When I first played Forbidden West I thought Fashav was going to go on to be a major character, considering how unique and detailed his story was, so it was a real shock when he died - I kept expecting to hear that he'd survived. I'm really glad I didn't decide to skip hearing his full story - I could easily have assumed that I'd get to catch up on it later.

I think since the beginning, he was always a carja prisoner that lived among the Tenakth for long enough to be able to talk for the two tribes. But it seems like it was too early for the Carja and the Tenakth to find true peace.
@VoodooV1

I take it this is a trope. In HZD, we had Vala and Bast. would have been great to get to know them better, especially Bast helping out in the end, but they are ripped away just as they get interesting. Same as Fashav. Super interesting character, too bad, he's gone.
@NoxaClimaxX
@NoxaClimaxX 2 года назад
Their deaths mean the death of potential. For Vala and Bast, it is the potential for Aloy to find her place among the Nora. For Fashav, it is the dream of establishing a bridge between the Carja and Tenakth.
@Phreemunny

Their deaths have real weight; the writers did an amazing job making them engaging characters very quickly, then ripping them away from us too soon. We are left mourning their lost potential as characters.

It's pretty cool how they were able to reference our old "friend" Ullia in Forbidden West. I was really confused on how she fit the Carja stereotype compared to all the other Tenakth, until I found Fashav's journal in the Memorial Grove. Now we know that she was just a crazy conservative. Good thing Aloy brought her down before she had a chance to join Regalla's Rebels.

I thought that too, but considering she did a considerable amount of travel and delving between ZD and FW, it's likely she saw the open water between games. A little bit of a cop out, as I would have liked a reaction from her too, but that's how I rationalise it.

@@MaxC_1 There's no saying she travelled in a straight line. We don't know where she explored between Zero Dawn and Varl finding her at the Far Zenith facility at the start of Forbidden West. I hope In the future we see avad continue fashav’s legacy. So after he gives the throne to someone else he is able to travel to the tenankth lands, learn about their culture and teach them him own, teach them to write and such to memorise their deeds, and be what fashav hoped he could be and be a bridge between the two tribes for peace. I feel like it would be the best development for avad, as he speaks about wanting peace and travelling the world, so him travelling to tenakth clan lands would let him travel and be a sign to the tenakth he’s serious about peace. And it would show the fighting side of avad as well, since he must be at least half decent at fighting to have helped in the liberation of meridian nd kill his father, so it would show us he’s more than a man of just talking and gifting.

I loved watching this after beating the game. I remember reading the entries from Fashav about asking for the trial by combat for his life, and being made a servant to the chief instead of being given his freedom and thought “Either you die or you have to become a slave? That’s so tribal and aggressive” and didn’t really think about it again and played through the game. Now watching this I get the full perspective; the Kulrut Fashav demanded participation in is specifically a trial to become one of the chief’s honored marshals. I wonder if Chief Hekarro wasn’t aware that Fashav didn’t know what he was asking for and thought “This Carja outlander would pledge his loyalty to me over death? Let’s see how this goes”. I thought it was an unfair situation at the time, but after playing the game and learning more about the Tenakth it makes perfect sense. Just like the Carja misinterpreting blood drinking and orphan taking, I formed my own incorrect assumption of how tribal the ways of the Tenakth were. Amazing

wherever I look, it just gets referred to as "the glitch" that just occurred and made the Chariot line behave as an independent entity. so your theory might not be too far-fetched. or else Elisabet was referring to Faro's choice in the OS having Black Quartz encryption, making it impossible to hack into the machines and fixing the glitch. so I'm super curious too

Oh, I wholeheartedly disagree. Him and Yarra are mostly as bad as each other, in different ways. When there's a water shortage, he tries to fix it, she tries to hide it. In typical Drakka fashion though, his attempt at intervention makes it worse. When a kid goes missing, Yarra panics and rushes off to find him, Drakka says to Aloy that he's only going to go look because he wants to be seen as a hero. At the end, Yarra comforts the kid, Drakka just tells him to brag to his friends about how Drakka killed the machines. And Drakka is such a liability in a fight. After hunting that Thunderjaw with him, I could have happily shot him. Difference between them is that Yarra knows she has flaws and can change. Drakka is an egotistical prick who thinks he is always right.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, been busy… and lazy. So, those are good theories, but it’s still not possible for the Emperor to be a warp god. He still wouldn’t have enough energy to survive. To put it into perspective, the chaos gods have never managed to manifest physically into the world. Not when the great Heresy tore the Imperium apart, not in the Eye of Terror, where the barrier between realms is at its thinnest. There’s still not enough energy. As for the Emperor creating Abrahamic religion… you’re half right. He did indeed create those religions, but he didn’t do it to give himself power. The worship of one measly planet wouldn’t be enough to even dent his energy requirements. Ya ever notice how Tzeentch’s demons look a lot like Thoth? Or how Khorne’s look like traditional demons? Welp, there’s a reason for that. Do to the nature of the Warp, a lot of ancient pagan religions were unknowingly worshiping the Chaos gods. Gods of war like Ares and Thor were simply aspects of Khorne, Athena and Thoth reflections of Tzeentch. The Emperor created religion to fight religion. If we had developed under the pagan cults of our ancestors, we’d have been open to corruption. By replacing these deities with a very simplistic, inhuman being that is the one and only true god, the Emperor created a faith that the gods of chaos could not draw power from.

