I appreciate when people clearly state what needs improvement on a product. It's good for potential buyers as well as good info for the company that makes them.
Thanks Rick, it's been 4 years now, are you still happy with Lorax. I'm not really a tech guy, but I need to install some security. Are the new Lorax setups upgraded ? Have you looked at the new Costo Lorax setups ?
So, first off, good video. I noticed you flashed by the Arlo system. I've had Arlo wireless for almost 3 years. At first they were good. But as time went on they would fail to connect to my internet. I moved cameras around but they would ultimately not connect or not stay connected and yes I've upgraded my internet. Then this winter (I live in the midwest USA) the big bad snowstorm off 2022 hit. The only thing we got out of that storm was wind and cold. The temp dropped well below freezing down to 15 below. Guess what....yep the cameras wouldn't work at all. In a nutshell if you are thinking about Arlo... Do your homework. That's why I'm on Rick's page as well as others to find a different system.
I am currently awaiting my lorax system which is replacing my ezviz wifi nvr and cameras. My question is in regards to the security of the system from hackers? My ezviz system was hacked and cameras shut down. Thanks
Yeah I considered wireless cameras as well. However, the wireless cameras I tested only recorded 2 minutes at max and drained the battery real quick. Ended up getting the lorex so I can record 24/7. Your tutorial with the lorex software was really helpful!
Would I buy another Lorex System...NO 👎 I installed a Lorex NVR N882A63B(16 channel)along with 8 LNB9242B bullet cameras, with audio listen in. 6 months ago. One camera audio doesn't work. After changed camera channel and wire with known working camera. Made sure all settings are correct, rebooted several times...It's the camera. After FOUR calls to tech support they have not offered to replace the camera. Just more stalling and passing the buck! Now I get to wait for another call from tech support escalation. More BS. Will I buy another Lorex system NO!!!! Will I buy lorex cameras for the remaining 8 unused channels NO!!!. Lorex Support is worthless!
I just purchased Lorex 6 Camera 8 Channels from Cosco and your video encouraged me to go with brand and couple of reviews, your video is fantastic really likeit, thanks a lot.
You can change the lenses on all these lorex / dahua / hik cameras and get any zoom you want. It's all based on field of view. The default lens on a bullet cam is like 2.8mm. Takes 10 minutes or less to replace it with a narrower field of view (closer zoon). Maybe a couple screws to undo, remove old lens -- usually threadlockered in -- screw in new lens while it's hooked up and make sure it's focused. Then reassemble. New lense will run you
Probably the most informative point you should have brought to the attention of your viewers is 30 FPS (frames per second) vs the blurry 15 frames per second 4K systems >> junk systems being pawned off on the unsuspecting consumer. You can have all the 4K you want but "movement blur" reduces the footage to cheap dime store surveillance videos, worth nothing. 60 FPS would be twice that of 30 FPS giving added clarity per frame. I would have mentioned that in this review, to warn your viewer/buyers from purchasing 15 FPS systems, pushing Lorex into recognizing the necessity of... higher end 60 FPS systems. In my neighborhood, we are not only fighting the criminals but the cops who act ignorant to Felony Vandals claiming the video is not clear enough! In our videos we prove beyond a reasonable doubt, that the cops are RICO racketeering agents, allowing the criminals to get away >> stalking and harassing our information against their unlawful activity. Otherwise, it was a good video.
Hi Rick! You said just about everything I have been thinking about my lorex system. I bought mine thru Amazon with 6 cameras and I just added 2 more. So far I have caught 2 coyotes eating my neighbors cat (sad), a catalytic converter thief (driving a newer mercedes, believe it or not) and a drive by shooter from around the corner. Unfortunately because it was 1130 at night, all I could see of the shooters car was a red blur as he was flying past my house. When you have cameras the neighbors knock on the door asking if I saw anything. Then the police knocked on my door asking about the shooter. I also have ezviz wireless cameras as well as a wireless reolink that I mounted to a street sign hoping to catch license plates. The lorex system is the most reliable, the wireless systems are easier to place, but are prone to drop out or are late in activating. Anyone who would ask me what I would recommend, the lorex system would be my first response. Followed by, "get a doorbell camera." Most people don't look up at your cameras, but they all look down at the doorbell camera. Thanks for the video!
