I love tiny bits like that the 9th MRB get a note for downing their 3rd Titan with minimal losses. Millions of heroes fought in Enduring freedom and their storys are never to be heard but lets hail the 9th MRB for we know atleast their story.
Titans sound like guardians from BOTW. Makes you wonder if sony and nintendo worked close by each other making these games. With these post apocalyptic worlds
@@spoonsmcgee is about the survival of zero dawn... like play as Elizabeth, and fight against faro robots and build zero dawn project, and the ending is gonna be so sad like Arthur morgan, she'll die and sit in the couch in a garden before she was talking to gaia
What baffles me is that these machines were created by people. They look like they were designed by aliens or other machines. To use a monstrosity like this in a conventional battle boggles my mind. To think they actually sold these things to prospective buyers...
Yea, I don’t see how they could have been used commercially when they are hundreds of meters long and would cause mass devastation just by moving around.
they were designed as massive siege weapons capable of crushing the strongest fortifications while also giving production support AND advanced learning combat AI support. they were meant to be the strongest robot u can buy and were used for massive scale combat when u needed the heaviest power u can have.
@@Malamockq Humans werent in the actual battle as they were autonomous. At that time it was normal for companies to buy these war machines to take over assets. Crazy stuff...but yes humans can do anything for power
I believe there were at least 30-40 of them over North America. That's due to the fact that like 2 or 3 different Horus robots are within the map of Horizon Zero Dawn itself, which isn't even a fraction of the size of North America.
Fair enough -but are these locations not also what is basically established as the final last stand? Y'know, to protect Zero Dawn until they could seal themselves away and remain hidden? Those five could very well have rampaged across united states chasing the retreating human armies?
@@NoxaClimaxX Yeah if this game were 1:1 scale getting from the Cut to Sunfall on foot would take over 200 hours. Twice that, if you had to take a detour through denver like you do in the game.
@@Shaun_Jones And in war a considerable portion of those would be deployed to the front to fight the remaining enemy forces, which at bare minimum means close to a thousand in north america.
I saw them throughout the game and never considered how many of them take part on the continental U.S campaign... and now that you make them sound like the Reapers I don’t even wanna know lol. Really nice video!
Have a look at General Harris 's introduction at the Sun ring facility. To the right of him on the background images is at one point a counter of the chariot line robots. It counts Horus robots up to over 400k. Considering that they also consume so much bio mass, the numbers have to be extreme. 5 won't cut it when they also need to manufacture.
There is a lot that can be inferred by what little bit of info we are given about the numbers. For one) there had to have been at least 45 HR-Titans active at some point, including the five record to have fallen. Two) they would have averaged consuming about 300 sq/mi a day worth of biomass each and Three) we can hazard a guess where they started. In the datapoint “USRC Deployment Records”, the swarms are mentioned by names, ES-17, ES-18 and PN-12, with the letters referring to the Eastern Seaboard and Pacific Northwest respectively. Adding up both regions gives us 30. We also know that there was a third wave coming up through South America at the time, which for simplicity I'll count as 15 strong. Now for the next part, we are going to have to do a little math. The Earth has a landmass of about 57.5 million sq/mi. Elizabit’s presentation in “Secrets of the Deep” list 420 days between then and zero day. 57,500,000 / 420 = 13,690 totale sq mi consumed a day. That divided by 45 Titans is 304 square miles each per day. Considering it would nearly two years to cover the 361 million sq/mi of sea, it is reasonable to assume the swarms would leave the seafood for their last meal. This would also mean that most of the Corpses of the metal devils went into hibernation on the seafloor. Now considering the Colorado area was beset from all directions, it seems reasonable to assume it was the last bastion of land life on earth when the swarms hit. If the spread was nearly even, it would mean that the conflict the original swarm had been deployed for was on Australia, New Zealand, or the Southern tip of Africa (the landmasses closest to the antipode of Colorado Springs).
We know that the rogue swarm was purchased by the Hartz-Timor Energy Combine. Thus, unless Timor changed locations, the first rogue swarm would have been based out of Southeast Asia. As for being beset from all directions, I agree to a point. The fact that a salient was overrun implies that there were other battle lines which held for a little longer. Thus, the approach from Kansas to Colorado would have been eaten faster than other sides. I like the idea that the 5 Horuses sighted in Kansas are the 5 that we see in the game, running rampant in the backfield while others are still held back on their lines. It will be interesting to see what happened to the other battlelines once Kansas fell.
