Your finish is very shiny! What do you use? I haven't been that successful at getting a high gloss finish. I've tried non-yellowing spray from craft stores, but even those listed as high gloss don't get that level of shine! I've also tried water based polyurethane from the paint store, but it's very difficult to apply evenly. Tips?

There are so many different varnishes that are used, but it's important to remember that we should use only oil based varnish. The water base varnishes will wash away the dyes. Spray varnishes: Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating, Rust-oleum 2x Ultra Cover Gloss Clear. Other varnishes: 1 Shot Acrylic Clear 4005, Golden Varnishes MSA Varnish with UVLS Gloss #7730-6, KBS Clear Diamond Finish Minwax Wipe-on Poly with Polyurethane protection Clear Gloss. Remember to read instructions on containers. I normally do 2-3 applications.

Thanks for all your great and helpful videos. I'm just learning. In an earlier video you dye yellow, orange, back wash, green, back wash red then black. Why don't you go yellow, orange, red, back wash, green then black so you don't have to back wash twice?
@LorriePopow

Thank you for watching my videos. Many times I want to put my green before I put red or orange so I back wash. I try to show that if you want to start with a darker color you can always wash back and dye a lighter color. There is no right or wrong way in which order you go with the dyes. However, there will be times you want to put green leaves before you add the pink, orange, red, yellow, or white flowers. In the past we were told you can only go white, yellow, orange, red, black, and if you wanted blue or green you would put it on with either a toothpick or qtip. Since then we have learned we can start with a black dyed egg, wash it back and go from light to dark and dark to light colors. It's fun learning and seeing that we can do so much more with our designs now that we don't have to go from the lightest to the darkest colors. And, another great thing is that if we have forgotten a spot we can wash back and redye to make corrections. Keep in mind there is no right or wrong way, just the way each artist chooses to work.

Wow! Thanks for your quick reply. I guess it's a matter or experimenting and preference. I do like the back washing better than the orange wash technique. The orange wash really didn't remove my green very well but a washing with Ivory then a 50/50 water vinegar bath worked very well. Your eggs are absolutely amazing.

I wonder if anyone makes these specific Easter eggs to tell the legend of the easter eggs in children's litergy?

There's Rechenka's Eggs by Patricia Polacco, and I'm sure there are others.

@@LorriePopow I must confess I don’t know that one, but I am familiar with the godly play legend of the Easter eggs (American episcopalian priest by training and author, Jerome Berryman). They take a Bible story from the crucifixion and cleverly mix it with the tradition of Easter eggs from Eastern Europe and they use Ukrainian Easter eggs in their resources. The story is very clever and very deep how it’s done. And that’s how I came onto RU-vid channels to learn about how to make them to have my own resources.
