I am a fairly new Splatoon player, having bought Splatoon 3 in near end of December last year, and I am very glad I have become a part of the community. It's such a fresh and timeless game, with fun style and cool mechanics.

I'm not an og splatoon 1 player but splatoon 1 was my first splatoon game and it does make me feel nostalgic. (I started playing s1 during the end of s2 life span)

I am very new to the franchise, I got Splatoon 3 this February, and it is so interesting to see Splatoon 1 players perspective on it :-). I really hope that the Splatoon servers come back so people will have a chance to play online again

Splatoon forever changed my life, I remember I saw a trailer for it once back in 2015. I said to myself “hmm that game looks kinda interesting..” so I starting watching videos on it and I liked it. Ever since then I’ve been immersed in this bright colorful world since day 1. Great to see it’s still holding up! I just hope they fix those severs in Splatoon 1 so I can go back home again. 😅

I got Splatoon on day one and I’ve been a dualie squelcher main since then and before I wasn’t really playing games like that and Splatoon change my game life for good

Was also in 5th grade when I made the "risky" decision to try this game I didn't know much about on day 1. One of the best decisions I have ever made. Definitely interesting seeing in how our experiences were very similar with the 1st game. Good video man

Splatoon is just such a good franchise. I feel I would be in a very negative space if it weren’t for this game.

When Splatoon 1 came out, I had already graduated but was still living with my parents before I got a place to call my own so it was one of the first games I played after no longer had to go to school. I was basically a filthy casual back then, only played turf war and single player because ranked scared me and I worried too much about ranks due to my negative experience with school and grades. Now, turning 29 in June and it’s my top 3 favourite Nintendo series ever alongside Kirby and Pokémon which is very strange to say now because before Splatoon I thought I would never enjoy a online shooter (I tried TF2 when my friends social pressured me to play two matches of it and it didn’t clicked with me) It honestly feels like a miracle that Splatoon became as big as it is now because the first game had so much against it like being on a console no one bought, awful ads that people still remember today, gyro aim before it was cool, Nintendo online being Nintendo online and so on. And yet, Splatoon got two sequels and the first game managed to have its online server outlive most online games that came after it.

I’m an og player, this game came out when I was turning 8 and I barely knew anything about this game i just went with the flow like omega 3, until i got introduced to Ranked Battles and that’s the first introduction of what Splatoon will be really like soon.. I’m turning 16 with Splatoon 3 and I am still so not looking forward to sizzle season lmfao also i did love saltspray rig, it was a literal playground for me 💀💀

I first got introduced to Splatoon when I got Splatoon 2 on day 1 and I knew nothing about the meta or anything and my favorite weapon was N-Zap 89, my favorite special was Tenta Missiles, and my favorite map was Moray Towers I never got past B in any ranked modes (in clam blitz I had C- with the lowest score), practically never touching ranked, and always played turf war And yet it was the most fun I’d ever had in Splatoon

I remember being obsessed with splatoon in 2015 When I went to school I would doodle (very bad) drawings of squids and inklings and when I got home all I would do is rant about how much I love it, I’m kinda on the same page as you, I didn’t care if the maps were “not good” I loved all of them. If the kits were bad, I just dealt with it.

Hey great video man!!! Yeah it’s crazy Splatoon is 8 years old today and I can’t wait to see what the series has to offer in the future. It’s really strange how I got into Splatoon. I was 9 years old, when the first Splatoon e3 trailer came out. I remember saying the game was “weird and dumb” I was very strange back then lmao. Then when 2015 rolled around, and Splatoon released, I saw the RU-vidr ZackScott play it, and I liked Splatoon for how it functioned and it’s uniqueness. Then a long 4 years later in 2019, I discovered the RU-vidr Failboat and he was playing Splatoon 2 live with some friends, and I was addicted to watching Failboat and the friends that would join him on stream play Splatoon. Then April of 2020 rolls around and that’s when the Splatoon 2: 2020 demo releases, when they announced the rerun of the Mayo vs. Ketchup Splatfest. That’s when I decided to try and played Splatoon for the first time. I got a switch for my birthday in March 2020, so that’s why I never got to play Splatoon, as well as never having a Wii U despite wanting one back in the day. And even then, after the 1 week demo ended, I didn’t buy Splatoon 2 until July 18th, 2020 (I still remember the exact date haha) because I didn’t have enough money. And since then, Ive loved this series to death, I’ve met so many amazing people, and made so many memories that I will cherish forever just because of this game. I honestly don’t know what I would be doing right now if I never discovered Splatoon. But I’m very gratetful for what has been given to me and all the memories I’ve made with this series. I still vividly remember the ad that sold me on this game, I was 8 yrs old and watching tv, I saw the ad and for some reason the inkstrike was the main hook that made me say “I want it now”. The Wii U was my first tv console and splatoon was my first game, ironically the tri strike in splatoon 3 made me want to get splatoon 3 lmao. Still been happily playing this game years later

