LYRICS: Part 1
Captivate me
Become my escape
I can’t look away
You were my everything
If the past is just dust
Then the future could be our dream
If all we have is now; this eternity
Ignite my satisfaction
Engulf me
We’re dancing like flames flickering in the night
We sway in time with the wind before melting away
You’re far from my reach but not far out of sight
You know the way to my heart but you just play
the strings again
Flicker like shadows dancing beyond the flame
Captivate, hypnotized
By the fire in her eyes
You took me by surprise
And then you disappeared in the blink of an eye
Pull me into the pyre
Engulf me in flames
Captivate me
Eidolon
Gravity
Magnetic
Pull me toward my ecstasy
Flicker like shadows dancing beyond the flames
Enchanting, mesmerized
Take what is left of my life
A wrinkle in time
Where do you go
A wrinkle in time
Take what is left of my life
Before you go show me what it‘s like
to finally know
The face behind the silhouette in this world I made
to be infinite
But within the expanse - I finally see
A world without you isn’t meant for me
Where do you go when I close my eyes
What do you see looking back at me
Am I just a ghost just like you caught between the
seams of two intertwining melodies
LYRICS: Part 2
I’ll disappear
It’s like the world I knew keeps passing unlike
the void I’ve become
Picking up pieces left from another life
This fleeting memory is everything you left behind
I’m just a whisper, just a spector
locked away in time
This purgatory is eating away at my mind
Left to wander
Left to dissipate
After you I will never be the same
Left to confide; insecurity
When you disappeared
You took a part of me
I see you over and over far beyond me
I’m drifting away
Even inside a dream, this world has no meaning
And after all that I’ve done
After all of my pain
After all that I’ve become
Will I disappear
Like a ghost in the breeze
Like fading memories
Like the world you left was only just a dream
So I’ll disappear
It‘s like the world I knew keeps passing
unlike the void I’ve become
Letting go of perfection, another lie
This wretched melody is everything you left to die
I’m just a vacuum, just a fragment-
An echo in time
This purgatory is eating away everything
Left to suffer
Left without your place
Without you I will never be the same
Let me see you one more time
When you disappeared, you took a part of me
All after all that I’ve done
After all of my pain
This fucking world disintegrates
LYRICS: Part 3
Cursed by this apparition
Destined to take its place
A ceaseless existence born of my dream state
Manifested and pressed into sand
You’ve long been cemented
Distracted, impacted by the weight of the world
If this is everything then
I don‘t want to cut the swathe
Let the flames rise and bury me within this fog,
An echo, a murmur -
A broken melody
I let go of my life but you were just a dream
I’ll throw myself into the fire and burn away
Ridding this flesh of burden and pray I suffocate
I’ll salt the earth in this crimson blaze
This world will burn in my fall from grace
Witness the death of God
Hear the devil‘s choir as I leave the stage
in a sea of fire
If this is all I am then what’s the point
of pacing life
Everything that I made became a waste of time
Expressive, depressive
I‘m caught up in a lie
Decisive, enticive
I’d rather fucking die
I’ll damn this world to a sea of flames
Forsake the ground and let it bury me
You were nothing but a shackle
Now I can breathe
Let this fire rain down and bury me in a sea of flame
Forsake the ground the let it bury me
Let this fire rain down and damn this world
Fuck this existence
Bring me back to where it all began in the fall
Wake me up before i lose it all
This is my epilog - my soliloquy
Take this broken melody straight to the grave
Dancing like flames
After all that I’ve done
I’ll salt the earth and disappear in a sea of fire

If you were to edit the footage together, cutting out the end bumpers and stitch exactly where the next track begins it flows perfectly as if conjoined CD tracks smoothly transitioning into each other like a human centipede of music. Now THERE'S a mental image I wish I hadn't conjured. Whoops, too late now. Now others have to experience the discomfort of the simile. @@Wagwanfam69

Just a note: Each video depicts different elements, water, snow, and fire. At the end of the 3rd song, the same orchestral melody that started the trilogy, finished the trilogy, and at the end, he ties all three song names into one. Dancing like flames after all I’ve done, I’ll salt the earth and disappear in a sea of fire. Destructively beautifully written

it's brilliant on so many levels. This trilogy is one of the most important things to happen to heavy metal; indeed music at large, in years. That's just my opinion but I'm pretty sure a lot of people would agree with that statement.