@@guadalupeceballos8176 You are welcome. Don't forget to purchase a doorbell camera. That camera will get a perfect picture of who is in front of your door and will get a picture of any package thieves. Burglars will also knock on your door to see if anyone is home and then break in thru the back of your house. A wired doorbell camera is always ON. A battery powered doorbell camera will take a second to turn on. By that time the thief has your package and you will only have a picture of the back of their head. Thanks!
@@QuincyKintay Hi. I use a Ezviz DB1 system. There are a dozen reviews of different models. Each will have their strengths and weaknesses. If your door is facing south, the camera could be blinded by the sun. If it is in a dark area and there is too much sun behind the person, you won't get a clear picture of the person. Take your time before choosing and look at the reviews. Hope that helps.
bunch of dummies on that block cant even back out of their own driveway lol I hate to see how they drive when they actually get on the road. scary stuff!
The biggest and best think about Lorex is that their system works both backward and forward. Meaning the tech can be older or new and Lorex has your back. If you have the BNC cable of the system, you can add wireless
Thanks for the feedback haus. I was pretty sure I'd pickup this system and this is the third video I watched on the subject and helped solidify my perspective. Cheers my man.
New subscriber here from Philadelphia Pa USA. I have the Lorex 4k system with 8 cameras wired package. I also bought the Lorex Pan & Tilt Indoor Security Camera, Wireless 2K WiFi Camera I love my system. The only issue I have is storage. I would like it to hold minimuqm one month. I'm looking into that now. Any suggestions.
L42481-4AA4-E Debating on getting 2-4 cameras. I need one for the front and back yard. Front of house faces north, south side gets back sun exposure. However, I live in MI and it gets -30F in the winter and no sun. I have outlets outside. Suggestions on a brand or brands that would work for my concerns. No lag between movements, leaves blowing creating false alerts, sunlight making the camera unable to see. New subscriber 🙏🇺🇲
I have a Lorex system with 4K cameras .... and am now replacing the entire system. Issues... poor video quality. The cameras just don't deliver. I don't care how you want to spec them. If the video quality isn't there they are worthless. The system software is counter intuitive and very clumsy. The cameras.... I have 7 and 4 have had to be replaced after a complete failures. The bottom line is that this is a feel good product for a brief amount of time that is simply, in the end, junk
I won't recommend this product, we found the unit would not initialize or run HDrive spent 60 minutes on phone and supplied info and now I have too redo it in another email.too ! and I have to ship it back and wait for them to confirm it was problematic ? bought at Costco and it' still costing me.
Hi Rick, you said everything. Great advice for new users. I work with Lorex for over 8yrs. Just one tip for system IP 4k I use Amcrest cameras. It work great with Lorex, and customers happy. Better zoom, better fish eye, and everyone with better microphone.
You get motion on any camera if a big bug lands on it. To the camera it looks like a large object moving. I have my cameras setup so that each one has a zone, and I know that if I get more than one notification chances are its a real person. If they pull into driveway ill get one, if they start walking to house another one goes, and if they get to door my doorbell and camera will go. By that time I know for sure its a person at door. Its a bit extreme but it works very well
This is a well made video by an excellent speaker. Rick does not bore and is refreshingly succinct in his dissertation. No dead air space or vanity; and no arrogance! Rick is straight to the point! I just had a six cam Lorex system professionally installed for $1400; system cost $400 at Costco. I am not at all pleased with it, but I have only had it a week and maybe I don’t understand how it works yet. Have not read instructions or called Lorex, but thought the installer would have been more helpful to teach me the ropes. I dislike the cams.there are lights only on some cams, but they are worthless anyway, and no voice. Cams are grainy. . Every cam must load Every time I want to see it. Videos are jerky. You could never make out detail. I really hate this system. It freezes up my phone at times- so if I saw someone in the yard I couldn’t call the cops anyway! Uggh!
thank you for the nice comment, sorry your having some issues with your system, call Lorex make sure you are setup properly, maybe some settings are not good yet. What system model did you get?
