Why? Why am I addicted to these videos? I'm not a farmer. I've never been close to a cow, or a farm for that matter. I'm a pasty fat nerd who spends 99% of his time indoors. This could not be LESS relevant to me. And yet, these videos just... fascinate me. I suppose it's partly the knowledge that when an animal is in so much pain like the cows here, someone is there to provide comfort and healing. Keep up the good work, Nate the Hoof Guy! You got a watcher!

I''ll bet just getting the small stones and bits of detached horn off of the exposed coriam and the pockets of inflammation gives some relief right away, apart from the other things you do. Thanks for showing this one, Nate. Between that pup and the Jersey who likes giving 'nose kisses' it's clear that some of the animals show you some love, LOL. That depends on how fast a cows horn grows and how fast the meds work to heal the lesion. I know, for a horse, farriers come out anywhere from 5 to 8 weeks. They usually need that amount of time for the hoof to start healing.

If I recall correctly, these can progress really quickly- even a matter of days can result in a large section of dermatitis and loose horn? Cows are prey animals so they work hard hide injuries as a survival mechanism. That’s why the regular trimming is so important. Maybe someone can correct me, though!
@Nevario1
@Nevario1 2 года назад
It's hard to tell how long the cow has had a particular injury or infection since cows are considered 'prey' animals, they will hide their pain and weaknesses so they don't appear like an easy meal for a predator.

Here in south Texas, conditions like these are very rarely seen although a cow with a sore hoof is not utterly unusual. However, such conditions are most often treated with a general antibiotic applied in an intramuscular approach. This sort of treatment which you illustrate is much more often seen applied to horses. Thank you for this great learning opportunity. Well done.
