These really are first rate and superb bang for buck - I have used them in both Army, PSD, Maritime Security and Oil/Gas field roles, plus given them away to local guard and police forces we have trained. With a NATO strap change they look really good, with a little care you can also get 10-plus years out of them (as opposed to a Timex which you'll be lucky to have after 5). They are robust and rather long lasting, quality Japanese quartz movement, and you can normally get through at least two battery changes if you treat them with a bit of respect, plus the lume is superb. In fact all the Lorus 'imitation military' watches are well-made and are one of the few times a 'copy' has outshone the 'original'. Everyone raves about CWC watches etc from the good old days, but in reality you are paying through the nose for a fairly basic quartz job with mediocre specs. Credit to Lorus here!
I love that you always cover a very wide range of watches although I did miss the sound effects oh and great strap show It's about time for a quick mod on of these bad boys ya think like your not busy enough ha!ha! Thanks Mate 👍
the beauty of lumed dials is also during daylight hours it makes the dial look creamy white and with extra sharp contrast ( I got a Q&Q full lume and it actually in daylight shifts like a chameleon between all shades of white.. probably emeraldgreen but in the eye perception white. )
Beautiful watch, love the simplicity, and it just ticks all the boxes. For me, the day-date addition will be useful. I don't mind that it breaks up the aesthetic - it's just so highly practical
Yep... This watch was my workplace watch and my camping watch for years..So light and comfortable on the wrist....I too would recommend without hesitation...Great review...
I have Casio’s and Citizens, absolutely love em, but I’d love to use Lorus as daily wear in a truck driving role. Love the lume, day date feature, simplicity, ruggedness, and field watch style. Was considering a resin Bertucci, so I’ll probably get both and swap them every now and then for a little variety while working on the job and saving for a Rolex Submariner and Omega Speedy. I think I’ll get one for my father as a work watch as well.
Just bought this from Argos. Fitted a black steel bracelet with curved ends. It looks absolutely brilliant. It’s not lost or gained one second in just under a week and as you say the Lume is unbelievable.
I purchased this watch for £29,99 from Argos a few months ago and it really is a very good watch for the money. Some retailers are selling this for around £50 so it pays look around for this excellent field watch. I have had the Lorus Titanium field watch for 2 years now and paid £69,99 for it from a Seiko retailer and since then have purchased the military green version. They too are excellent value for money watches and I wear them a lot as an instructor in the RAF Air Cadets.and they are well worth the price. They both come on a green canvas strap which so far are holding up well. I have put the watch you have shown on a nice leather strap. Great review and thanks for posting this video.
Going to pick one up for my son. Hes been wanting his first real (analog) watch. Let him play with a bunch of straps and enjoy. Thanks so much for another fun review. Cheers.
Great review! I've seen instances of this watch under two model names with the same photo, do they have a version with snap on case back or the screw back case? I think one is slightly thicker too, still quite thin, I prefer the screw back case 👍 Lorus RXF41AX7 - 37mm by 8mm - Snap on case back - 100 meters Lorus RJ655AX9 - 37mm by 9mm - Screw back case - 100 meters
I bought one of these from Argos more than 20 years ago, for the same price. I'm pretty sure that mine only has a snap on back though, I'll have to dig it out to check. I'm amazed they are still around!
Bought mine from Argos today for £29.99 and was the version with the screwdown back and the drilled lugs, which I wanted. The Lumibrite is fantastic. Very happy. 😀 this is going to be my 'tough play' watch to go with my great Casio Duro which is my perfect everyday office watch.
Just found a gold coloured one of these in a local park. Still works fine, lumibrite works fine as well. Gave it a clean, it all looks good. Just needs a strap. Might hold on to this little find
I have a Timex Expedition Scout which is good. But I ordered this one because of the day/date (which would have made the Scout perfect), steel case, screw on back and 100meters. Cool.
I picked mine up earlier this year for only £19(.99), slapped a NATO i had on it and it is just brilliant, great review as well, I think we sometimes forget that a watch should do it's job and not just be a piece of art sometimes
Great review. Persuaded me to take the plunge and buy one of these. Would love to see how you get on with the sapphire mod if you go that way. Also went for one of your blue hybrid straps for one of my other watches. Thanks.
Just got one of these from Argos natch and already really like it it’s a spec monster for £30 and very lite horrid strap though like a toy watch so nato ordered asap can’t wait for it to arrive great video too
I've had these for years and have several 1 destroyed others stopped workng stuck dials ect if your interested straps last very well and is my favourite watch
I've got one of these, also from Argos, also switched onto a new strap (grey NATO). It's such a fun little watch. The lume is obscene! I wear it at night when I'm reading in bed and it's so bright you could read by it (but probably don't because you'll wreck your eyes eventually). Great video, thanks.
