"We're going back to the roots" they said, as they removed almost all the iconic root mechanics from the first game.

Dead Rising 3 honestly was a good transition to being a modern Dead Rising game. But Dead Rising 4 went TOOOOOOO FARRRRR in making the game feel so different that it was just an inferior zombie horde game to everything else, might as well have played other musou style games.

I'd love either a dead rising 5 or a complete reboot of the franchise in the RE engine because they were the kind of games where you could just shut your brain off and go crazy for a while

The fact that the dead rising 4 devs made frank a goofy funny character,i knew that they knew nothing about dead rising. Frank wasn't like that. It was the way people played him that was goofy and funny

the best part is that a game from 2007 looks more fun than a sequel from 9 years later

I just hope with the Dead Rising Remaster that it reignites interest for the franchise and Capcom reboots it. Now with a blueprint of what not to do.

See honestly I really love far cry games as just a game I can turn of my brain for, explore a big map, attack a bunch of bases, do some crazy crap, and I feel like a time limit will make it feel just not like a far cry game.

I'm having a blast on DR4, I really love it! I remember playing this on my PS4 and I like how humorous and funny Frank was, and I love to explore the map and combine lots of weapons while killing lots of lots of Zombies! Probably I'm going to pick this once again on my PS5. I didn't even know lot of people hate this game, I'd seems can't find anything what to hate on this game, it's just pure fun and chaos killing zombies!

the elden rings comparison is funny because IF I CAN beat Dead Rising 1 without even having beaten one dark souls game. Yeah the game honestly is just more meant for players that actually just pay attention to the game they are playing. Dead Rising is not the hardest video game franchise to tackle, all it asks of the players is your attention to actually TRY and PLAN out your playthrough for the game if you're trying to do the content.

While DR4 isn't great, i personally think it's really fun, if you don't take it too seriously.

I love DR4 Frank's Prackage no timers fun to explore and farm xp and weapons in one go. I still play it during the holidays because it's a twisted Christmas game.

Unpopular opinion I didn't hate this game. It's no off the record, but it was alright

Dead Rising needs the modern gaming spotlight because the formula is underappreciated. The franchise at its peak reminds me of Persona when it comes to the fun of planning out your routes and how much time you're gonna take to do content in-game. It encourages casual playthroughs to grind up stats and location knowledge for the next more hardcore speedrun playthrough ideally.

If Dead Rising wants to be broadly popular AND make its fans happy. The most important part of the game is to make a REAL DEAD RISING GAME first with a fine tuned time limit system based around the average somewhat hardcore playthrough of a game. And thennnnn make a casual mode with easier time limits or even NO time limits. If you throw away the time limit system being important in Dead Rising, it is not a Dead Rising game.

For a company to have a fan favorite character like frank west they sure knew how to ruin everything about him after the first game

Deadrising Needs a Timer, it is easily the most iconic part of the game. The timer adds a sense of focus and management, planning, and replay value. You dont have time to solve every problem (unless you replay and manage time better!) The timer is the real killer and threat, not the zombies. Also combos are cool but after a while you become too powerful and it gets boring. Deadrising is known for its "ANYTHING IS A WEAPON" idea. If you were trapped use Tools, CD's, Etc. Combos to make guns or random explosives make it stupid and less relateable. Use the environment!!

I don't want to play a game indefinitely, i want to have a great experience (20-80 hrs) for $70, and move on to a different great experience. There are a lot of great games which I don't want to replay just to do one or two other things. Most people will just youtube the part they missed and will move on. There are so many great games out there, i don't want to get stuck grinding the same game for hundreds of hours. The great games you can replay years after playing them the first time. Such as bloodborne, tlou...

