I agree with Elijah. If there was not for Sam's support, Frodo could try as he might, he would not be able to go anywhere. The task Frodo had was an impossible thing to do but that goes to show the power of the unconditional support Sam gave.

And if Gollum - who was definitely NOT a hero - the Ring wouldn't have been destroyed ...... In the book, Frodo mentions this to Sam after they escape the Crack of doom but before they are rescued by the eagles. He says: "If it hadn't been for Gollum, I couldn't have destroyed the Ring, Sam, So let's forgive him." I miss that remark in the film.

I looove the story of when they hugged and asked each other if they were ready LOL they are Frodo and Sam. What a gift this LOTR legacy is~

i agree with elijah's perspective that sam and frodo were both critical in the ring's eventual destruction. frodo was the only one that could've carried the burden (when sam carried it from shelob's lair to cirith ungol it had already worn him down) whereas sam was frodo's rock and had his back whenever he was in trouble. in the books it's explained that since sauron put his life force into the ring it was somewhat sentient, so on the path to mount doom with every step the ring became more and more heavy because it was resisting them. and all the while sauron was whispering to frodo that the ring was his now and they'd be partners who'd rule middle-earth together and so on. and sam was always there for frodo even when smeagol/gollum drove a wedge between them momentarily, and were it not for him taking the ring after defeating shelob it would have been found by sauron.

The 'hero' question. Wood seems to assume heroism and success are linked, just because Frodo would not have 'made it' without Sam, frodo's sacrifice was ultimate. Allowing pure evil to sift through your soul in order to expose and destroy it - Sam is heroic absolutely but Frodo... I agree with Sean.

Sean your a wonderful actor, and a humble man. It's Nice to see you and Elijah are still very good friends.

I want there to be a full on LOTR reunion more than anything. I'm talking the whole cast or at least the fellowship.

Okay I’ve seen Sean on Colbert’s show probably when it came out so about two years ago and ever since wondered what Sean wanted to ask Stephen. I thought it was kinda crappy of Colbert to cut him off like that “you re gonna ask ME questions on my own show”. That convo would have been amazing to hear I wish they kept it in. Im glad Sean mentions it here. I absolutely agree with them and Elijah about the Amazon show my biggest concern is also the visuals. How do you recreate Middle Earth all over again because they can’t really use what the movies did, which is beyond extraordinary, but how are they going to go about it then? They would have to make it Middlearthy but different again and the movies had the extraordinary talents of Alan Lee and John Howe. It wasn’t a piece of cake to make that world. I just don’t have high hopes for that. And that was a great question: in one sentence, what is LotR about? I’m surprised a bit they didn’t say it was, as it is if you ask me, about friendship.

Frodo would've died almost immediately without Sam. He couldn't have taken on Gollum alone, and he almost puts on the ring a few times.

No, Elijah. The look of LOTR has not been established. That's Peter Jackson's version. For gods' sakes, haven't you ever seen more than one version of Hamlet? Oliver Twist? Hell, Superman has gone through different incarnations with different style signatures. Why not LOTR, which is a classic story well worth retelling? Why this insistence that THIS can only be the version? I want to see MANY versions of LOTR, each with its own stamp, its own viewpoint to bear on this massive story. It's childish to think it couldn't or shouldn't be revisited. With all the shitty stories being remade constantly, why shouldn't this amazing tale get more than one chance at bat??
