Lore For Noobs : The Horde Parts 1 Through 15 compiled into one epic video for your viewing pleasure, learn the story of the Horde in a new and creative way from Pride!
Kagarin? not really don't get me wrong there's lots of it but it just feels like they made up a bunch of names and put it in a blender to get a lore. lord of the rings has much better lore imo.
But the wow lore was in books before the game...... at least as far as i remember there were even a manga series about the lich king before the expansion was announced
*sigh* the first warcraft book was released in 2001 .. the first warcraft game was released in 1994 .. and your manga point holds no valid argument, yea they made a manga, but it was based off the game. . .instead of the other way around. How is this simple logic flying over your head? No video game to date has the amount of lore warcraft holds, Elder scroll's would really be the only big contender. .
The cards were a pretty nice use of visuals. Way to keep the viewer's interest. Were you ever planning to update this since the Mists of Pandaria expansion?
To be Honest.... World of Warcraft, or more exactly WarCraft is has one of the most interesting and richest Lore I ever seen in my life, or at least from Games, im not sure how much of inspiration does LOTR made into WC, but even that, i really like that is not exactly like (Horde is the Bad Guys and Alliance is the Good Guys) every race and each Alliances has their own Heroes and Villains and that's what really makes it more interesting than any other VideoGame Lore i ever see.
While I think this is the best (brief and to-the-point) lore video available, it's missing out on some extremely important points; the largest of which is the war against the scourge, that happened simultaneously to the Burning Legion’s attempt at claiming Azeroth (during what is known as the Third War - Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos), which in turn leads to confusion at around 41:00. The confusion being - “How did the Forsaken come to be, and how are they different form the scourge?” I understand that, at least according to the title of the video, this is told from the Horde's point of view, and that technically the whole part of the story that relates to Arthas’ corruption and to the Forsaken breaking apart from the scourge is told from the Alliance’s perspective. But still, I think it's a crucial piece of info to put out there with all the rest, especially as a way of building the background to the part described in 47:20. I think I would've been completely lost had I not been well aware of the story of Arthas' corruption in seek of vengeance against Mal'Ganis, and, in turn, him becoming the Lich King and occupying Icecrown Citidel. So, to those who feel lost as to what I described, I suggest you watch a compilation of Warcraft III cinematics (search for “The Story of Warcraft pre-WoW (movie edit) part 1/2”, and just cut straight to the Warcraft III parts, since it all happened during Reign of Chaos). Also, you left out a HUGE chunk of info (at around 31:34) regarding Thrall’s escape from slavery, coming of power and the creation the New Horde, with the help of Grom and Orgrim, and then you just jumped on along to the part where Thrall's heading west to Kalimdor because of The Prophet’s (Medivh’s) advice. So, to those left somewhat confused as to how Thrall escaped and did all of that, I suggest again that you go to the video I mentioned above and read what’s written in the part called “interlude”, directly prior to the events of Warcraft III. And, finally, you left out everything, and I mean everything, regarding Illidan, prior to the events of WoW: TBC. That includes Illidan's forbidden release from imprisonment by Tyrande Whisperwind in order to help the war against the Burning Legion, his betrayal in search for power (again), which ultimately led to his escape into hiding in the Outlands after failing to stop, now king, Arthas from becoming the Lich King, plus the reasons for Lady Vashj’s and Kael’thas Sunstrider’s loyalty towards him. All-in-all, great job! Very informative, lovely format, and without a doubt a tremendous effort. Also, lovely speech at the end. Gave me goosebumps ;)
I just have to commend you Gydeon Rozen for your thorough feedback. As someone just browsing youtube and seeing this as a suggested video, it's extremely informative to see the flaws in a well crafted video especially when having to do with Lore. I didn't think I'd care as much to look into the missing pieces you pointed out but after realizing the honest effort that went into both this video and your feedback... I just had to and am now even more inspired by this truly creative game and universe. Major props dude. Keep doing your thing!
yes, during their stay in alliance they taught humans arts of magic and thus we have human mages. in return alliance helped them with the forest trolls.
