Looking Back at the Pokemon X Post-Game 

Did you play the Looker quest back when these games first came out?? Or did you completely miss it like me, LOL? Also, I forgot to mention that twilight also takes place from 4-5am in the game! Pretty neat :D

One thing I loved being a kid was not looking everything up and just randomly stumbling upon stuff like zygarde, the sudden rush of joy you feel finding stuff was different.

Slight correction: Emma didn't break through the Essentia Suit; Xerosic intentionally shut it down, freeing her from its control, because it was causing too much strain on her mind and spirit. That's part of why he ends up turning himself in, and why I feel he's one of the most criminally underrated villains in all of Pokemon

I think the biggest problem with the XY post game is that minus only ONE town being unlocked for the regional Battle Mansion and the Friend Safari, is that the actual "story" is completely *optional.* There's no prompt or indication in the game that indicates you should go back to Lumiose City to meet Looker, so you could either activate it by accident, or go through MULTIPLE playthroughs not knowing it exists. I know because I'm one of those people. I'll never forget when I saw this section of the game in the Generations specials and I immediately went, "there was a post game story?!"

Gen 6 holds a special place in my heart. I can remember in the UK the retailer started selling it a day early, and it was really the first Pokemon game I got with my own money (every other game from gen 1-5 were mainly presents for xmas etc) ORAS being up there as one of my favourites too, can't wait to revisit Kalos and hopefully be more satisfied with how they handle it this time

x&y will always have a special place in my heart, there's just so much to do in kalos, let alone lumiose city. so even if plza is only in lumiose i doubt it'll be starved for content. (personally i think plza will be gamefreak's attempt at a ff7 remake-inspired game since ff7r was all within one giant city) anyway, i still remember doing the looker quests when this was new, and i didn't have a guidebook for x&y so i was pleasantly surprised to see looker return and in 3d! he was the best part of platinum for me and i was so happy he was in unova's postgame, so it really was like seeing an old friend. also emma is so sweet, such a great character with a fascinating arc through the looker plot. sad she's only in this game of the main series games, but at least she made a grand return in masters ex. here's hoping she's in plza!

Pokemon X was always my favorite game I loved the story, battles and especially the mega evolutions but I never realised that this was even in the post game of pokemon X and Y, thank you Arlie for showing it to me, it makes me want to rush to pull out my old nintendo 3ds and finally finish the nuzlocke I started almost a year afo on it just so I can finally fully expeirence the game I love. It'll be great to re-visit and fully explore the best city in all of pokemon again (in my opinion) (the lumiose music also slaps though and I have had it stuck in my head since I was a child). I loved the post-game! I was like 12 ish when the game came out and with the Looker/Emma stuff I pretended to be a detective and had an irl notebook and all😭I also pretended to be a part-timer at that hotel in Lumiose that allowed u to do tasks lmao

Pokémon X/Y was the first game I played. (I was a late bloomer for Pokémon) so it has a lot of nostalgia for me and I love it

i always tried to preach that x and y was absolutely worth its salt because there was so much that was overlooked or undervalued, but people never really gave it a chance to shine. it was my first gaming experience, ever, and it makes me happy that people are looking deeper into to the wonderful additions the 3DS brought to pokémon, despite the internet features being shut down. (even if it took a new kalos based game to bring that love back..) anyway, great video!

I learned a lot about the X and Y postgame! I never really played the postgame in Kalos when I was younger because that boutique destroyed any self confidence I had LMAO. All the postgame experience I had was getting Mega Stones for online battles and grinding BP at the Battle Maison lol. Side note: I’m also so curious if Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be a (launch?) title for the Switch 2 since we have seen zero gameplay of it thus far. I don't remember any Pokémon game in the past that didn’t have at least some gameplay in the announcement trailer and/or waited this long to show us what the game looks like. I'm probably completely wrong, but I was always curious if Game Freak was purposely waiting until after Nintendo made a formal announcement about the next console to show what the game looks like?