I'm an OG player too, I got the game back in June 2015 (roughly 2 week after it came out) I bought with my early b-day money (I turned 14 in July 2015, so I'm actually the same age as all the inklings in one). When I first got the game, me and friends would always take turns playing it and we always had a blast, then more of my friends got Wii U's and their own copies of the game and we'd play online together. I was also there for Splatoon 2's announcement, played the Global Testfire and Splatfest World Premiere, and got the game at launch on (7/21/2017). I played the hell out of that game, poured over 700+ hours into it and played every single Splatfest (didn't play all the splatfests in the original game, so I made sure to do it in the sequel). I also defeated Inner Agent 3, hardest boss fight ever! Then I was there when the third game got announced in the February 2021 Direct and I was so happy and hyped when it was announced, nut it sucked that I had to wait over a year and a half for it's release. Much like Splatoon 2, I was always there for 3, I played the Splatfest World Premiere and got the game at launch (9/9/2022). So far I have played all the splatfests and big runs, and I have played majority of the challenges. I know Splatoon 3 doesn't have the greatest maps and weapons but I still try and have fun with the game, they so so much right with the game and added all these quality of life improvements that I just don't let little things like maps and weapons ruin the game for me, cause at the end of the day, it's still Splatoon. Definitely one of my favorite Nintendo franchises that I grew up with and definitely look back at fondly (and still play today), and I'm excited to see how Splatoon will be in the future.

I got this game day one (29.5.15) when I was 9. Fond memories of me, The Krak-On Roller, Splatfests, and replaying the single player levels over a million times 😂😭 I even got the special edition that came with a shirt!

Splatoon 1 is one of my favourite childhood games. I have way too many fond memories with it and it was really the only Nintendo game I figured out how to play outside of Mario, so it holds a special place in my heart. I was 8 years old when this game came out. I’m 16 now. Time has passed and I’m about to graduate highschool. Things are changing in my life yet I will always have these memories.

Man looking back on how I played is weird considering all I remember is sitting on either the shop or the mode select debating whether to play or not then when i felt like it playing only turf war then just not playing one day and not hitting the button to play again as the wii u came and went for me the switch came out but i had an xbox by that point and didnt feel like the price was worth something that id play a few games on 2 came and went for me so I missed out on the worst and best points when a year or two ago i caved and bought a switch bought 2 to see what I missed with a friend or two and oh boy did I regret those turf war matches because coincidentally i played with a missle spamer but back on track i hope to not miss out completely on 3 and to hopefully get better at ranked as i decided to branch out which scared 8 or 9 year old me didnt want to do and also stare at my inkling standing around deciding on if i want to play today or not to the clasic lobby theme

You know the game was significant in your childhood if you end up almost crying after hearing "Splattack!" again in splatoon 3 for the first time in years, the weird thing is that I was just a dumb little 5 year old when I first played splatoon 1, so I don't even remember much from the game other than beating octavio for the first time, and that was my only memory of splatoon 1 ever, yet it somehow gets me emotional whenever something nostalgic is brought up.

I unfortunately was never able to get Splatoon 1 as I never had a Wii U, but I had heard the franchise was fun so when Splatoon 2 was announced I said "sure, I'll try it out," and I'm so glad I did. I met my now best friend through the franchise and have made several fun memories with it.

It's always nice to look back at splatoon without competitive eyes and appreciate everything that has happened about it. Splatoon is amazing and cant wait for what more 3 has to offer in the future Also they should bring moray towers back >:)

I wished I had played more splatoon 1. I played it around 2017 (when splatoon 2 existed but I didn’t know it did) and played for about a month until I found out splatoon 2 existed. The franchise is amazing and has changed so much throughout the years

When this game was shown off at E3 of 2014, I wasnt intrested at first but when I played the test fire, I was hooked and got the game day one and just played it for hours and hours, im so glad I ended up enjoying the series, yes im an OG player as well

I remember seeing an ad on tv for the game and my brother asking my mother to buy the game. We didn't get it until a bit later, but the game was still fairly new and I don't remember everything. I used to play Dojo Battles with my little sister, but the Wii U Pro Controllers were hard to use because it didn't have motion control. (I rather play with motion control.) I also raged a lot in Ranked and I was definitely addicted to this game as a kid. I always preferred the first Splatoon because during the times I used to play the game, I was a lot closer with my family and I could communicate with friends on Miiverse. I prefer it because I was happy when I was younger and Splatoon was part of that. (also the maps in Splatoon 1 were definitely better in my opinion)

I feel like being so involved in competitive I kinda forget how fun it is to have a casual mindset. I remember when I used to mainly play weapons that I thought look cool without any regard for there kit back then.

I got the first splatoon when i was 7, i had no clue how it worked, just excited to play. Im 15 now, and everything in splatoon is so competitive.. I miss when people would just have random gear abilities than stacks. It made the game more fun when there wasnt overpowered weapons. Everything about splatoon 1 was good because most of us were kids.

I loved the Wii U for it co-op play. Having two seperate screens instead of dual screen was way easier for me to follow. I was really bummed that the switch scrapped that.

