CORRECTION: The Descend Mechanic specifies that it triggers if a, "permanent card," goes to your graveyard, and even though Tokens count as, "permanents," they are technically not, "cards," so Map Tokens and Treasure Tokens will not trigger Descending. I messed this up in the video, so I am glad someone pointed this out to me! None of the card evaluations change significantly, but Enterprising Scallywag is not going to give you a free Descend trigger every turn as I initially thought.

@@viktoryegorov2721 they did that with the term card. this is basically described in the rule 108 which concludes this: `Card: The standard component of the game. Magic cards may be traditional or nontraditional. Tokens aren't considered cards. In the text of spells or abilities, the term "card" is used only to refer to a card that's not on the battlefield or on the stack, such as a creature card in a player's hand. See rule 108, "Cards."`.

I guess it's worth reminding that map tokens DO NOT work directly with Descend (contrary to what is stated in the video), as the ability specifies "permanent CARD" and tokens are not cards. (of course, they still work towards Descend by allowing you to put cards in the graveyard using the Explore ability)

I'm gonna try and cherish this draft: the last one to utilize the old draft boosters. With how awesome the cards are in this set, I think we're ending an era of set draft on a high note. The feeling is quite surreal...

Fun fact, but Rivals of Ixalan was also the last, "small set," they made. After the Rivals of Ixalan Draft format (with 2 Rivals of Ixalan packs and 1 Ixalan pack), they started making just big sets, so this is the second time that the plane of Ixalan has been involved in, "the end of an era." Ixalan is an awesome plane, and I love that it has a lasting legacy in MTG history!

@@NicolaiBolas BRUH... With the exception of Innistrad Midnight Hunt and Crimson Vow, I totally forgot the original Ixalan block was the last small set. I'm starting to think if some crazy new way of doing things comes up, Ixalan is right there :/ Anyway, I've loved your draft guides for a while and can't wait to head into my LGS for this set. @@HabitualJokerso draft and set boosters are going away. They get combined into one play booster Wich you can play with. Draft is NOT going away. It's getting more expensive and sets will have more rares and uncommon s from now on.

Thanks for the video! Draft guides and color archetypes are my fav content of limited magic. I am a bit afraid that this set might not be for me since it seems it has a really graveyard/sacrifice/mill theme around it? I am just not very good at playing with the graveyard so I hope there is some aome alternative i can get around.

I'm so glad you enjoyed my guide! There are always a variety of strategies in Limited so I don't think you should worry, but this could also be a good chance for you to practice managing your graveyard so you can improve and have more fun with those sorts of decks!

Thanks for the video, Nicolai. With the archetypes, it seemed like you mostly focused on payoffs. I would also be interested in hearing what you think the best enablers are for the different archetypes, as I think I'm probably not as good as I could be at recognising whether an archetype has good enough enablers to make it worthwhile. #FoundCaverns

I'm glad you liked the video! You are right that I often focus on the best payoffs for an archetype because those are the cards that will often be steering you towards that color pair. If I can't find good payoffs for a certain strategy, it often means that I need to rethink what that color pair is doing so I can present a cohesive gameplan that is actually worth going for. Also, if you're looking for enablers, in many cases the good commons will be glue pieces that fit into multiple archetypes effectively. For example, any deck that cares about filling the graveyard with permanents loves having Dead Weight because it is a kill spell that also triggers Descend, so in that sense it could be considered an, "enabler."

I think it's important to mention that I don't think the colors are particularly far apart, so depending on playstyle differences or archetype preference the colors can move around for different players. It's mostly useful as a tiebreaker for close picks.

The color ranking is not super important, since it is more of a tiebreaker than anything. In almost every set the colors are relatively evenly matched, and finding the open color is almost always better than fighting for one that isn't open. Also, I've ranked Blue highly in color rankings plenty of times.

Questions: Abyssal Gorestalker - "When it enters the battlefield, each player sacrifices two creatures" I can't cast it unless I have two creatures to sacrifice?

You can cast it, but if you have no other creatures you'll have to sacrifice the Gorestalker to its own ability.

Sealed is similar enough to Draft that I think it works for both! The archetypes will be less focused and the games will be a little slower, but generally the good cards are still good across both formats and the archetypes are still doing the same things.

If you dont have 2 creatures when Abyssal Gorestalker enter the battlefield, do you still have to sacrifice it?

You sacrifice as many as possible, so you will have to sacrifice the Gorestalker to itself even if you don't have a second creature.

So what exactly is draft? Im returning VIA mtg arena on mobile causs too busy for table top, i played EDH and modern but never played standard. How do you actually find out how to effectively build a competing deck without knowing about cards or buying a million packs?