I really really hope that they add something like the Paris Catacombs, some enormous dungeon with lots of stuff to discover

I'd never watched any of your videos before this but I am a HUGE fan of this specific postgame, my friends know me for how much I love Looker, Emma, and Mimi (and Anabel in Sun & Moon's postgame, which I highly recommend!). I heard about this video and was a bit nervous about watching it at first for whatever reason. I think sometimes loving something so much makes you more critical of how other people view it. But I decided to go ahead and watch your video and I am SO glad I did!!! I agree with all of your points, this is such a lovely and underrated postgame and it's such a shame that Gamefreak made it something the player has to go out of their way to unlock... And truly, Xerosic should've just gotten a hobby!!!!! Anyways, I'm really glad that you made this video, I've seen more people talking about the XY postgame since it was uploaded and I really hope more and more people decide to go back and play it. It deserves so much more appreciation!!!!

The quickest way to actually raise your style in Lumiose is to use bargain power in one of the item boutiques. You get style for every purchase, so by mashing the purchase of 1 ball at a time, you can rack up a BUNCHA style quickly

X&Y is the last pokemon post-game that I enjoyed and spent hours completing it. I hope that we can reach the level of postgame that we got in Black and White 2 one day though!

I didn't know the post game story existed for a long time either but it ended up becoming one of my favourite postgames once I finally did play it!

As an XY fan I’m so glad to see someone talk about the post game it was so much fun when it played it back in the day

Pokemon Y was my first ever Pokemon game and I put max hours into that game just trying to buy all the clothes, items and also have all level 100 Pokemon and never even knew about the post game and somehow I only had 1 shiny that was a Meowstic that I found out was shiny after I beat the game I had it in my box just from trying to complete the dex so I didn’t pay attention to the colors as I was just focusing on missing Pokemon. Honestly I had a lot of fun playing it and as someone who couldn’t afford the omega ruby and Alpha Sapphire I continued playing it till the servers shutdown. I have a switch now and s and v gen 9 is my second generation of Pokemon games I’ve played and it just doesn’t have the same feeling as Y did plus the customization was just simply better

The thing I miss the most about this gen are the Triple Battles, the only kind of battles I was actually good at :(

The only postgame I do is shiny hunting, and X and Y are not great for that. Other than breeding and chain fishing the only shiny hunting method is Poke Radar, but there are very few routes in Kalos that have big enough grass patches to easily Radar hunt. It's almost as if adding Poke Radar to the games was an afterthought, unlike the Sinnoh games, in which nearly every route has a large grass patch suitable for Radar hunting.

I was very struck on my original playthrough by the emotion present in the story with Looker and Emma, it felt like an oddly soulful inclusion for something that wasn't part of the main story. maybe says more about the way they communicate what the player has access to, but I promise it's all worth a look. awesome video arlie

I wasn't a fan of battling towers or the battle masion in this game. But I loved the battle chateau for some reason. It didn't feel as limited or that i had to worry about evs/ ivs for my pokemon. Maybe I'll play x again even though i finished both the main and post game content as well as getting my fashion level 100%

The last time i picked up my game, i jumped into the friend safari just to remember what it is, and got a 2nd encounter shiny Bergmite!

The ORAS Delta Episodes were pretty cool aswell! Would recommend

This was the first Pokemon game where I spent a good portion in the post game (like hundreds of hours) because this was the game that got me into competitive battling. 3DS friends with good Friend Safari Pokemon were loved back then too, and the first time I started interacting with people online to get their codes to build my team.

Until we get more info, I’m staying convinced that Legends Z-A is set in the future. The style of the trailer felt so futuristic, and there’s nothing saying Legends games strictly have to take place in the past, we’ve only had the one so far. Could be an interesting formulaic shake up if we go to the future next!

I do remember playing Looker's Quest back in the days. So underatered and wholesome. I was so surprised when I found out you could get Emma's helmet in SV. Thinking back at it, I think it might have been a hint that the next game would be gen 6 since I'm pretty sure you also can get the Aqua and Magma helmets from ORAS in SV

When the 3ds was shutting down, i got all the other copies of pokemon games i didn't have. Looking forward to getting back to trying Pokemon X

X and Y were games I missed out on, I was so burnt out on pokemon when they came out from playing black and white 2 SO much. I didn't get back into Pokemon until Ultra sun and moon. I haven't even played with Megas xD