@@addisonwelsh Nah, man, you responded quicker than I thought! You made it! ...Huh. 😅 That makes sense. It almost brings up the question of why he didn't keep it. Monotheism, that is. It still works, after all, even without his consent. I could even imagine Lorgar being around, happy to spread the word. Ah, Lorgar 😔 To be frank, I never quite made up my mind on whether or not the Gods of humanity ever had a chance to, well, be like the Eldar Gods. They are, after all, technically separate from the Chaos Gods, even though it would be pathetically easy for even one of the four to take over the operation and take them as minions. Great Game at work. The Chaos Gods technically take whichever form they please, so this is made even more confusing. Could they just inspire mythologies if they wanted? Did the Gods of humanity never exist? On the other hand, many people tend to say that it takes a very long while( millions) and alot more worshippers than those currently on Earth to get an actual God running, so there's that. The Chaos Gods, in some form or another, have been around long enough to soak it in, and their feeding is an exceedingly simple process. They've somehow become pure concepts, eidolons walking above even the realm of godhood itself by the definition of the Warp. All things related to their concept are their domain. There are no rivals for them, only children playing with big sticks,like Kaela Mensha Khaine. I wonder why that is? 🤔 I wonder who first worshipped them. The Chaos Gods, that is. Where did they get their names? Which race had the " honor" of playing into their hands? More importantly, though, we speak of the Emperor. Specifically, what's your idea of why he is an immortal giant with no apparent physical imperfections? Like I said, my main question is why he has both enough power to rival Chaos Gods and a perfect immortal frame. Was he born normally? I know the story about his uncle, indicating he was once normal( as much as you could be if you were a psyker), but I call BS. I still don't think he was normal.... Maybe it's just too hard to imagine 🤔. Here's the second piece of koo-koo theory I can remember: For some reason, people think he's an Old One. Or at least, the creation of one. I cannot say I've seen an actual Old One, but I had the impression they were cold-blooded lizards long gone by the time we were around. No. I don't think they influenced our ancestors. The War In Heaven was about 65 million years ago. That's a bit too distant to put a seed of " intelligence " in any of our ancestors.... So yeah, this one's probably off the table. Unless one of them survived and had unhealthy interest in hairless apes. More seriously- and stop me if you've heard this one before- What if the Emperor is what the Chaos Gods once were? Were they all merely grown in the Warp? Or is there some kind of process behind it? One requiring a living mind? Slaanesh looks suspiciously Aeldari 😏
@addisonwelsh
@addisonwelsh Год назад
@@alyseleem2692 Okay… again, we got a lot of stuff here that requires a lot of long answers. First, the reason why human gods could never be as powerful as chaos or Eldar gods, is because the Eldar gods are different from our own in a very significant way. They aren’t the result of ancient superstitions from when the ancient Eldar huddled around fires for warmth. The Eldar were the supposed “favored children” of the old ones, engineered and uplifted to fight in the war in heaven. Their knowledge of the Warp was astronomic, and much has been lost. They even knew how to create entities in the warp that other, lesser races would call gods. The Eldar deities are not the creation of a primitive race struggling to explain what they could not understand. They were constructs of a galaxy spanning empire with immense psychic power at their disposal. The Eldar created their gods to be tools, and created them in such a way that they would be separate from the influences of the chaos gods. That’s why the gods of old human myth will never match them. Our gods were created by children who could never comprehend what they were doing. The Eldar gods were hand crafted by master artisans of the Warp. As for the question of who originally worshipped the four chaos gods… no one. The chaos gods are embodiments of primordial forces: change, decay, excess, and violence. How precisely they gained the identities they do now is unknown, nor do we know where Tzeentch, Nurgle, and Khorne came from. We do know how Slaanesh came to be however. Slaanesh was what happens when a galaxy spanning empire of psychic individuals sinks into a lifestyle of decadence and excess so vile and extreme, that it gives birth to a being to embody such a concept. Slaanesh, prince of pleasure, chaos god of excess. Destroy of the Eldar empire, and creator of the Eye of Terror.
@alyseleem2692
@alyseleem2692 Год назад
@@addisonwelsh Well, that last part I know. The question I meant is the process under the surface. The Chaos Gods are apparently " born" and given names through being fed their concept until they become conscious, but still. The underlying process has some speculation. What makes them different? What makes Khorne the ultimate incarnation of war and not any other God? What makes them special? If they were indeed incarnations of universal concepts, then they could be said to be far above even the concept of Gods..... but then, they have names. Indicating identity. Origin, of some sort. Slaanesh supposedly means " She Who Thirsts" so it probably goes something like that, but still. Names like these apply even to human Gods! Anubis. Anpu. Decay. That does not deny that they are still considered their own individuals with a past, present and future mythology! So what does that mean for a Chaos God? Were they once normal Gods? Did they grow out of control, managing to spread their influence too far across too many races? 🤔 Before Slaanesh was born, there were cults among the Aeldari. Much like the Ynnari, they didn't worship what was, but what was to come. As if they knew their deity, had seen some lesser link to it like the Yncarne...... Or a miraculously powerful, mysterious being living since time immemorial? What I was thinking was: Was Slaanesh once an " Eldar" soul in the same way the Emperor was a " human " before turning into the receptacle of a universal concept? Or were they just the latter all along? The same question applies to the others, really. Were all of them once something....less obviously terrifying? Did they all begin at the expense of their apparent fellows? Were they literally born? After all, there were dozens of races wiped out in the War In Heaven they emerged from. They could've come from any one of them. And yeah, it embarrasses me that I forgot how the Eldar Gods were made specifically( Gods as appliances. Man), though it surprisingly lays a little more groundwork to this. The Eldar Gods, if I remember correctly, are suspected to not simply be constructs, but to have been built upon the souls of the Old Ones, though whether that means they used them as a literal basis or a template, I don't know. It makes sense, though. The ancient Eldar would have worshipped the Old Ones, as they were their creators. In other words,it seems one of the basic principles of making a truly powerful God is giving it an existing mental template of already immense power. Hence the Old Ones and the Eldar Gods. Think about it like this: Beginning with the War In Heaven, a cycle started. Every time, the wisest and most powerful members of a race would see a shared problem, and make a shared solution. They would cast a ritual, gathering their power each time to create a god embodying the end to their woes . To those who made Khorne, it was victory in the War In Heaven. To those who made Nurgle, it was the ability to accept despair. To those who made Tzeentch, it was the power to reject it. To those who made Slaanesh, it was to embrace desire and know nothing of emptiness. All of them would walk among them, learning,breathing, seething, unborn. Made to fix the world's problems. And so, they would lean and lean and lean into their power, feed it the wishes of those who made them, until there was nothing but power which ate them up amd spat them out reborn. All of them consumed their masters..... Except for one. Why? Because to those who made the Emperor, it was simply a light in the dark. ( Disclaimer: This whole thing is a theory. Everything is because canon couldn't and shouldn't make up it's mind about it,but still.)