Only 9 minutes in and I'm completely lost... I think this video is probably better for people who already know the story and just want a refresher. For new people (or noobs) it's really difficult to follow. Just a series of events with very little in the way of motivations or explanations of what everything is. Also, the writing on the cards only make it more confusing by giving vague details without context.
darkmay200 You pick a story arc and stick to it, instead of constantly introducing more and more new elements until it is no longer recognizable and confusing.
Well Orc's got they'r reasons that wasn't stated in this lore to do what they did. First of All Ner'zhul was tricked by Kil'jaeden, to corupt the Orc's and kill all the Draenei (Kil revange for not folowing him). Coruption spred to the lad drying planet and kiling plant life. Orcs have no choice if they want to survival but to move to another world. Also they bloodlust in first war and so one, was becos of deamos corruption (Mannoroth blood). And one more thing Ogr's orginated from Dreanor not Azeroth. Lastly being deaply interested is something make yuo a fan o geek and not gay.
ateva84 On the other hand, I cannot blame the Alliance for being "dicks" to the Orcs. After all, the Horde slaughtered countless people in Azeroth and destroyed their kingdoms.
Illidan didn't really serve the burning legion while in outland. The illidary demons were outcasts of the burning legion and Illidan was gathering all these forces to ward off the wrath if Kiljaeden. Illidan had in fact enslaved Magtheradon in order to turn the orcs trapped in outland into fell orcs. Kaelthas was the one who served the burning legion.
Why is this using the card game to explain it? I don't get it considering how horrible the card game is. exampe the art for Gul'Dan is not Gul'Dan.. but a unnamed orc Gul'Dan has always been depected as having a white beard and wearing a hood before this.
Xandia™ ˆ Legends of Norrath which has been doing this for the EverQuest franchise with just about the same play style years before this ever came out.
jesus christ, it was because of the circumstances. Pit 500 raging orcs from the old horde against 775 footmen and the answer is pretty obvious; the horde wins 99% of the time.
I've never paid attention to Lore..but after seeing this video I realize how much background and knowledge I was missing...who was this boss or that boss and why did this or that happen all falls into place and makes more sense of what came to past..thanks for series..GJ:))
2:15 Are you saying that the orcs are good people, but the only reason why the Alliance hates them is because they didn't know that the orcs were manipulated to do evil acts?
Dude. i want a skyrim type wow rpg it would be SO COOL! i love the wow lore however i dont like the hardcore pve thing, it would be so awesome experiencing the lore in a hd fps game!
I don think you mentioned that ner'zhul was the turned into the lich king and and doesn't illidan try to stop arthas. really good for the beginning but now im confused on the whole arthas and illidan relation lol
When Arthas and Illidan met for the first time, it wasn't friendly and it was brief. However they realized they had a common enemy, the Burning Legion. If you remember, after Arthas and the Scourge helped to summon Archimond into Azeroth, he and his forces were dumped like yesterday's garbage and denied the kingdom he wanted to rule over. When you asked whether or not Illidan did try to stop Arthas, you were right, but that only happened much later on when their agendas were both focused on Ner'Zhul. Ner'Zhul had sided with Arthas against Kil'Jaeden so it made sense that when he had Illidan under his control, he would have him destroy Ner'Zhul, but Arthas didn't want that to happen as he needed that power to rule over the Scourge at all cost.
It made blizzard a shitload of money so obviously no piece of the Lore goes unturned. Warcraft III did it's best to make the Horde sensible, logical, a mirror of Humanity (and a better sight at that) and Garrosh makes it the Old Horde
Chen Stormstout's family came from Pandaria, but they left on the Wandering Isle (Big turtle). Chen came from the Wandering Isle, but never knew about Pandaria until the mists revealed itself.