Have had mine for 3 years. Got a new phone and new Internet provider and it has never worked again. It asked for passwords that I have no clue what there asking for. It is by far the most complicated system I have ever used!
Hi Rick, i have a question, in case the thief enter the house stole everything and the nvr and is there possible way for playback what happen before the thief disconnect the nvr?
I use mine to monitor lawn conditions while at work. I'm even thinking of buying a few more cameras just for that. Worked great also for catching a hit and run driver who hit a car parked in front of my home. I was able to use the camera footage....and audio....to trace where the driver went. The next day we found his car parked a few blocks down....got pictures of the his license, the damage on his car, and called the police who watched the footage and immediately investigated the person and cited him for hit and run. Without the footage we would have had no idea what car to look for.
I get CONSTANT false alarms from my Lorex system. It basically blows up my phone ALL DAY AND NIGHT to the point where I have to turn off the notifications which defeats the entire purpose of getting notified.
One thing you didn't mention was playback. While a lot of people can set up alarm zones for our purposes we frequently find ourselves needing to search the video. An example was a delivery driver failing to follow instructions. Unfortunately we needed to manually search the video however it was very time consuming because it only has 8x ff. We also have a Swann NVR and it plays back at up to 120x ff. Big difference however the Swann cameras are far inferior in my opinion. That being said we have had 2 cameras fail in the 1 year that we've had the system.
You can highlight an area when looking at footage and it will show you anything that happened in that area. As an example say I had my car broken into. I could put a box around the car hit search and it will look for any motion in that box from the day.
It doesn’t affect it much because the footage is on your nvr which is part of your wired lan. When you go to the app say on your phone it connects to the nvr and sends the data over the internet. Same with notifications etc. so it’s only for short amount of time. It’s not constant
I'm a bit late to this party, but Lorex does now offer what they call Fusion NVRs that can connect both wired and wireless cameras (as well as other sensors) together all on the same system. You'd need to update your NVR, but you could probably keep your existing cameras. I've been looking into security cameras lately and the Lorex has my eye for sure.
@@RickvanderValk14 Hi Rick. SO new to this and wondering, is the Fusion any better, and if so, could you do a review, please? Thanks so much! Looking forward to more great content!
@@happyfamily3372 fusion has some additional things like the ability to integrate wireless to it like indoor cameras, door bell etc. I will do a review on it as well.
Is the system has 2 way audio in it? And how’s the audio quality? I’m having trouble with my Kasa system. The audio late and not clear, thinking to get something has better audio quality Thank you 🙏
I loved my Lorex NVR that I bought 6 years ago. I hate the new NVR that I bought to replace the it. No audio, ghosting, hate the fast forward. I hate everything about it. Going to save some funds to buy another brand and junk this one.
A big problem with the wireless cameras is that they stop working in extreme cold. Probably only an issue in Canada and some of the northern United States but if that’s where you live you want to primarily be looking at the wired systems
Quick question as far as the 2tb do you think it holds up storage and how is it doing currently? I have ring but it always deletes my footage especially if I miss a day of payment and it’s annoying since I would like to have my memories if god for bid something happens..!
I have a Lorex system & just like my old system I always purchase a 6 - 8 TB harddrive & swap out for the larger drive. It gives me about a month and a half of saved footage. All in all the system is good for me. This review was great thanx.