Do you know that it is snow and not ashes that is supposed to be the second one? Part I and III both have flames in it and the red thread in the song is the burning. I am not really sure where the snow comes in. I am bot saying you are wrong however for me it makes more sence if the particles falling in part II is ashes. Would have been really interesting to hear the band talk about it.

I lost my wife 2 years ago, cancer, a long struggle, after which emptiness, loneliness, anger, depression and indifference, I have been listening to Lorna Shore for a long time, I love this band and deathcore, but how this trilogy hit me right in my heart, I could spend hours lie on the floor and just cry, screaming into the darkness, for me - this is more than just songs, this is exactly what has been going on in my soul all these years, there were several suicide attempts before, now only music saves me from the last step into the abyss.

Metal has something that I would say other genres do not have, especially when dealing with emotional subjects like this. The ability to express the pure rage that can be bubbling below the surface of someone who is heart broken or dealing with a loss like this. What I think makes it unique as well is they do not paint it as something wrong or evil but something human and reasonable.

In this masterpiece of modern art, Lorna Shore captures what it's like to feel grief in the most beautiful way possible. The first part features rain, symbolizing the torrential downpour of overwhelming emotions we experience as we watch a loved one's life fade away. This video, like life, ends abruptly and without warning. Part 2 features snow, symbolizing the cold numbness of the depression that loss brings. Part 3 features fire. This symbolizes the blazing fury at the unfairness of life and loss. This piece is perfect in every way from sound design and directing, to the acting, to the poetry of the lyrics, to musicianship, to the instrument-like quality of Will's vocal performance. There is an underlying melody that plays throughout each of the three parts and ties them all together. This is one of the most incredible pieces of music I have ever witnessed. Also, the guitar solos are particularly incredible because the guitarist, Adam, was the primary writer of this trilogy's lyrics and based much of it on personal experience. You can hear his own pain as he plays.

Absolutely phenomenal reaction Ken. Thank you for watching these. It is worth knowing the full story from the album. According to Will it is the story of a man so dissuaded by the waking world that he decided to create an entire world within his dreams. That world within it included a person. As he lives out the dream it begins falling apart, and the trilogy is the dream crumbling around our protagonist. This is why the word "dream" is seen multiple times throughout the lyrics. In this song in particular "f*** this existence, bring me back to where it all began in the fall, wake me up before I lose it all" calling back to the first song on the album "welcome back o' sleeping dreamer" which if you read that song it is the protagonist essentially creating his dream world. This entire album is absolutely worth hearing particularly if you delve into the lyrics. Thanks again Ken for pushing through this set of videos. The trilogy really is the hardest part of the album to stomach, meanwhile the rest of the album really is truly just as phenomenal as the trilogy. My recommendation for your next song from Lorna Shore would have to be "Into the Earth"! Stay strong my man!

THIS. The way the first song ended so abruptly and you had that moment of shock and went "...wait...It's not supposed to end like that..." The abrupt ending was meant to mirror how our loved ones can just leave our lives so suddenly; and we just sit there stunned, saying "...wait...It's not supposed to end like that..." Christ their story telling and decision making with this EP was phenomenal.

As a huge Lorna Shore fan these songs have had a huge positive mental health impact for me, really made me appreciate that life is fragile and that loved ones would never wanna see us harm ourselves for them and we should be grateful for their lives. For those unaware, the video trilogy basically show the process of grieving. PR1 is the death itself, they were "dancing like flames" in bliss and happiness. PR2 is the thought that his wife meant everything and he feels meaningless without her so he feels like he'll "disappear". PR3 is the rock bottom stage, his grievance has basically overtaken his thought process and now wants to end it all in a "sea of fire" by burning the memories and himself

I have listened to all three songs about 30 times and every time it feels like a punch in the gut and I can’t help but well up with tears. I had the chance to see them live shortly after the album came out, and it was an incredible experience to see them perform this song live. All mosh pits had stopped, it was nothing but people crying, cheering, and holding up lighters/flashlights. You can hear live especially the emotion coming from Will. After the final lyrics you could see Will a little misty eyed, as well as Adam. It was this weird dichotomy of everyone being both somber from hearing such an emotional song, and being so excited just to be there and see a great band perform

I heard that parents are supposed to prepare you for life without them, mine did the opposite. So again thanks for the words, it truly means the world, mister Ken, a big hug from Argentina.