Everytime I see those Horus machines, I wonder how they move. I kinda imagined that they walked like spiders using their tendrils or maybe they were flying crafts that just used the tendrils like octopus limbs.
I would love a prequel game where you fight the Faro Swarm. It would be very sad, getting to know and love the characters, while already knowing how the story ends, while the characters continue to hold onto the ever fading hope that Zero Dawn will save them. Like playing RDR2 and knowing that Arthur will die because he's not in RDR1. But you still grow to love him anyway, and then cry when he dies. Don't at me, you know you cried. We all did. Guerilla have the FPS shooter know-how from making Killzone, and the experience of making fantastic, loveable characters from Horizon ZD and FW. I think it would be an interesting add-on game, perhaps after they finish telling Aloy's story. They could also make games in other regions of the world, with characters from Cradle facilities in Shanghai or Bangkok or Berlin or Perth.
Just recently started playing horizon again for my third playthrough, came across your channel and I am really enjoying your videos, hopefully this channel continues to grow pending the release of horizon: forbidden west, keep up the good work.
Nah, I hope Guerrilla goes the Santa Monica Studio way: 1. Lay the foundations in the first game 2. Intensively expand upon the story in the second game 3. Throw in every single epic battle one can think of in the third game (4. Make a prequel during Enduring Victory)
The possible 5th one can be seen in the trailer, by the golden gate bridge. Supposing that the USA was one of the last places on earth that the swarm striked, most of the last remaining functioning HORUS could be found throughout the country, I suppose.
BIG QUESTION!!: why didn't the horus wake up when hades sent the signal through minerva's tower? Why was it only the other two? If hades wanted to erease all life again, he would've need the titan too wouldn't he?
Plot convenience. I believe the PS4 doesn't even have enough processing power to render a moving Horus. Also, if you think about it, NONE of the Faro robots should work anymore, no machine will work perfectly after 100 years without maintenace, let alone 1000. And although they were capable of repairing themselves, they stood hibernating for at least half a milenium.
@@ukice-qs1sm That's incorrect. They are also capable of biomass conversion. The horuses just don't usually do it because it's less efficient than allowing the other classes to do it while they focus on production. Remember, by design the biomass conversion process is intended as an emergency measure in the event that regular fuel is limited.
Do you think we will have to track down the subordinate functions and reboot Gaia in a different location (Probably ted faro bunker?( Which will lead to us tracking down Sylens and going to the forbidden west maybe even give us a prequel to the glitch that caused the Faro Plague and of course learning of hades masters? And also could do a video on how Hephaestus learned to speak as Sylens said that hades was unable to until Sylens began tinkering. With it?
I’d like that to be the sequel, plus other things too, if we could go back to when the swarm first stopped responding and do a kind of old world plus new world combo, I’d be the happiest.
Great vid, please keep them coming! I am entranced by the lore of this game (I finished it only a week ago) and was surprised to find so little content on the Interwebs regarding these exact questions (so I was thrilled to see this!). What was the Wichita Salient? What was a DEW? Why were some bunker facilities "safe" from Faro Plague detection (GPRIME, Elysium I would imagine) and others not (USRC, Director Evans' bunker). How come air power was not a trump card for humanity? (since apparently the Plague was limited to the three ground-based models)...or at least enough of an advantage to keep it a stalemate? And, ultimately most intriguing to me, what was life like for Minutemen and Recalls in 2065? (Comic book series anyone?) The avenues of exploration that this universe provides feel limitless. P.S. Oddyssey - did it really explode, or was that just another "motivational" story? (And if it didn't...1,000 years seems like the amount of time they would need to make it back...)
Actually it`s a great question about air forces It`s possible that they were mostly relocated for resource transportation to ZD facilities, thou surely some should`ve stayed with the army Another idea is that we don`t exactly know fighting abilities of Kopesh and Horus models, maybe they had exceptionally good ground-air targeting system which blocked air forces completely
Air power was used against the swarm, so apparently it just wasn't enough. I actually wonder if there was another model that could fly, since the robots were able to cross the oceans.