Really like the 4K video quality. Really don't like the fisheye lens and being wired. I need to put a camera in a tree outside the front door and for the driveway. My computer is on the other side of the house which makes running wires through the (low roof) attic a real problem. I have a mesh router so I'm fairly confident about signal quality over wifi.
Are you watching Lorex NVR on 4k TV or a computer monitor. I'm asking because my picture is a little bit better then a 80s gas station camera. Seems sharper on my phone.
Lorex 4K cameras are junk in less than a year I had four go bad they would not warranty the last one Costco is supposed to have a 2-year extended warranty they are also not honorable they wouldn't warranty it now im on 5th one going bad.
Lose the boom and the headphones. The only time you would need headphones is either to hear bumper music or a caller that you have brought into the mix. Get a lav mic and lower the camera; too much headroom; and lower your head. Don't do jump cuts... use quick dissolves; it's too jarring. Thanks for the review.
Their NVR's suck! We purchased a camera system for our church. The NVR only lasted 1 year and then failed. The unit was still under warranty so after a 2 hour phone call to Lorex Tech help We were able to obtain another NVR. 1 year later the NVR failed again. This time Lorex would not honor the warranty. The replacement NVR they sent did not have any warranty. There is also a definite language barrier with customer service. I will never purchase from lorex again!!!!!
I live in an apartment, so it makes it harder to install a system, because hard wiring cameras through walls is not an option. I went with a Reolink system that came with a DVR and Poe cameras. I use a combination of wired and Reolink wireless cameras to get the coverage I need. The wireless cameras will link up to the DVR and footage will be recorded on the DVR. The wireless cameras can also record to a micro-SD card so that is an added bonus. I went with a combination of both types of cameras, because I tried an all wi-fi camera system and it tends to bog down the wi-fi. It is now becoming more common for a thief to jamb the wi-fi systems of a house they are breaking into. Unfortunately, I have to use 3 DVRs because I use wired cameras in different areas that I can't connect to one DVR because I can't run wires through the wall. I can connect to all the DVRs at once through the Reolink app so I can monitor all the cameras. I use a 32-inch HD TV next to my regular TV to monitor the cameras. It is interesting to be watching TV, but if something catches my eye on the camera monitor, I can see what is going on. After a while of doing this, you can multitask watching TV and the camera monitor without realizing you are doing it. I also run 2 different routers for wi-fi. I run one router for security and home automation, and a separate router for everything else. If one router dies, I can transfer everything over to one router till I can replace the bad one. The best thing is, it is very reliable and except for a little maintenance I don't spend much time maintaining the system. I clean the camera lens when needed and format the hard drive and micro-SD cards every so often and that's about it.
My Lorex 4k worked 15 minutes then shut down.Lorex has absolutely terrible warranty. If you didn’t save the receipt it’s scrap. They also do not sale replacement parts.Only complete systems.
zoom cameras are expensive from any of these white lable security cam companies. weather proof will still have a premium straight from china. I dont think you will see one in a kit. kits are meant to get people started for a price that doesnt turn them away. As for wireless your system can probably do it already. you just need to buy a wireless access point and plug it in to one of your camera jacks. from what ive seen of the one at my work the NVR is just a router dhcp plus recorder. but at this point why not look at something like blue iris or shinobi software and a cheap used pc plus a large hdd. we've got the LNE9252Bs at my work. The cameras themselves are great. lowlight image is stunning. the cable coming out of the otherwise solid camera is garbage. 2/5 of the $130-150 units failed in 2 years. connectors corroded out. I chopped off the corroded rj45 jack and found wires so thin that if they cheeped out any more it would be wireless. The conductors are also stranded aluminum. I was able to restore them by taking a cat5e splice apart, desoldering the wire knifes/punch down parts, soldering the tiny aluminum wires to the board, then soldering cat 6 to the other side. I then put that back in the splice plastic case and shot it full of silicone. had they used proper gauge copper this woulda been 2min with out solder
So basically bullet cameras are crap!!! I wonder if they have been improved since this video was made; surely by now someone must be producing a product representative of the 21st century. Who in their right mind is going to buy a 200Mb hard drive for their computer; times have moved on. It seems the same cannot be said for camera manufacturers. If they have, please tell me where to find it.