@@alyseleem2692 Yeah, that’s kinda the problem with the 40K timeline for events that occurred between the War in Heaven and the Great Crusade. It just doesn’t make sense. There was no period in time for the other three chaos gods to be created, because the Eldar seized power as soon as the dust settled, and there wasn’t really anything that could challenge them… other than the Orks… but it’s the Orks. There’s also the problem of the Eldar empire and humanity. Supposedly, the Eldar dominated the galaxy as its sole superpower, and the other races were kept in… basically zoos. Confined to areas of space the Eldar couldn’t be bothered to conquer. Then Slaanesh happened, and the Eldar collapsed into what they are now… However, ancient humanity (can’t remember if what they were called was ever named) also supposedly had ancient, very powerful interstellar nation with holdings across the galaxy, before collapsing do to a result of warp storms making FTL suicide, Psyker’s becoming a thing and causing a whole bunch of trouble, and a machine uprising. Two-thirds of that sounds pretty Slaaneshi, but how could the old human nation have existed at the same time as the Eldar? Ancient humanity was pretty powerful if the arceotech the mechanicus keeps digging up is any indication. The Baneblade was once considered a light scout tank, titans were standard issue, and black hole weapons were apparently a thing. It just doesn’t make sense… but Games Workshop have never been overly concerned with continuity or keeping fans happy.

Gonna rant for a second, but, When a character who lives for only 5 minutes of the game is 10x more interesting the the main protagonist you know the main character sucks. Imo, Aloy fucking sucks (and no, it’s not because of her gender. Plenty of my favorite games have the main protag as a female I.e Berseria. Even if she was male with the same exact personality they would still suck) She’s not only VERY boring, but rude as hell too. Even when you pick the sympathetic option. Rather much have someone as Varl (or even Talanah) as the main protagonist. Far more interesting and they wouldn’t have the whole “I’m the chosen one so that automatically makes me the most important person ever” complex. At least not as bad.

It was supposed that Alloy has a neutral position about other tribes cultures. But they decided to make her aggressive and lonely, just because her burden.