It's amazing really. I still have my titanium version which I put sapphire in. Great watches. Rubicon watches have just got in an exclusive version just for them in titanium with a green dial!
Thanks James. Its one of those watches one wold presume people wouldn't be that interested in any more. But I am realising its like the Casio Duro, more than the sum of its parts and has somewhat of a cult following!
Solid watch, I have one for hard use and dirty jobs. Whether it's painting, plastering, digging holes or anything else it's just a nice slim and light field watch which I don't have to worry about. Crown guards are great, it wears small, reads easy and keeps -2s per month. Sadly the second hand/dial alignment is almost exactly 0.5s off so about as bad as it can be in my example.
I completely missed this review because I’ve been on vacation. What a nice little watch. I will have to check Amazon Canada or a local department store. Cheers.
Thinking of getting one of these for my 8 year old as his first watch, the lume is a cool feature, the day display will be helpful for him, and the 24 hour markings are useful to learn too.
@@watchmewithwatches Thanks, I think so too. Managed to pick one up for £30 :) Thanks for listing the measurements, it was very helpful. Wondering whether to pair it with a rubber strap for him.
@@howard2501 well, if you do decide on a rubber strap, my silicone tropics (available in 18mm) are reasonably short, so should fit him nicely. If no luck, I have 60 day return policy! Regards, Dan.
I have this watch too....and i totally agree...it's phenomenal value...wears great, looks great with the bead blasted look...accurate, great like, ultra slim. It's the ultimate field watch under £200 surely?!
Awesome little watch, best bang to buck field watch without a doubt. I've sold mine, but will definitely buy it again, it a shame not to have it in the collection for that price.
I love the lume on this watch, its very accurate being a Seiko and its still dead cheap- £30 at Argos. Getting the back off is not so easy to replace the battery unless you have a removal tool, but thats not a major problem if you can find a shop that can repair watches
If you have or if you can find and purchase from a store a pair of needle nose pliers with fine tips on them. Then just separate to the desired width and turn counter clockwise to remove the back. Works great. 😊
I put mine on a black nato, the one supplied was a bit prickley the nato makes it look bigger as it stands off the wrist a bit more, like it a new daily wearer
Excellent watch these are, I have many watches within my collection but I wear one of these on a daily basis as they are so comfortable and great at night as the lume glows like a beacon making telling the time so easy and it’s without a doubt the best lume on a watch I have ever come by. But take my word for it, if your in the military this watch is definitely not the watch for you if your in the field on active duty as this will definitely give your position away, so a bit of advice from a British army veteran.
I am ex military and I agree it would give your position away. I have this watch myself but I have also got two of the Lorus Titanium field watches which are really awesome and perfect for military use as only the hands have slight lume. So comfortable to wear and very accurate. The Titanium watches only have a small date window which is useful. There are two versions one with a cream dial and the other in military green and both come on green canvas straps.Exceĺent value for money at £69.99 if you are lucky enough to get hold of one.
This has so much going for it - great design, great Lume, quartz, great water resistance - BUT....just FAR too small for most. It'll look like a child's watch on my 7.5" wrist. If they did one in a 41 or 42mm case size, I would have got one ages ago.
I picked up one of these to replace my aging Timex Expedition with only 50m WR. I like the day/date. I lose track of days easily and the day window tells me if the farm supply store is open. I live on a small homestead and I need something that will survive daily use and this guy seems to fit the bill. I haven't worn it daily yet because my old Timex is still working mostly, but when it does finally die, I can see this Lorus taking over easily. Oh, and functional crown guards are a requirement for me and this baby's got 'em. Why is that so hard to find in a "field" watch?
Is the day wheel in English I got one last week from Argos but had to return it coz some of the days are in another language I think it is the months but I’m not sure I don’t understand the language and can’t find anything about it online
What's your wrist size? I'd be interested in any similar Lorus that is 40mm or more. Also, can you add an overlay on one side listing all the specs at once, while you are talking? That way those who want the info at a glance can get it immediately.