Great storytelling of some of the major story! I know it is an hour long and to tell the whole thing it would be like 20 more hours but some parts seemed liked they could have used an extra minute and a half explanation. Things like some stuff happened in Lordaeron and.. oh, and now there are undead could have used a min back story. Or Illidan, kael thas, and Lady Vashj are for some reason in Outland could have and extra couple minutes. The whole Arthas is now the Lich King.... etc x 1000. But overall.... a great summary of what was going on. =D
So... Horde invades Azeroth, kills people. Political maneuvering and scary dead guys rising up against the horde, warlocks op... That's what I've learned :)
This "new" Horde, is only better than the "old" Horde because they broke their ties to the Legion, outside of that they're still seeking conquest and actively trying to seek ways to destroy the Alliance. Especially when they claim peace. Let's not forget that the Alliance is a direct response to the Horde invading Azeroth. If the Horde want to claim the Alliance are the bad guys then we must reflect that the Alliance is a direct result of the Horde and thus if they are truly bad, then the Horde will always be worse by default. When you look at it all, the Alliance is just constantly responding in kind to the Horde's actions. The Horde have never been in a position to deliver the final blow to the Alliance, but the Alliance have been in a position to end the Horde. ******************************************************************************************* On a less serious note..(just for laughs and parallels) ******************************************************************************************* If it was up to me, the Orcs would get a one way ticket back to Draenor along with the space cows (Draenei). The Horde(Democrats) really are just a bunch of illegal immigrants who came here to steal our jobs and resources. The have no claim to anything on Azeroth and are a defeated foe whose only goal is to oppose the Alliance(Republicans) and use propaganda to under mind the Alliance(Republicans) every chance they get, making sure no one remembers how this war between Horde(Democrats) and Alliance(Republicans) actually started and who the aggressor really was. It really boils down to the Horde(Democrats) being a faction full of manipulated SJW vs the true patriots of Azeroth, the Alliance(Republicans) who truly uphold honor and glory. The Horde(Democrats) have pulled a Pearl Harbor on us a few times, claiming peace, but attacking none the less. I often refer to the Horde(Democrats) as Japan, destroyed by the Alliance(Republicans) in wars and now desperately hanging on because of the Alliance's(Republicans) mercy despite no mercy being shown by the Horde(Democrats) when they decimated all of southern Eastern Kingdoms without provocation. Maybe the "new" Horde(Democrats) doesn't remember the history of the Horde(Democrats), but the Alliance(Republicans) remembers. Just because one day the Horde(Democrats) decided it wanted to start doing the right thing here and there, doesn't excuse the past. There are still characters of the Alliance(Republicans) that remember losing their families to the Horde(Democrats) without any cause. Desperate races who didn't get slaughtered by the Horde(Democrats) lost any honor they had when they joined the Horde(Democrats) who came here to conquer Azeroth for itself. The only reason the Horde(Democrats)ended up taking in other races is because they were too weak to conquer Azeroth alone. Now it seems that the Horde(Democrats) have become an alternate 2016 America in which Hillary Clinton(Sylvanas) won the election and pulled a Benghazi of sorts and abandoned the Alliance(Republicans) and King Varian Wrynn(Trump) on the Broken Shore. Time after time the Horde(Democrats) have broken their word and stand in the way of peace for Azeroth, almost always unprovoked and in an attempt to seek power to conquer Azeroth while claiming self defense. Now it's up to Anduin(Ben Shapiro) to save Azeroth from this communist Horde(Democrats) faction. Hillary Clinton (Sylvanas) knows her fate that awaits her, which is worse than death(prison). Will Anduin(Ben Shapiro) push back the Horde(Democrats) forces and win? Or will Hillary Clinton(Sylvanas) overcome Anduin(Ben Shapiro) and finally create a one world government with open portals that lets all the demons in to Azeroth. Anduin(Ben Shapiro) might have been King Varian Wrynn(Trumps) biggest critic, but he will succeed where Varian(Trump) couldn't. Make Azeroth great again! Join(vote) the Alliance(Republicans)! Oh and btw isn't it funny that the trolls(SJWs) who joined the Horde(Democrats) with an agreement to destroy the High Elves("racists") is now allies with Blood Elves(BLM) who are actually High Elves("racists") who just renamed? The Alliance(North) remembers. The Alliance(North) knows no king except the King in the Alliance(North) whose name is Wrynn(Stark). Okay I'm running out of creativity with this and I'm sure someone could come up with a better spoof but this is getting too long and taking too much brain power. ********** This is not meant to be offensive, it's meant to be silly and generate some playful laughs********** I am an Alliance player so obviously I used bias towards the Horde when creating this spoof, but it in no way reflects anything but a playful spoof. If you want to counter spoof please do, but stay playful and make it with a non-serious intention. The last thing I was intending to do is make people upset by feeling their political views are under attack, but the parallels were just too convenient to pass up. I also figured it would be good to lighten some tension between the Horde and Alliance by getting a laugh out of an obviously biased(by design) point of view from an Alliance player.
