver basket, other than by comparing to other companies ? Would you be able to characterize the impact on the sound ? If the enclosure was plastic, it would be problematic. But we are speaking about a basket, which could be any material you want as long as it has the requiered properties. As I said, there are many factors way more important than the basket material.

This is actual a decent crossover. Haven't seen any iron core coils or el cheapo electrolyts. But yeah, the workmanship is rather meh and the drivers, especially the tweeter a LOL.

This is why I always find it funny when those so called audiophiles spunk a ton of money on speaker cables when the speakers themselves are connected to cheap wires inside. In fact the the sound passes through miles of cable of varying quality but these geeks think the last little bit from their amp to to thr speaker makes a difference.

External cables must be thicker, because these cables inside are for single drivers and they do not have to be very thick, and you run a cable to the loudspeaker, which is to give the signal for the entire loudspeaker, so it must be even thicker

B&W 603s3 ( and 601, 602s3) are built much better: better cabinet - mdf, not a pressed paper. better drivers : bass/mid , built quality and construction , alluminium, not plastic. and way better tweeter. Plastic baskets are made from special composite material. It is non-resonant and sturdy. Speaking about the cabinet, I asked a woodworker how he found the MDF quality of some Bronze BX2 speakers and he told me it's good quality MDF. B&W speakers have worse measurements too : B&W 606 : audio.com.pl/images/5/5/0/54550-monitory-bowers-and-wilkins606-audiocompl-lab1.jpg MA Silver 50 : audio.com.pl/images/6/7/8/54678-monitor-audio-silver50-audiocompl-lab1.jpg The Silver are more linear, the 606 have a ragged frequency response with many more irregularities. Speaker tuning is very important and B&W deliberately choses to have those irregularities ... which is a shame because as you say, the components are good too. But please don't say a speaker is crap because it has plastic baskets, it is not a bad thing to have plastic baskets !

1000.00 speaker retail cost less than 200.00 in materials. So each speaker is 100.00 and for that price this is a lot of speaker. So does it sound good? Want better parts got to spend more or do a DIY kit. GR Research claims that plastic driver frame is quieter. May be true but plastic does not last long especially Chinese plastic.