For me the best thing about Dead Rising 1 was killing zombies with whatever you could find, then they made it about mowing down zombies with wacky combo cards, it was okay but in my opinion it would have been better to just add many Environmental elements you can use to kill zombies like dropping shelves or pushing heavy objects down onto zombies, putting objects inside of things to cause reactions like silverware in a microwave or a toaster in any body of water around some zombies. With wepons make the break into sharper ones like spliting a golf club and getting a knife out of it is cool af. Imagine having a power move for a bunch of objectes like the kitchen knife had the stab grapple ect man us nerds can make anything better than these companies

Am i crazy for thinking that i had a blast with Dead Rising 4 ?? Played a bit of 3 as well and i fell in love with the goofy ways to kill zombies and that the game doesn't take itself seriously, never cared for the 'human' aspects. Just mindless fun, even hoping for another game like it. It's because i had a nostalgic need to get back to DR4 that i stumbled across this video haha! Never imagined it got recived so poorly! I'm actually heartbroken..

Love Frank so much that I play Off the Record more than the second; also it being, Off the Record is the real sequel to Dead Rising instead of DR4.

Being late to DR4 and i mean years late and on sale for $8 i enjoyed it alot. It wasn't perfect but i loved it and come back to it from time to time

Something to note: While those two guys were the wrong people to head development on this game, and made very wrong decisions. They were moved into the position after the original guy got fired for starting the project and going in an even worse direction only to steer it back to Frank once Capcom Japan found out. This meant development had a fraction of the budget it should've due to having to shitcan all the work done on the "Pre-Frank" Dr4 prototype that didn't even play like a Dead Rising game, and then to top it all: Most of the veteran staff left mid development. Dead Rising 4 was the perfect shitstorm.

The time limit in Dead Rising is just constraining enough that it makes the time go by relatively quickly, and it is just long enough to feel good and short enough to not be terrible to do a whole new playthrough, especially if you want to do different things.

Man you should see Matt McMuscles video on it, he explained a lot on why the game came out as it did.

It's crazy how much they tried to make it seem like that these two versions of Frank were the same character. Frank in DR 1 is a bit of an ass, sure, but he has a heart, and it's proven when he finds Brad in the maintenance tunnels with his gut mangled later in the game. Frank in DR4 is just a dick who not only doesn't have compassion for the zombies getting tortured (which btw, OG Frank would at the very least feel bad ), but he's a walking one-liner machine, something he ever rarely did during the main story of the first game. The devs had no idea what Frank's actual arc was going to be, so they just decided to tack on Vick as his protégé and have him sacrifice himself for two people we barely even knew (which tbf, OG Frank would've done the same if Jess, Isabella and Brad were in the same predicament ) It's such a tired thing to talk about but considering that Frank is in the top 3 best Capcom protagonists (up there with Leon freaking Kennedy and Claire Redfield) i get why people got rightfully pissed off at Capcom for essentially letting their best character get assassinated like this.

Honestly I think they should do a timeline option. I personally didn’t like the time limit, I don’t like time limits in games, but a lot of people do so why not just give us both options and make everyone happy?

Dead Rising 4 is amazing. I thought it was a great game when I played it. However I wished Bruce Campbell voiced Frank West.

I feel like all the changes now of days that game developers make on older games is just make it Hold Your Hand and take out everything that made it difficult quote on quote streamline it. When they remade Splinter Cell they wanted to quote on quote show Sam's age by adding a Kill 4 enemies at a time button, that lets you see through walls and now the game tells you every single play the enemy thinks you are....... classic

I remember the most annoying thing about the original game when it released is that if you didnt have an HD TV, you couldnt read shit. And there was no fix, except to buy an HD TV. And yes. not all of us were rich enough to have one back then.

Never played dead rising 4 but I just bought it a few days ago on a ps store sale and been watching videos about it I only played dead rising 3 beat it at release loved it I tried 1 didn’t like it wasn’t my cup of tea.

Dead rising 3 was a safe DR game due to change in hardware capabilities, Dead Rising 4 was an abomination made buy people who don't understand what dead rising is about. The clearest thing to point to is what you can do with weapons. In DR1-3 you can melee, throw, or do weapon specific moves like putting a bucket on a zombie's head or charging ahead with a parasol like it's a battering ram. In DR 4 you either shoot with your gun inventory item, melee with your melee inventory item, or throw with your throw inventory item. The massive downplay of what you can do with things is such a boneheaded move that ruined gameplay.

Rotolo wasn't brought back to voice Frank because there was a strike at the time and he wouldn't have been able to do it. Rotolo has said it himself

I REALLY hope this game is on the RE engine. So much modding potential.