Dude...Ner'zhul was tricked by the Kil'Jaden and he did not become the warlock like that.He was the first real warchief and while he went on crusade against the Dranei (Vengance on Velen's people for refusing Sargeras' gift), the spirits and the elements abandoned him.....
I'm noticing a patter of stupidity in the horde. Every one is tricked or forced to do something to change something to kill some one, ITS AWESOME lol Also, good job i feel educated. :)
I just created a Tauren Druid few days ago, played to lvl 30, realized since cataclysm blizzard doesnt give a damn shit about the Lore. It doesnt offend me much that the Horde turned evil in some ways, but making a Tauren Druid using Nightelves Blood to corrupt the Forest and destroying a neutral Druid Vilage is just upperly retarded. I main Alliance since vanilla, and i always thought the Alliance sucks in some ways for beeing dicks to the Horde. However since i leveled a Horde Charackter first time i think Varian should have tried to dismantle the Horde after the Siege of Orgrimmar, those dudes are just plain evil. Especially Bloodhoof and Sylvanas, if you play a Tauren you can see what an obvious hypocrate the Tauren Leader is, he killed his enemy Grimtotem out of rage and states how infamous they were for trying to poison their lands, while doing the same thing with Nightelves. Such a person doesnt deserve any respect at all. And Sylvanas is obvious especially if you played a Worgen, she kinda got it right when she said that the only difference between the Forsaken and the Scourge is that the Forsaken serve the Horde.
This game died with Cata... from Vanilla to WotLK, it was incredible, now its corpse is just being tossed around like a cheap cash-cow from one expansion to the next. I wish they would have just let it die gracefully with Thrall back in charge of the Horde having crushed the prissy Alliance beneath his big green foot.
The blood elves is high elves who switched name to blood elves to honor all who died during the siege of Quel'thalas by the sourge during the third war.
@xin zhau me too bro, and I haven't played since WoTLk came out and even then I didn't play through the end game content like I did with vanilla and Burning Crusade(when I was in a top 25 US raiding guild and placed first in arena 5v5 one season, third another, and broke 2300 every season I played with both my level 70/80s). I am starting to miss the game though and will probably come back after Christmas since I need a new computer and dont have cataclysm or mists of pandaria.
I'm gonna put it so you can easily understand it... Any possible advantage the Alliance might had, the Horde can easily counter it. Dalaran? The magisters at Quel'Thalas are way more powerful than them. And they have the goddamn Sunwell. Gnome technology? The goblins have a huge-ass cannon pointing at Stormwind. Tauren and trolls have deeper connections with nature than, say, Night Elves or draenei. Sylvanas' forces grow with each dead soldier from both sides.
Choose me, champions of the Horde! With my command, the thousand fallen hero of Scourge will aid the Horde with their war against the Alliance, and at last the world will be ours.. FOREVER! As long as you follow my orders, Garrosh Hellscream can not hide forever within the great metal walls of Orgrimmar, instead of he will thow himself at our mercy! What you say then, champion? You and your beloved Horde accept that kind offer from the Lich King himself, or stubbornly reject it?