Great review, of a great little watch. At that price that really is a bargain, and it really is everything you need in a watch. I'll be checking out that fkm strap in a moment :)
I bought one from Argos a few months ago, just about the same price,it's really awesome they can make a watch this good for that money😂 it's shames a few companies. I took the stock strap off because it was a little harsh on wrist and put on an archer in a little bit better grey in my opinion but wow value for money 🤯 I love that waffle/ tropic strap on it😃 what colours are available? Great value and great content as always 🙂👍
Thanks Dan, just got a bollocking cos im supposed to be in the garden, not watching you watching watches, well just one more video then ill do the weeding
A pity this one seems to be for the UK market. Only for a premium everywhere else. Of course not dramatic at those prices but global brands splitting up even the European market is still irritating in the 2021.
The EU is run by b*******. I got a watch from Russia and was hammered with VAT, a handling charge which was double the VAT, and more VAT on the handling charge. People here are getting fed up with this extortion.
Nice little field watch and because it's so flat it's actually wearable on a nato strap. Nonetheless I prefer two piece straps which brings me to the hybrid tropi-waffle, great looking strap! 👌
Mine is still going strong after 7 years. But the strap needs replacing - anyone know where I can get an identical design strap? (I.E. a SIGNLE STRAP that just slips through the pins and runs on the back of the watch - NOT A NATO STYLE STRAP EXACTLY - as they tend to have extra buckles and so on)
They have discontinued them now and the replacement one the lume is just on the hands and it sucks They seem to be going up in price. I have two one never used in box with the battery removed. Out of a small collection of watches it is the one I use the most takes the knocks and keeps on going keeps excellent time. As far as I am concerned all watches should have the same lume. So, get them while they are still available Argos still have some. But a source who works there told me when they are gone, they are gone
Great question! The real question is which USP is ones favourite? Full lume dial, or titanium? Well, I think Ive just had a mod idea... Can we have both?....
I enjoy mine, bonkers for the money....putting sapphire into this would be a good way to practice....got me to thinking my friend....I think the only thing that lets it down is the hands, they look and probably are plastic, that said for the price it's still a no brainer....highly recommended....🏴⌚🏴⌚
@@watchmewithwatches the value blows my mind, the strap isn't the most comfortable but it'll more than do the job for a beater....plus I prefer to choose my own straps ensuring the budget goes into the watch....I have taken the phylida off the cherry strap you sent, love it....🏴⌚🏴⌚
Been looking for one of these to go on sale for a while - gonna sapphire it like yours - Argos won the waiting game! Was looking for a titanium one too perhaps to Frankenstein them, the titanium doesn't have a lume dial, right?
That's right, the titanium has a lovely cream dial, and well lumed hands, but when a full lume dial is available, why not?! Im itching to do this mod now!
These and the titanium one are ridiculous value for money, and very tempting (both, lol). Perfect gift watch as well. Nice that the good Seiko stuff like the lume and design are used here. Great review as usual.
Anyone know where I can pick up or order one of these Lorus watches at this bargain price? I’m in New York & often see I have to order from abroad at 2x sometimes 3x the price. For that price I rather pick up a Timex w/ Indiglo (cheaper) or an expensive SNK809. Thanks!
@@watchmewithwatches Unfortunately Lorus watches are hard to find in the USA. From what I have read on some post it seems all of North America. I have seen this Lumibrite sold online. But after shipping & taxes I can never find one at this bargain price.
Great review - this has been on my list to get around the holidays. I believe another name for this is Alba ... both of course subsidiaries of Seiko. They also make a Titanium version. Also has a nice Seiko snk800 series look to it.
My friend had it for 2 years before me as he bought it whilst on holiday in America, and they weren't available in the UK at the time, I was told these early ones lume was dangerous!
There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding the watch shown on the video and the one in the Argos link. The former appears to be the lorus rj655ax9 with drilled lugs; the latter being the rxf41ax7 with solid lugs and smaller diameter.
@@watchmewithwatches Hi Dan. Decided to go to Argos and buy the watch. I can confirm that their listing is wrong, both the photo and the dimensions quoted. The watch I received did have the drilled lugs and larger diameter than listed. For anyone wishing to purchase this watch from Argos, I can confirm that the model number is RJ655AX-9. The watch is indeed all that you said it was. Thanks Dan
2:40 When they can put this much lume on a watch for this price, doesn't it make you wonder why Paganini etc cheap outnon luming the hands and numbers on their watches?
Just pick this for £19.99 on offer from Argos I have got lots of different watches sum expensive but for the price it looks a million dollars has you said the strap is to small for the average mans wrist hopefully I will be able to see the time in bed with out putting my glasses on
Check out my mod video of how to do the titanium version. You need the exact measurements of the standard crystal. If its the same as the titanium one, the link to that crystal is in the video description