DEW is a directed energy weapon en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directed-energy_weapon Wichita Salient is probably a fortification line in wichita. im sure the machines especially the khopesh were well designed to engage aircraft with their swarm launchers...which seem to be specifically made for that unlike the rocket launchers. maybe even the railgun cannons too. yes if the bunker is hidden and completely sealed, it wont be found...but no one can survive in it for too long into the future as there is not enough food. thats why even the best bunkers were time limited. still...if humanity could create PZD, they should also be capable of making a fully sustainable permanent bunker colony...but i guess it was just too much to do at once. yes it seems the odyssey DID explode, but i wonder if maybe the faro plague managed to upload itself into one of the fragments and then later transmit itself back into Hades.
In military terms, a salient is a "bulge" in a frontline, presenting opportunites for pentetrating deeper into enemy territory or for outflanking, encircling and destroying enemy forces. For a classic example of this in action, look at the events leading up to the Battle of Kursk in WW2 and the strategies employed by both sides. We can assume the Wichita salient was one such bulge in the line, with the 5 horuses using it to break through. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salient_(military)
Out of curiosity, has anyone ever been able to find out why all the titans in the game seem to have stopped dead in their tracks? Even the titan that was in the process of ripping the USRC to pieces appears to have stopped in mid attack.
The in game explanation is that they become dormant when they are low on fuel, and there are no readily available fuel sources. So it's possible that they did what they were meant to do, which is infiltrate the fortified bunkers, and then rested while the smaller robots did the rest of the work. That does raise the question of why a Horus tentacle stopped just a few feet a way from the entrance to Eleuthia 9. It must not have been aware that there was biomatter on the other side of the door. It's possible that the distinct overlapping triangle shape of the doors to the Zero Dawn facilities were specifically designed to mess with the Chariot robots' visual recognition. So when they found them, they were unable to process that they were looking at a door. However that's just pure speculation.
That probably explains why 2 of the Titans stopped but there’s still the question of the Titan that was attacking the USRC. It undoubtedly would had ‘eaten’ some of the defenders. On a side note, I wonder if there was any data points that indicated what the full capabilities of the Horus actually are.
There really isn`t that much info about them, except the common knowledge - biomass consumption, robot replication, drill tentacles to get through defences and something like hive-mind center with learning capabilities
I cannot really believe that. I mean, why should this massive machine stop? It is pretty unlikely that the Horus just stopped the attack on the USRC and let the kopesh and scarabs do it all alone, while there were hundreds of people around.
I think the 9th MRB managed to kill the Titan attacking the USRC base right before they were all killed by the rest of the swarm. They were probably blasting it with tank shots to the face right up until the very end.
Men they are really experienced with futuristic setups (killzone trilogy) They must be working already on a precuel trying to contains the plague. That could be amazing!
If you notice in the video from General Herres, The Bad News, there is a section where you can see rising numbers to indicate a growing robot population. Right before it cuts to the end of that segment the number for Horus units is over 1,000! And like 400 million Corrupters!
Using this video and the extended version of the Forbidden West reveal trailer my tally for the number of Horus class Titans is up to 9. Four we see in HZD as we play. Three are reported to have been killed by the 9th MRB before the collapse of the Wichita Salient (this number assumes these three were not repaired as speculated by RSQ, not something I am willing to bet against). Finally we see two Titans in the Forbidden West reveal trailer. One at the Golden Gate Bridge and one at an unknown location. That brings us to 9. I think we have underestimated the number of Titans. And that's not even counting the possible kills before the Faro Plague reached America. Hopefully more data points will provide more info on the 9th MRB's and Enduring Freedom's record during the defense of Zero Dawn. Today we get to see a new gameplay trailer so maybe more speculation and educated guesses are soon to be added to this discussion.
It was never said that the Titans were created in the Wichita salient they broke through so there could a number we don't know because only 9 or 10 at max are in America but we are forgetting that the whole earth was destroyed not only america so there could be many more of them
@@aavishkarpayale3712 I can't decide if you actually read my post or not. I never stated that the Titans were created at the Wichita Salient. I also clearly said my count did not include Titans killed in other parts of the world. Topping it off I agree with RSQ that there is a better than even chance that the 3 Titans killed by the 9th MRB on the coasts were repaired, probably by another Titan, and aided in breaking through the Wichita Salient. At least two of these ended up at All Mother Mountain and The Grave Hoard. So either you read my post and are agreeing with me or you did not and are trying to convince me of my own speculations. I would like to point out that my original post was put out there to be either confirmed or corrected by the fans and RSQ. Neither of which you did in your reply.
