Spot on! With most of substandard purchases I've made, I also encounter other issues like wires that easily bend near the connectors. Sadly, the prongs from these USBs tend to easily break with no way to "lift" them up. 😞

Thanks very much for this video, now my cable fits securely -- this in combination with picking the dust out with a toothpick did the trick! One tip for those trying to get the dust out -- i picked out dust a couple of weeks ago but the dust can be pretty tightly compacted -- that's why it's best to use a toothpick. Just understand that you may not see fluffballs of dust yet there is still dust in that port!

Your vid made me examine usb micro cords that had gotten torqued heavily (kicking the cord by accident and jerking out of phone) and i did discover when the outer shell was bent in a 'nose-down' position from horizontal, almost all had their lock-blades "submerged" - zero-tools fix for me was, to grip the plug and gently press downward at an angle against the table, bending the shell back straight enough to "re-expose" the lock-blades. I didn't realize before this, that the lock-blades were usually attached to an inner structure and not the shell itself. thank you SO much!!! i just fixed three cords in about five minutes!!!

Ya, it worked. For micro-USB I had to go with a sturdy safety pin to pry those tiny little buggers up. I had to dig down pretty aggressively into the plastic insert beneath the groove to get a lever on the hooks. And on the bottom there are two springs you can pry up (very gently) to restore some of the snugness.

I just went through this same task without the benefit of this video. My old cables were so old and worn that I didn't even see the prongs you lifted. My observation was that the fit was loose and I blamed it on the female port. So I used a small paring knife to pry the top of the port in the phone down, making the cave shorter. I previously tried the lint removal fix but I didn't remove the battery which for a technician (me) was not wise but nothing shorted. After your video I wound up prying up the tips of the flanges and I've got a good connection. Thanks for telling a shortcuts old timer like me your soultions. It would also help if I didn't leave my phone/tablets on the floor while charging, then stepping on them.

This is one way of doing it. But the main issue often are not this little metal hooks bending in, most often the metal of the actual plug bending down, without the hooks bending with it. Use a small pincer or pliers (sorry I do not know the proper English word for it, so maybe it sounds funny for you) that fits between the hooks, so it won't bend the hooks, and gently bend it back in position. Works for me and is fast. Repair a good cable is worth doin it. Most don't know, but a bad quality cable could be the reason, why your phone is charging slowly or not charging at all, same for data transfer.
@robnuts4043
@robnuts4043 5 лет назад
Exactly. You should always pay attention to quality when it comes to electronics and accessories. Sure you can probly find a cable for $2 that's 10 feet long so seems awesome but the metal is gonna be cheap as fuck and will wear out incredibly fast. But companies don't care cuz they know ppl are always lookin to save a dollar so they'll buy em anyways.

I'll tell you - people just don't have much patience these days. Don't mind the naysayers. Great video - I just repaired two cables that I've replaced. Now I've got three good ones.

Listen Pasha: you can up the video speed via the settings/playback speed. From 1.25 to 2 x. Save yourself some perceived agony. Duh.

@@TrentPierceProjects forgot to mention, I used fingernail clippers to gently grab the prongs. It's was easier for me but you have to be really careful not to grab to tight or they will cut them right off! Thanks again!

Thank you very much! I've been having trouble for weeks. My husband wanted me to get a new cell phone, he said it was the deal inside the cell phone itself. I have trouble buying a new cell phone every couple of years. I don't need a whole bunch of apps. :D

Thank you sir. I loved my cord and didn't want a new one. This saved it. Wish I knew this one sooner.

The 806 dislikes are from people who would rather waste money and keep buying new cords rather than taking hints from the video