This had to be the most emotional reaction I’ve ever seen for this trilogy and how you’re describing everything so poetically truly adds to this powerful story. Thank you because it’s definitely helping me to get through because I myself suffered a number of losses and thought suicide would relieve all that pain. But in all honesty it would just cause more than we would ever know. So to hear those words “ the world is better with you in it “ really makes me feel better about myself in so many ways. Thank you… truthfully from the bottom of my heart thank you.

The entire Pain Remains album flows together so well to lead up to this point but the trilogy flows so perfectly that if you listen to all 3 at once its more like one long song. This trilogy seriously gets me every time and is such a heart-wrenching story. There was an interview with Will Ramos (vocalist) where he said the pain remains trilogy was written by guitarist Adam De Micco during a really difficult, emotional time in his life.

My cousin took his life when he was 14, my father didn't even let me go to his funeral. The pain of having my only friend at the time just become a memory with no reason and no goodbye. Being 12 at the time it made one of the largest impacts I could ever imagine. And even though I did and still am going through this pain, what did he feel that was so dark, and cold that he just had to go? Thoughts like this and the guilt of what could I have done to prevent this just completely captivate my mind and keep me from sleeping most nights. Lorna Shore and various other bands capture the turmoil and anger so well that it gives me a place to put my anger so I can stop myself from lashing. I will forever be thankful to these bands for this, and thank you for the reaction to such a song. I hope things go your way.

They glide so well together while being very different. The first one ending on. " Am I just a ghost just like you, caught between the Seams of two intertwining melodies? " Leading into the second song, where hope is gone, and he might be alive, but living like a ghost, the second song is the time between melodies. So the ending of the first song leads to the expressions of the second. And then to the 3 where it about getting past the empty space between melodies. Where he is no longer a ghost just acting, but the emotions he is feeling is acting through him. Pain, anger, everything. The attempt in the second part was the uncontrolled action, the lack of everything. While the choice in the 3 was made with and understanding what he felt his life had become. Ending the trilogy with the words " Dancing like flames, after all that I've done I'll salt the earth and disappear in a sea of fire " Dancing like Flames being part 1 All that I've done being part 2 In a Sea of fire being part 3 And the 3 also bind the first part into it again, after the half part of the song, with the sort of breakdown, the melody and flow goes through some of the same waves we heard in the first song- ending with the bells and string actually playing through the same notes, but it start before that leading up to it. So both the story and the music is brought back together at the end. And even the music video that is telling the story plays into this, but with the band. They play in the same location. In the first one it rains, its a storm, the storm of loss, not knowing what to do or think, its all just chaos. Part 2 has snow. You are no longer in shock, the chaos have gone away. But all it has left is a cold feeling of emptiness, there is nothing. everything is frozen solid, like every thing ended in a second, time stand still. and life can not move on. Part 3, when there is flames, and its not for anger. its about ending. Fire burns away life, but it also leave something new to grow. He does not do what he does out of the blue, he have said his goodbye, and are ready for what comes next. And he burns away the rest of him in this life. Like he says in the first " A life without you is not meant for me " so with fire he erase himself, instead of spending a life frozen and stuck in time. Same way life starts and end the same place, in all forms. no matter the start or the end. You never know where you start. And when you are at the end, it does not really matter. It was the choices and feelings between the melodies you experiences along the way that guided you to what ever end you had. The two things in life that does not matter to you, is the start, and the ending. because you are not there to deal with them or experience them. Yet it is those two things that mean the most when all is said and done. Because what ever you did with your life, those you loved, and those you hurt is all because your life started. And your actions in between the melodies is what you will be remembered for.