Absolutely no one complained about majoras mask and said they needed to remove the time mechanics from that game even if they realized the game wasn’t for them. And yet removing that would be integral to majoras mask as a game mechanic. Otherwise, you just want want to play Ocarina of time. I could make the same argument about a lot of the design decisions of dead rising.

Dead rising 3 was fun, deadrising 2 was boring but an okay but less inspired sequel. Nothing recaptures or expands on what the first game does though, It was as mechanically rich and mysterious as dark souls or any fromsoft game. Dead rising 4 had a few neat Ideas, but it's surrounded by so much crap and boring nonsense. I hate dead rising 4 because every time I try to play it i start having a little fun and it locks me into a cutscene, or forces some shit camera mechanic.

Dead Rising 4 is kind of underrated. Yah when you cherry pick the bad jokes you can make anything seem shitty (you can ride me like you ride your bike in Days Gone for example, taken way way out of context when it was slandered). I feel like people just said DR4 was trash, and everyone went along with it. As someone who had only played 1 and 2, leading up to the Deluxe Remaster I went back and played DR3 and 4. 3 I loved, it may be my favorite in the series now in many ways. And DR4 was way way better than I was led to believe. It’s different, but not by a ton and not always in ways that are bad. There were some jokes that landed as well and I actually laughed at a few of them. Sure it’s not how we remember Frank, but it’s also not far fetched as Frank does have some snark in one, and by 4 he’s a jaded wannabe here pissed he never got his flowers for all the outbreaks he covered. Visually I think 4 still looks great. 3 as well except it’s trapped at 900p 30 fps where 4 is at least in 4K on XBox (would love a PS upgrade). If anyone is ever in need of something to play, go back and check these out. They don’t make games like these anymore and 4 was definitely overhated. It was one of those games I avoided, like Days Gone which I was also told was trash at launch, only to find out I actually really enjoyed it.

So im one of them dead rising late bloomers. I didn't play a single dead rising until 4. And i loved 4. It was a turn your brain off and goof around kinda thing. Almost everything about the game, like humor, mechanics, dialogue and story progression, the open world, Christmas theme, i loved it all. There was some frustrating parts but Im super easy to please. So i went back and played the originals and wow they are completely different. Id much rather perfer DR4 but i can agree DR3 is definitely the worst, its d0gship. DR1 and 2 made its own genre that is nearly hard to duplicate. While i do think luke is being slightly over critical, and over analyzing it, there is alot i 100% agree with, it would have been better if it didn't use the Dead Rising name, and no game will be perfect and "fun" is entirely subjective, so ill defend DR4 no matter what.

Psychos were a last minute addition to DR4. They weren't going to be part of the game at all. I think what the devs were going for was just a zombie slaughter field. They got rid of all the challenge and went with just "fun" slaughter thinking that's what would appeal to the most people. I can't remember what caused them to finally put Psychos into the game, but even after they did, they made them optional so they didn't interrupt the players slaughterfest. Taking away all the actual challenge made DR4 boring. It's the only DR game I've never been able to get through. I hated DR3, but I was still able to get to the end of it. Not DR4. I quit around half way through every time I try.

Dead rising 2 dead rising 2 off the record dead rising case west dead rising case zero dead rising 3 and dead rising 4 all were made by capcom vancouver so when people say that the dead rising 4 devs didnt know wtf they were doing those people dont know wtf they are talking about because they were same devs that made every single game besides the first one. So, I am a UX designer, and I thought I would add my two cents. Firstly, when conducting Usability Testing, you never ask users what they would do to fix something. They aren't UX Specialists. You get them to use the app, and then you watch to see where they get frustrated, the pain points (places where they get stuck) they encounter. You always ask open-ended questions, never ask questions like, "Would you remove the time limits?" Secondly, there is a concept called The Paradox of Specificty. Basically, what this means is that applications designed specifically for a smaller group of people that solve a specific problem often appeal to a large number of people. Basically, by catering to the die hards, you often appeal to everyone. By catering to everyone, you appeal to no one.