I'm so so excited for Legends ZA. X and Y are very important and nostalgic for me, and something I was always so excited about back in the day was the potential for Pokémon Z. It's so awesome that we're finally seeing a return to Kalos, I think it's genuinely one of my favourite Pokémon regions and I can't wait to see what it has in store for us. But please Pokémon company... Don't make the battle system bad like it was in Arceus I'm begging you

It's been so long since I played Y, i may whip out my old copy and see if I ever played this. Looker is familiar to me, but also I know he's a reoccurring character so it's hard to remember haha. But I will say I'm the same with pokemon post game, usually I'll do a little bit but never finish it. The only post game I've ever really completely engaged with was Legends Arceus but I think that's because I got to meet Arceus... every other pokemon post game just doesnt really match up to the hype of the elite 4 and whatever main story line you're following in the game. great video arlie!!!

Mystery Dungeon postgame is peak if you like Mystery Dungeon, they’re always very fleshed out with dungeons and extra plot.

One weird thing about the XY post game story is that its divided up into chapters that will not start (after the first one) until your leave the alley right outside the agency that you end up in after each completed chapter. Like why doesn't it just automatically go to the next chapter? I saw a theory which tried to explain this occurrence by claiming the post game story was meant to originally occur during the main story as Lumiose city is in the center Kalos and you return multiple times to the city during your main adventure. A new chapter would then unlock on each return to the city. This would also explain the passage of time that seems to pass between each chapter as your character would be traveling the region. This theory seems plausible but either way its a shame your not directed to this post game story once you become champion

I can't lie, I didn't come across my favorite Pokémon until Gen 6. Noivern will always be my favorite little guy. And I can't lie the only post game content I did were the daily post game battles you have with Calem/Serena in Kilioude City😅😅

Hot take: The post-game story of X/Y is more creative/engaging than the main story. Frankly it's more creative/engaging than a LOT of the mainline game's main stories. 100% agree that the Looker quest (I did get it the first time I did my playthrough of X, but I think I knew that it was present from online spoilers beforehand) does not get talked about enough. Maybe I'm completely off-base/missing some part of the discussion, but it feels like unless post-game includes a whole new region a la Gold/Silver/HeartGold/SoulSilver (not counting DLC stories), the post game doesn't get talked about, or if it does, it's only to complain that they should have given us a new region in the post game (I DO distinctly remember people complaining about Hoenn not being accessible from X/Y). If that's the case... Fandom, get over yourself. Yes, it was cool when we got basically a second region in those games, but it's pretty clear that they're not doing it again, so stop wishing for it, and enjoy what you have without needing to compare it to what you got that one time.

Currently working on the mahoosive quest of completing the national dex (without mythicals) and currently on the third playthrough of X&Y for the final Kanto bird and then gotta play Alpha Sapphire twice for all the starters😵‍💫

Is the friend safari still accessible? I’m currently doing a professor oak challenge and I’m almost at the league now.

Kalos felt like France. Galar did a mediocre job with England. Paldea is a disaster mostly because of Mesagoza and Area Zero. Maybe the new game based on Lumiose will be even more inspired by famous Paris locations and have even more of them or way more detailed. It's considered one of the prettiest cities in the world by most people, after all. It would be nice to have a bigger Lumiose Tower with the huge park around it and able to be seen from anywhere.

It's pretty much with these game where the post-games of the Pokemon games became pretty barebones, sometimes outright unfinished (Battle Frontier coming soon message in ORAS is just insulting now). Actually now that I think about it, wasn't there some train or something in X/Y that suggested there would be post-game/a third game and nothing came out of that? lol Unsure if HeartGold/SoulSilver falls under the few games you have done post-game in but definitely recommend that one if not, a lot of the other sprite games are more battle oriented so might not be your cup of tea, outside the usual legendary Pokemon catching. Guess DPP has a good mix of other content that isn't just battles with NPCs

I did do the Looker stuff after beating X back in the day and like you I said no to the Kanto birds roaming legendaries are not fun. I enjoyed and fully invested my time in the Lokker stuff really good.

Really wish kalos was done a bit better the first time around. Really love some of the pokemon designs like heliolisk and the box art legendaries but it was just made so poorly. Overleveled way too quickly, being stopped for a friend battle every 3 seconds and even not showcasing their own pokemon a lot of the time and instead going for the Kanto mons. Hopefully za does it some justice