This game really does hold a special place in my heart and im glad it does for other wii u owners too. Pretendo network keeps this game alive a little bit while the official servers are still down, but its hard as hell to get a lobby going, but this game is so WORTH waiting 30 minutes just to get one turf war match

I bought Splatoon 1 two months ago and finished it, bought Splatoon 2, 2 week ago and finished it. And I hold no nostalgia to these games, but can arrest that 1 is superior. The gamepad especially is what I miss. In 2 people really forget to spray every nook and cranny, I miss easily jumping to mates, using rockets etc. And I kinda digged the music more. When u lost they put a really effed up song that made u feel like you really lost. 😆 I like it in 2 too but it's a bit mellow doesnt really hype me up. And DJ octavio was a breeze in 2 where I was fighting for my life in 1 😂. I also miss the funky, weird, alien-like, grunge beats. They had my booty shaking. In 2 there's a lot of inconsistent music. Some are very chaotic jazz, or generic beats. I love 2 I thoroughly enjoyed it. But 1 for now can't be topped. I will buy 3 soon hopefully it will give the best of both worlds!

I've been here since December 2015. When Museum D'Alfonsino and Mahi were young. And Piranha Pit and Ancho-V were brand new. I remember being on Miiverse and I kept getting my account banned because I kept saying I was 13 when I was 12. This even caused me to miss the last 6 splatfests in Splat 1. Good times. Summer 2022 last year before Splat 3 came out, I went back to this game for nostalgia, played every day and got to Level 50, (as opposed to the last time I touched the game where I was level 42), as well as bought every single piece of gear and weapon in the game. I'm so glad I did because I would've never gotten the chance again because the servers are down. Unfortunately, I never got to S+ but I'm S 49 which is still impressive.

I bought a switch when they first came out just to play nba 2k on the go. I also played COD at the time and was looking for a online shooting game for the switch. I came across splatoon 2 which was the only shooter on switch at the time and DOOM. I went and bought it used from game stop just in case I didn’t like I could return it. OMG I’ve been hooked every since.

To answer the title question, it's the ink. It was just way too satisfying and I want to see it in a new game T-T

btw you can play splatoon online but you need to have your wii u modded with the aroma custom environment look up pretendo setup if intrested

I’m sad splatoon 1 is still down and I heard it’s gonna be like this until September because of a “strike” I just want to play online I never got to play splatoon 1 online because I was always interested in the story mode ( I did this in splatoon 2 as well). Also congrats on 10 mill 🎉🎉

Being a Splatoon 1 player who in total in 2015-2016 had over 800 hours, I was a 3rd grader who had a broken wrist and my parents got me Splatoon 1 because they saw it used motion controls or a stick movement.

I discovered Splatoon 2 years ago. I realized I missed out on so much, (probably because I broke my WiiU at 4 but-) I missed out on Final Fest, Callie vs Marie, so much. Now I’m Level 40 on Splatoon 2, Level 20 and my Catalog level is 65(?), and I rage quit and get mad when I can’t play. I love Splatoon So much.

Splatoon 8 is my favorite game

My dumb 8 year old self absolutely loved this game as soon as my little brother got it for his birthday and I still do to this day. I am hoping to god that the servers come back online at some point because Splatoon 1 is the most fun game in the series in my opinion purely because of how much of a chaotic mess it is. I never actually beat the story mode until like 5 years after I got the game because I could never beat Octavio so it's nice to see that other people found that fight to be hard back all those years ago.

I'm also an og splatoon player but a very young one. It's very weird how I'm going from just some kid in first grade who plays splatoon to a kid going into highschool who plays splatoon competitively.

You grew up with this game and you were in 5th grade in 2015? I'm so old, I was already in 10th grade at that time. It's upsetting that I didn't start with the OG Splatoon (I started with Splatoon 2). I desperately wanted to play Splatoon as soon as it was announced, but I didn't have the means to buy a Wii U or the game. I actually bought a Wii U this year, and now own a copy of Splatoon 1. Too bad the servers are down.

This is my splatoon story was hyped as hell pre ordered it now I was in elementary school but knew a lot about Nintendo and was a big Wii U can so the day it came out I will never forget May 29th 2015 I came home from school and instead of getting the game I came home to a dog we got a family dog which we had planned on for a long time but my parents decided to surprise me with the dog none the less I did not get splatoon that day I got it the day after and still that was the best weekend of my life getting my dog who we still have and whom I love dearly and splatoon a game and franchise that still means a lot to me Hope you liked this comment you just gained a sub :)

I didn't have a wiiu so couldnt play which is sad since s1 looked fun from a casual standpoint with all the specials being cool, maps that all had uniqe styles, bright and colorful characters, and just looking fun. But now looking at it from a comp standpoint, yeah, it doesnt look so great, not that im saying that im a comp player but even then the balance of the game just didn't look all to great.

It's been 4 months since nintendo taken the online for undergoing maintenance cuz they where fixing and protecting us from the hackers that are causing the problems in splatoon 1 but where not gonna give up nintendo can do this 💪🏻✊🏻
