For everyone having an issue with a noisy channel: bass, treble and volume potentiometers tend to get dirty. Just buy a spray for cleaning contacts featuring a tiny tube, apply a bit in the middle hole (see center of the screen at 3:21) of each pot, and turn left and right few times to ensure they get clean. Vote this comment up so that it gets visible!

Good to see what's inside. Looks well built with proper crossover in each cabinet. A real base port tube, and not just a hole in the top, like some speakers. Nicely insulated cables. I note that some models have " Docking Station Socket " Perhaps an older or newer version, with same model number? I notice from your pictures that a similar socket place is on the PCB 3:44 but not seen on back of casing. Perhaps has now been discontinued on later models.

i had to repair my t20 speakers today (after over 13 years of continous use). it was resonably doable. the internal connection from the right main speaker was oxidized, making the right speaker quieter than the left one. re-soldering the connection fixed it. a friend of mine had the same speakers. a local power outage and following power surge blew the speakers internal fuse, which had to be replaced. it worked again afterwards the speaker died shortly thereafter, but i guess the soldering simply was not up to the bass, so maybe they are still fixable by more carefull soldering. my father uses these speaker since at least 15 years ago. no issues. the new models have an annoying power saving function, which automaticaly turns off the speaker after 10 minutes of no signal (and the speaker needs a few seconds to restart).

@markscott9259 3 года назад
That why the manufacturer has this as a 3ohm speaker, but when hooked up to all those crazy crossovers...it is broken down to 6ohm. That's why they sound pretty good, but also choke when at high volume. I never could get that extra hump out of the T20s when I know it's there. Must have some kind of compressor stored inside the unit crossover 🤔

Is it easy to disconnect that awful blue power LED? I've got some T10s and I just put a filter over the green LED, but with the T20s it shines all round the volume control. I listen in a lower light room at night and I find the glow really annoying. It's enough to stop me buying them.

the bass tube has to stay free, otherwise the internal air pressure prevents proper membrane movement. no idea if insulating the rest would do much. putting the speakers on rubber mats helps a lot with vibration reduction though.

The quality is not so good. The volume/on-off knob sometimes doesn't work. They distort and have some resonance frequency in the lower mid range. When I see that construction I am not surprised, too much plastic, no filler material. Did you manage to get them together again? It looks like you more or less destroyed them ^^ The glue around the speaker for instance. And what about sticking that blue tape to the membrane?!

try pushing in the volume knob before turning. it seems the potentiometer contacs have some wiggle room. are the screws all properly fastened? loose screws let through air from the internal room, creating distorting vibrations.

These T20 have awful feature - to make them more green, Creative added for EU customers an auto switch-off. They go to sleep after 10 minutes or so. It wouldn't be a problem if they wouldn't need to restart few long seconds during which you hear nothing.... The most idiotic feature I have seen!!! After this introduction I would like to ask you guys - when opening did you spot a piece of hardware that could be responsible for this powering-off? Maybe if I could cut it out the speakers would work as expected!

@@Techscrews, I think it was introduced just couple years ago and only for EU market. Older models do not have it. Found in the GigaWorks T20 Series II manual: This speaker has an auto power management feature which complies with energy efficiency regulation required by certain regions (Europe).
@Ztartakus
@Ztartakus 3 года назад
support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=12873 Look how ridiculous it is, an official creative answer: In keeping with ErP (Energy-related Products) regulations, your Creative speaker will go into Standby mode if it doesn’t detect audio input (via aux-in/line-in) after a specific amount of time. This speaker uses a fixed threshold input level to enable auto power management feature. This means if you greatly lower the volume on your mp3 player or smart device, your speaker might interpret this as silence and go into Standby mode. This is by no means a product defect but a design intent in keeping with ErP regulations. To avoid this from happening, turn up the volume on your connected MP3 player or smart device as high as it can go without distortion setting in, and use the volume controls on your Creative speaker to determine how loud (or soft) you want your audio.