Per the Wikia which not really sure if they have any actual evidence to back it up or are simply guessing say the world wide number at zero day could have been 1000. Considering how big Earth is it’s not unlikely to think their could have been this many.
The question I've been pondering regarding the Wichita Five is the final fate of the one on All-Mother Mountain. It's not entirely clear to me why it would have known about/attacked ELEUTHIA-9, and what would have stopped it if it had. They were protecting the ZD facilities by hiding them, rather than holding last stands against the swarm at them.
It's entirely possible that it had just perched on the mountain. It drilled in in search of rare materials to build more robots with when either the shutdown order came or it went into standby. Remember, there was no final struggle for these machines. Once all life was gone, they went into standby mode, waiting for more life it could detect and then ~120 years later the shutdown order came.
I just want to know why the hell will Gaia deactivate the Fero robots, but not create machines to break the Fero robots down before starting anything. That would make the most logical sense.
It seems that while waiting for Minerva to complete her function, Gaia was probably making the cauldrons throughout the world, as it seems the broadcast towers were made in one. Obviously she couldn't scrap them while they were still active or else she'd become a threat to them, but I think the simplest answer is that the bulk of her manufacturing needs were completed before she shut them down. She might've harvested some for rare materials like lithium or platinum afterwards, but all that iron? Not so much.
My only question (Maybe it's explained somewhere and I just missed it) is, because the Horus is basically a walking factory for replication of the machines, could a Horus self replicate and make another Horus? Cause even if that's not how it would work, it's a pretty terrifying thought.
i think the robots CAN replicate themselves regardless of the horus, but the horus was specifically made as a factory of other robots. so there is the factory construction process and there is a separate replication process where the unit replicates itself directly.
I always wonder how many Horus Class machines their actually were. It sorta seems like humanity pre war should have been focussing on these machines over all else
Lithium Beach is in California. More than likely, it was originally Lithium Valley, which stretches from Bombay, CA to Imperial, CA. However with Rising water levels it would eventually become Lithium Beach.
Feels like there’s a ton in HFW Always weird that they stopped mid-assault though. I know it looks better visually but I feel like everything would be done well before Minerva came into effect. Realistically they would probably be in a standby position when they were turned off.
There had better be hundreds of Horus Titans in the oceans, if the world collapsed because of six or fewer titans the previous world's humans were incompetent idiots.
From the display when General Herres was talking, there were over 1000 Horus Titans. (You've probably already spotted it, I just wanted to put this out for others to read)
I want to fight a Horus! We need a God of War style boss fight with one. It doesn’t need to be able to reproduce... just lemme kill it! Also, it would be a interesting explanation for Minerva waking up; the subroutine is meant to take down the swarm. If Sylens(or maybe the Tenakth) wake up a metal devil... Minerva should wake up and start deactivating that swarm. I mean, technically, even Hades waking up the swarm should’ve triggered Minerva.
I guess we now know where the 5th Titan is thanks to the Forbidden West trailer. Perhaps an update to this video would be appropriate. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these lore videos. I'm sure FW will be providing you with even more topics for this channel.

I'm not sure how this is anything relevant. The swarm was shutdown only after 60 years of those events. So any Horuses could've gone to anywhere and the current horuses we see are just ones that were shutdown when they were hibernating. It seems likely that they would have reclaimed all damaged/destroyed materials and the units we see are all shutdown ones 60 years later.
I always wondered how man Horace titans there were. Since they were the units that produced all the other units why couldn't they just nuke the horace's and stop their reproduction and could a Horace make another Horace somehow
Why would we fight a Horus in the first install, that’s too early and I highly doubt aloy would be capable of taking down a Horus that early. In forbidden west she has way more tech this time, that’s when the Horus will show up
You seem to be forgetting that after zero Day there is more than 50 years tongo before they are shut down. Aka they could have moved. More could have entered America looking for "food"
Including its tentacles, it's 292 meters (958 feet) long, 143 meters (469 feet 2 inches) wide, and 91 meters (298 feet 7 inches) wide. You can find more information from Alex Zapata on ArtStation: he made the model for the Horus.
Yea I probably going to make a skeletal version of this since I have limited time and materials for the mean time still studying and it will take awhile and maybe someone who will surpass my work but he/shw who would attempt it please give me credit for the idea