The Blood Elves got everything they deserved when the scourge nearly drove them to extinction. Garathos treated them FAR better than they deserved too. Why you may ask? As stated in the video, The alliance went to BAT for Quel'Thalas in the Second war. Lordaeron lost FAR more troops than the High Elves did saving the Elven Nation. How do they repay this? By sitting on there asses and watching Lordaeron get sacked by the scourge. Then wondered why they were sneered at later?
which means after we finish garrosh hellscream, someone else, another raid, might emerge before the next calm, in that new raid, might be the great destruction and evil deathwings son was predicting when he said "we must end this war between the horde and the alliance now, we need the power of both factions combined to defeat this new evil." paraphrasing, but it sounds like jaina proudmoore (who had good standing with thrall) leads the horde alongside the alliance to defeat the new
*spoilers* after we defeat hellscream (who is possessed by a sha and greatly increases his power) who's the next leader of the horde? blizzard said "someone greatly unexpected" and jaina proudmoore comes back to help with the fight, vul'jin is involved. and remember how the thunderking came back? the trolls resurrected him by taking his body and bringing him back. think of all the possibilities the trolls could bring back. now, the next expansion is supposed to be 5.5-5.6 to 6.0 possibly.
chen, along with many other npcs yet to come you won't see till after 5.4 siege of orgrimmar have always been around, in the story and in the lore, also in warcraft. just think of it this way, deathwings son, the black prince, says there is a huge catastrophe coming to azeroth, bigger than any war, bigger than the struggle between the horde and the alliance. patch 5.4 is the siege of orgrimmar, where we all band together and defeat garrosh hellscream. *cough Spoilers incoming*
you barely mentioned the Sylvanas at all. You said how she defeneded Quel'thalas with her sister Alyeria in the Second Great War but when you introduce the Forsaken you don't even say who's the leader of the Forsaken. Sylvanas is a big part of the horde and is only breifly talked about later on and only when it related to Gerrosh. There's alot of Details to cover with Sylvanas and don't even scatch the surface.
some people just needa pick up a book once a while =) it's not as bad as people say, you will find the most in depth/interesting stories come from them, of all genres too including teh zombies (Day by Day Armageddon) And for the love of god reading does not barrier ''gettin a girl'' if it did would you really want that type of person anyways? mine doesn't read as much but she has bought me a few as a surprise from time to time =)
I'll not be surprised if he gets "corrupted" by sha. I mean I'm horde, and I've wanted him dead since he got hold of the horde, and I think its safe to say, he has pissed off the tauren who feel he cheated in combat with Cairne, he tried to have Vol'jin killed 3 times now, exiled the darkspear, he despises the blood elves, and threatened Lor'themar, that if he is traitorous to the horde like he was with the Alliance well yea, and lets face it forsaken are in it for themselves so yea....
This vid is great, but Kil'jaeden didn't really convince them to abandon Shamanism. He convinced the Orcs that the Draenai were out to kill them and had them go on a murdering spree, and so the elemental spirits abandoned the Shamans, leaving them powerless. Kil'jaeden then kindly offered to train them in a new magic that would not let them down and help them continue with their murdering spree, and such the Shamans became Warlocks.
Kil'Jaeden and others in the Burning Legion were originally Draenei. After they were corrupted the Draenei fled, eventually ending up on Draenor. Kil'Jaeden found them and corrupted the orcs with the soul purpose of destroying the Draenei. So after the Draenei were defeted the orcs were left to there own devices. Until Medivh.
but having generals that screw up is awesome. garrosh hellscrem is AWESOME, he trully represents what a orc is and he shows that there is still a burning desire for war in the horde! that is great, a true orc not like thrall. having leaders that never starts war or conflicts is boring and sucks! For the Horde!
that's not an argument. teaching "noobs" wrong is not right in any aspect, even if they're new. skipping some details would be excusable but straight out giving false info is inexcusable and a mistake (which should be corrected but tbh in this case it's not that big and i don't really care, i was just annoyed at all the drones upvoting your silly "excuse").