they refuse to give support and to make things right there night cameras do NOT work at night the sales person sold me cameras that do not work at night and they refuse to trade them for ones that will work at night. just BEWARE OF WHAT YOU GET FROM THEM
Wireless isn’t as dependable and mine(Ring) froze up after a 10 seconds during a possible home invasion which I scared them off. My wifi router isn’t far from the camera but we also can’t get quality internet from a company like Comcast or AT&T. I’m buying wired now.
its amazing that you have to spend 500.00 and up for a damn security system to work .i guess thats good pocket money for some to actually answer a fone
Arlo Sucks, my cameras are maxed 100 on sound and motion activation, and these cameras missed people trying to break into my cars and kids toys stolen in front yard. all missed! over the past 5 years.
Guy you can get Wi-Fi extenders and then connect to a Poe switch the power of the cameras you know that's all you need to do and you have the ones down natural and external antenna and connect it to your existing Wireless which I'm pretty sure you can cuz they do make it outdoor one so it's not that hard
Anyone installing these, buy “Fish Tape” its a metal line that you fish through the area you want the camera installed so you can pull wires across the attic to the camera spot instead of walking through insulation or breaking drywall
I too bought the Arlo and returned it for the same reasons as you stated, bought the Lorex but the feature I liked about the Arlo is " Geo Fencing " whereas the notifications are shut off when you are connected to wifi. Which is nice because you don't have to remember to turn them on when leaving home.
Rick, thx for this video…. A breath of fresh air…what we consumers need !! Better the most of the reviews…uhh.. actually the new form of advertising, that you’re not sure to believe. Bravo
You can already cast to TV with Lorex or any other cam system with HDMI output as there are lots of HDMI transmitters and receivers. This tech has been around for several years already. You can usually pick up a transmitter and receiver set for about $30, but if you are already using the one HDMI line to a monitor somewhere, you will need an HDMI splitter as well to add more HDMI outs.
Yes they have improved quite a bit. My whole wish you could have wireless and wired together scenario is now true thanks to Fusion NVRS they sell, they have also added a lot of new devices to the ecosystem like door bells, wireless cameras, lights, sensors etc. Was there one thing in mind you wanted to know?
@@RickvanderValk14 Yes. I'm looking at model NC4K4F-164, 8 cameras for my home. It has audio-in, but I can't tell if it has audio-out, and Lorex chat hasn't answered. That being said, how's their cust. svc.? Is 4T enough memory in your opinion? Did you get the junction boxes for under the eaves? Thanks
@@WHYBS I looked couldnt tell either on the audio out. I have had pretty good luck with customer service. They have an 800# and have always resolved whatever issue I have had. 4TB for 8 cameras should give you about a weeks worth of footage. For me that is plenty since i can review footage from remote..If I was away on vacation for more than a week if i saw something happen on the app i can locally record it to my phone...I did not get junction boxes see this link for my install ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5HeZjHEQt3g.html&ab_channel=RickvanderValk . Also if you click link on my video it links to current deals at lorex which may help you. Good luck hope you like it.
@@WHYBS oh ya one last thing, the system you are getting is not the fusion brand so keep that in mind if you hoped to install any wireless stuff down the road. With fusion you can have both wired and wireless cameras record to the NVR. Without it you can still see wired and wireless on your Lorex Cloud app on your phone but your wireless devices will record locally to a microsd card on board of the device like a doorbell for example. With fusion you can record to both the doorbell local but also the NVR. the benefit there is if somebody stole the doorbell I would still be able to see footage on NVR. Tradeoffs...Your system has 30FPS which is a bonus and also great low light cameras. Really depends what the use case for you.
