I was 15 in '86 and after coming to L.A. from NY in '77, my years from '82-'88 were the best of my life. If I could go back to the 80's I'd be going one way, so I'm really rooting for that end of life Black Mirror technology from the San Juniper episode!
That's got to be around July of 1986. The movie Running Scared, show playing on a marquee, was released June 27th of that year. I remember this time very well. I played guitar in a lot of metal bands at this time, into the very early 90s. Played all those clubs, Gazzari's, The Roxy, Whiskey, Coconut Teaszer, and many more all over L.A. Very different times than today.
I'm from 1992, but...i wish i had a time machine, to live in those times 70's and 80's, i honestly feel that i'm living in the wrong era. Thanks for the upload my friend.
@Thefunkeemonkee yes.. it was bad in the late 80s early 90s.. gangs were everywhere, now they are throwing down their bad looks on social media. . Thank god.. But opioids will turn this place into a real life hell on earth
Amazing. More than 30 years ago, and it looks pretty much the same as today. Except no SUVs (just vans). And no one had a cell phone or high-res digital camera in their pocket. We had no Internet, no Facebook or Twitter or any of that crap. You called people on the phone if they were home, and if not, went out and found them outside. People talked to each other in person. Good days.
That's why I fell in love with L.A. It's not just the beauty. I'm from The Bay Area, so I'm not floored by a palm tree. But the fact that it's like stepping into a time machine. Downtown is incredible. Don't listen to the locals.... It's amazing.
beakt not really. It was dingy and kinda red might district with more Guns N’ Roses types on bikes. Lot less illicit sex workers and homeless ( I know!!!) everything was a lot cheaper.
I was born in L.A. in the mid 80s and raised in there. I was too young to experience Hollywood during this time. Now it's a bunch of tourists, restaurants, bars, retail stores, smoke shops and police everywhere. I heard Hollywood was dangerous and seedy during the 80s. Hookers, drug dealers, criminals and junkies walking about. It's cleaned up a lot since, but it's become a bougie with it's expensive bars and restaurants and a lot of tourists walk around taking selfies and group photos. In becoming a lot safer to walk around, it seems it also became more boring.
Footage is from 1986. You can tell from the marquee on the Vogue Theater showing the movie "Running Scared" at 0:40. Also "Top Gun" at the Hollywood Theater at 1:14.
I was born in 83 so I kinda remember the tail end of this in late 80s/early 90s my dad hauling me around in a station wagon around LA. I would give anything to go back to this period as an adult.. without a cell phone... Without social media... Without misinformation. And just walk the streets, mingle with people. Meet friends at a pre determined time and place.
@@flukyreview9128 he didn’t even say anything that makes him a snowflake or a lazy millennial. If anything you’re the snowflake because you’re getting mad just seeing someone type a comment about how they wish they went back to the 80’s (without technology mind you) and he just happens to be a millennial born in 1983 when you probably wouldn’t have called him a snowflake if he was a gen x born in 1979.
Yes for sure. You see the Hollywood & Highland huge white elephant statues in some of the footage as well. That complex wasn't built til late 90's and didnt even open til early 2000's (I lived in Hollywood from 1996-2008). But I love seeing all this old footage from my neighborhood. Especially the stuff from the 60s, 70s and 80s! So fun👍Be well friend.
I was born in '83 but still got memories from that decade. Family trips, playing outdoor. There was no internet, FB, instagram, smartphones and people spent time with each other. Our neighbors often came over to ate and drank...
'83 Here as well. We were pretty much the last generation to grow up without the mass tech - invasion (even though it was starting back then). My sibling was born in the '90s and that generation is so different already. Not everything back then was better for sure, but social interaction mostly was. It felt more real. Now people are just buried in their phones even at gatherings. And living the moment in the best angle for Instagram. Can't get used to it. 😅
@@MrCooper83 it made me wonder what it must have been like being Hispanic, or White born in Los Angeles at the beginning of the 1980s, and growing up (in Los Angeles) throughout the 1980s, and 1990s!
The first few seconds is exactly what I mean and think of when I say 1980s. The vibe is just unbeatable. And that banger song in the background. This is the most 80s video ever.
0:50-0:56 is not footage from the 80s. It's mid 2000s or later. Hollywood and Highland complex? You can see the Sephora store and big white elephant statues in the left part of the screen.
This was the Hollywood I remember... so full of character. You can't even recognize Hollywood anymore with the disgusting new buildings and sparkling sidewalks... disgusting to tell the truth lol. The old snooker building on Hollywood and Western is now gone. Seeing the neons for Hollytron just sparked a memory.
FRIEND OF MINE WAS THERE FROM CONNECTICUT LIVED IN SAN DIEGO CONDO HE WAS THERE IN 80S WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER PLACE IS A PIG STY MIGRANTS AND DRUGS BUILDING ARE LIKE GRAFITTI NOW HES BACK IN CT NOW HORRIBLE NOW
Top 👍
i lived in La West Hollywood they called it in 1986 lived it and experienced it pretty different than now in 2022 great dance clubs and lots of things going on
I remember in the 80s how absolutely filthy Hollywood was ,my uncle lived there in a pretty scary neighborhood ,in which they stole his TV and Van constantly.
02:20 I remember the World theater from the mid-70's when I lived in Hollywood. Back then it was $1 for 3 full featured movies--I saw "Blacula" there! Can't get better than that!
@@LannieLord I remember seeing "Theater of Blood" there. That's on RU-vid now. Plus the run of the mill Russ Meyer and Roger Corman grindhouse films. All third/fourth run movies LOL. I could never watch all 3--usually left after the second one. Did you go there too?
Is this guy a time traveler ?at :53 there is a Sephora store in bottom left corner.... according to Wikipedia the first Sephora store in the US opened in 1998....in New York City...
@@Cyrus992 It's very simple since the 70s, HPS (High Pressure Sodium) lamps appeared. They are more economical than Mercury lamps that appeared in the 30s/40s, so they gradually became widespread over the following decades and ended up completely replacing Mercury lamps, with a much higher light intensity at an equal Watt power, which allows the use of HPS lamps with a lower Watt power. for example a 100w HPS lamp has a higher light intensity than a 250w Mercury,, the same for a 250w HPS lamp compared to a 400w Mercury.
Does anyone remember back in the 80s to 90s there used to be a guy who would stand on Hollywood Blvd in his tiny underwear with ladies only written on his leg?
A world within a world...you just time traveled and guess what you didn't even have to get up from your chair... Unfiltered, festered with rock and roll, sex, drugs!
I am born in 1994 but i wish i have experienced 80ties and 90ties people were actually friendly and joksters and plain simple ,today you have to be carefull of what you said it is like we arent living free anymore.
@@RickTBL i think that was edited in . but alot of the other footage did seem to be in 80s because of the way the females clothes and hair styles looked .
This is definitely a jumble of stock footage clips from about 1985ish to about 2002ish. Not all 80s, but that's no biggie. Just shows how the more things change, the more they stay the same.
