Excellent video, it's always been a dream of mine to drive in Phoenix. Arizona sure do love their freeways and they're not ashamed to admit it!

Phoenix is a lot of fun to drive through. The desert mountain scenery doesn't hurt either.

The best freeways (Phoenix). I like that all exit ramps have a large signs that tells u the only turns and also the electronic signs that ADOT administrates.👏

@@AsphaltPlanet1 I lived there for 2 years. I was there for college at ASU. I wish I would have spent more time driving around and exploring the city. I was always busy with work and school but I still could have made more time to do it. But I still had my share of fun when living there. I loved going to baseball games at Chase Field and spring training!

Just experienced Phoenix (mostly the Scottsdale area) for myself a week & a half ago. Certainly wasn't expecting a lot of their asphalt to be that rough... but on my way through the northern side of the state, I heard and saw it was infinitely worse... a flat tire a half hour south of Flagstaff completely threw out most of my schedule on the ride home smh... But quick question: exactly how bad was traffic throughout Phoenix on a typical afternoon prior to Covid19? When I was there, it seemed westbound 101 approaching I-17 & I-10 approaching downtown either way were the big choke points... the former I suspected from construction, but seeing this vid confirmed that wasn't the case...

Phoenix traffic sucks. My most recent trip to Phoenix was this march, just before covid, and even with the completion of the South Mountain Freeway, I-10 is still pretty much a right-off through Downtown and beyond during peak hours. During my 2020 trip, I found that the traffic on I-10 was particularly bad heading westbound between Loop 202 and Loop 101 en-route to the west valley. Loop 101 is really congested between the 51 and I-10, and the loops get congested around large interchanges. I could go on -- in my experience Phoenix has really bad traffic. That sucks about your tire. I blew a tire in Houston on a road trip (actually the road trip that this was filmed on), and it cost me an afternoon. Fortunately though I was in town, so it was pretty easy to get to a tire shop. I could see having a tire blown out being considerably more difficult and time consuming being up on rural I-17.

Which city do u think has the best freeway system? I think that Phoenix... but u have more experience.
@AsphaltPlanet1
@AsphaltPlanet1 4 года назад
I kind of hate ranking cities to be honest. I do like Phoenix's network, but I'd say for similarly sized cities that San Diego has a more complete freeway network than Phoenix.

@@AsphaltPlanet1 From my (outsider) perspective, I would say that the biggest gap in Phoenix's freeway system is that US-60 Grand Avenue/Phoenix-Wickenburg Highway is only a surface arterial. US-60 (up to Wickenburg) and US-93 consist of the most direct route between Phoenix and Las Vegas, although the plans for I-11 involve it making a bypass of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Development has yet to become widespread west of Loop 303 so a freeway there is still possible, even just inside Loop 303 there is space for an interchange at R.H. Johnson/Sunrise. With some ROW acquisition getting a freeway down to Loop 101 or even 67th Avenue/Northern in Glendale might be an option, but there would be serious opposition to something like this, from businesses as well as residents in Sun City just west of Loop 101.

It'll be curious to see if any of Loop 303 is used for I-11 or if they build something new further west.

Their freeway network looks kinda complete at this point, and judging from the comments below it didn't seem to fix I-10 traffic (not surprising). Makes me wonder how's their mass transit system, if they do have as such... They definitely need it even despite the ludicrous sprawl that plagues the city.
@AsphaltPlanet1
@AsphaltPlanet1 4 года назад
Phoenix does have a small light rail network, but I don't think public transit is never going to be very popular in Phoenix. Today, for example, it's 44 degrees Celsius outside. That's way to hot to be standing on a street corner and waiting for a bus in my opinion.
@BrandonClaridge
@BrandonClaridge 3 года назад
@@AsphaltPlanet1 At least Phoenix has dry heat and not the more humid heat seen further east, as in parts of Texas like DFW. Still, 40C+ temperatures (104F+) are very hot, even with dry heat.

If they ever build SR-30 south of the 10 that would actually help traffic on the 10 in the west valley
