That’s a sweet loadout, good gear choices, and I really enjoyed your presentation. However, as a Wilderness First Responder myself, the only thing I would advise you to add would be a trauma kit consisting of a cravat, 6” Ace-type elastic bandage, and 1 or 2 packages of vacuum sealed compressed gauze. With everything together, the whole kit weighs about 6 oz and costs less than $20. I package all items together in a vacuum-seal bag. With just those 3 items you have: A. Always clean and dry bandages B. Elastic wrap for sprains C. Immobilization for a broken limb D. Pressure dressing (elastic bandage + gauze) E. Tourniquet and more. If you want to get fancy, you can add a Quick Clot type dressing and a SAM splint, but those are not as essential as the first 3 IMO. Remember that you’re working with firearms, knives, and sharp objects (rocks, broken tree limbs, etc) with a constant threat of mechanical injury. Be safe, have fun, and fill those tags!
Thanks for the video, is good to see what other guys are using. My kit is similar, I like to take a foam sitting pad for glassing and also gets used at camp. You have the baby wipes but don't forget the tp. 👍👍
Idaho is my happy place... I'm Born/raised in Oregon (another great place) but lately I've been spending all my free time on my property outside Cataldo up in N.Idaho.
Ive watched this vid 3 times in the last month! Planning on hunting F.C. this year, 2020, for deer in Nov. Should be rad. Great vid! Doing kinda the same thing. Spike out a little. 2 guys, should be awesome!
It was right around the 60 lb mark. We also have a video on how to properly pack a backpack which may help you out. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ht6-4fY_DkM.html
Useful gear list. There's probably a couple grand in gear there. But it will probably last a few years. Also if you do the math and let's say the meat is worth $4 a pound you only need to get one animal season to pay it off in 2 years lol This is my first year hunting and I'm trying to go frugal. I guess we'll see if it works out. It's not there's always next year to spend money!
That is a goHUNT Gunslicker rifle protective cover. You can see more details here: shop.gohunt.com/collections/gear/products/gohunt-gunslicker-rifle-protective-cover It works very well to keep everything out of your rifle barrel and also to protect your scope and action from getting water all over them.
I was wearing the Kuiu guide pants. They are very versatile and can be worn in a lot of different temps. I also packed my REI long underwear for the cooler mornings. But for the most part when I’m hiking around I like to just wear a softshell like the guide pants.
If you are going to put your bag, pad, and bivy in a sack it's going to have to be good sized, probably 25L. You might want to check out the Big Agnes Tech dry Bag, 32L which you can roll tight from the top..or the MR roll top 25L hauler.
We don’t have one yet for Lorenzo this year. But we have last years which is pretty similar. Here is the link: www.gohunt.com/read/skills/lorenzos-mid-september-backcountry-elk-hunting-gear-list#gs.wSc39dQ
Your no. 1 piece of equipment is your Garmin phone? I thought I was on a hunting channel.... Are you really going to tell your kid that when you take him on his first hunt? “Self-Reliance” by Emerson. I suggest you go read it.
I am more of a topo map and compass guy. Then again my old Marine scoutmaster wouldnt even let us bring tents on winter campouts, just tarp and rope and we had to build the shelters ourselves.