It was not pandas. It was a mix of things from dumbing down the game, making various parts to easy, and most of all the repetition from xpac to xpac. You level up then start the gear grind. New patch!? back to gear grinding. I still miss parts of the game such as the environment and size. I don't miss the treadmill effect.
Really good, but for new people it could get really confusing because you keep using different parts of names for the same person. You stick to just one (ex. either ogrim or doomhammer)
OK, so I never played Warcraft itself but I read all the books. I recall that the orcs first steps on Azeroth have been in the swamp land basically where they encountered a new species called Humans. It was due to an accident (two scared individuals meeting each other and fighting to death) that the Alliance raged war against those new creatures which in turn led to the horde winning and only then continuing forward!
i for one am glad it's taking a long time, there's just too much room for error, and like you said it's so expansive that there's a ton of amazing arcs to choose from. imagine if they picked something lame like "a standard 5 man group tries to tackle rfk" or "lets do something from the expansions"
Really enjoyed the video, though it's still not clear why the orc's at outlands hellfire penisuale were agressive to other orc's. Nor what & when the other "hordes" split off from the main horde. (see Fel horde per example) I'd love to see the v2 version of this video ;) Again well done sofar ;D
Jaina Proudmoore gets warchief, calling it now. the black prince, deathwings son mentions someone unexpected leading the horde, along side the alliance to defeat the new evil that is "bigger than the petty war of azeroth that rages between the horde and alliance"
Vol'jin will more than likely be the new War Chief, unless Baine Bloodhoof of the Tauren decides to step up to the plate as the leader of the Horde. It's more than likely that Thrall won't be showing his face around for a while. With the Fourth War coming closer to a start in MoP, that might be soon.
It's been very heavily implied that the next warchief will likely not be an orc, and with Vol'jin leading the revolution against Garrosh, it's safe to say that he will be the next warchief. Sylvanas and Baine seem barely involved, and will definitely not be chosen.
Thanks a lot. Don't know how long it will take me to find all these but I will certainly do it eventually. Is this also the correct order in which i should read them? Through search i found most people say the WotA trilogy should be read first (in terms of chronological order)
Thanks a lot. Don't know how long it will take me to gather all these books and read them but i'll certainly do it eventually. Is that order correct chronologically as well? through search i found most people say that the WotA trilogy should be read first. (in terms of chronological order)
This is why World of Warcraft is so freaking popular :DD The story and everything is so proudly awesome and if you play with horde or aliance u know that u can proudly say its name and contrinue being good as u want it to be. I still can proudly say, with my Blood Elf Paladin, FOR THE HORDE!!!
41:52 oh god I remember that it was hilarious, bodies all over ironforge and orgrimmar. Think Blizzard did that officially because of trolls who kited him all the way to Stormwind in vanilla. "lol BC is coming have some death -devs"
I think you missed that the Horde captured Alexstraza and enslaved the Red dragonflight. That was a HUGE part of the second war..... I am glad that you passively mentioned them later, though you forgot that they fought in the second war.
the 2 expansion packs that are PRESUMED to come, are Warlords of Draenor and The Dark Below. Warlords of Draenor representing Outland and the return of the Burning Legion, and The Dark Below to be including Nagas, the Faceless and N'zoth.
Seriously, can everyone understand that Garrosh was an O.G? He was a warchief from the old Horde. Just like Ogrim, Ner'Zul, etc. He wasn't that bad really, he just wanted the Horde to have all the glory it could have, no matter what he had to do.
I"ll say it again. He HAS been removed from power. A good take on justice. All criminals if not killed in their capture should stand trial for their crimes and then if deemed guilty by their peers should be given equal punishment compared to their crimes.