Few genres really capture the rage and desperation and emotional storm of intense grief like this death metal can do. The way they have the ending of the first song trail off to just soft music and him whispering and then how it builds in intensity as she dies is really a unique way of having a song portray the emotions of a moment like that. It doesn't matter what mood I was in at the beginning of the song, when that part hits, I at minimum have a massive lump in my throat. Very moving song and video.

This trilogy hits much closer to home than I would've ever imagined when I first heard it. I lost my wife on the 13th of this month. It was a rather sudden departure as well so there was no planning or anything in place. I got home from work and she was just lying on the bed unresponsive, I called emergency services and she went to the hospital where she apparently was diagnosed with pneumonia, next day, massive stroke and cardiac arrest. I had to watch her life be snuffed out as I held her in her final moments. I'll never be the same after that . I would never wish that experience on my worst enemy. She died exactly 1 week before her birthday and a little over a month before our 15th wedding anniversary... I'm just lost now.

i feel like part of why this trilogy is so successful is because it came out towards the end of the pandemic. so many people died and countless people got suffered losing a loved one and many couldn´t even say good bye. and this music perfectly reflects the pain and rage people feel now. it provides such great catharsis. i think 5 years ago this wouldn´t have hit nearly as hard. just my 2 cents.

If we learn to appreciate what we have while we have it, health, relationships or whatever, it will be a little bit less painful to let go when the time comes. And the time to let go will always come. So make sure to tell your loved ones that you love them, forgive each other while you can, take the time to stop and smell the flowers and enjoy life. Because life is a long serie of goodbyes.

People don't realize how truly important this is, we treat mental health like people are defective, and this starts to paint the beautiful real picture that truly is affected by it, and I'm laughing my ass off that all the judgemental jackasses have to swallow the pill that the source of this is a death core song. The way this was constructed was absolutely perfect, it's supposed to hurt, of course he's screaming, he's in the most agonizing moments of his life, I think this might be the most important 20 minutes of musical history.

Insomnium - The Grooves of Death saved me. Pain Remains dug up some pain for sure, but everytime we break we can rebuild. The lyrics that changed me was "In these lowly halls No moon will beam, no sun will shine In these narrow rooms No tears are seen, no laughter heard" A reminder that there will be nothing, and you wont see the disasterous grief that you leave behind. The world is truely a better place with you in it.

I'm only half way through watching your commentary so far but I needed to let you know how much I appreciate and respect you for putting yourself through this exhausting experience. By now I've seen and heard the trilogy a few times, so I no longer have that "gut punch" moment when you first realise what's happening and what the song, the story and the message are all about, but I remember it all too well. I hope it didn't affect you for too long after it was over. What I appreciate most about the way the band handled this musical triptych is that while dealing with some *super intense* subjects, neither the lyrics nor the video are gratuitous, they don't revel in the misery for the sake of it in the way a lot of other bands might, but deliver it "as is". In fact the lyrics are, as you've already pointed out at this stage, beautifully written and effortlessly relatable. I personally feel this is the true art Lorna Shore have created here, the fact that as you've also said this event happens every day around the world, but the band lifts you from your reality and places you firmly in the mind of the protagonist, experiencing the turmoil and agony of his emotions in real time. Despite how dark it is, I personally find a level of comfort in this kind of media. You get to live this excruciating experience vicariously through the songs and the videos, to taste the sheer horror of loss, but then return back to your own reality safe in the knowledge it hasn't actually happened. It lets you see how your life could be so much worse, and makes you grateful for the circumstances and people you have and not take them for granted. Watch, listen, experience, process. Be grateful for the small things. Hug your family, whoever that may be in your world and never waste a moment because we only get so many. Memento mori.

"Every day people experience loss and for them its the end of the world". Architects song "Doomsday" touches on this as well. The song was written in part by the bands drummer, about the death of his twin brother and guitarist after a battle with cancer. A tweet from Dan explains the chorus: "After Tom passed away I had recurring dreams where he was alive and I would ask him how it was possible. He couldn’t explain it but he assured me that he was alive and well. The Doomsday line is in reference to waking from those dreams. I still dream of him all the time. " So, unrelated to this specific song, but you saying that line made me think of another really powerful song about loss, and about feeling like its the end of the world.
