Lost F1 Circuit Nivelles Baulers 2022 - What's left of the abandoned race track?
In this Circuits of the past video we show you what's left of the abandoned race track of Nivelles in Belgium in 2022. We explore the lost track by car and by foot.
About the Nivelles Circuit
The Nivelles-Baulers circuit opened it’s doors in 1971 as a safer alternative for Spa-Francorchamps. During it’s short excistence it hosted the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix twice, in 1972 and 1974. Both races were won by Emerson Fittipaldi.
However, after a lot of financial trouble the Nivelles circuit closed it’s doors in 1981. After the closure it was used for illegal racing.
In 1998, Herman Liesemeijer - the founder of the Circuits of the past website and RU-vid channel - visited the abandoned Nivelles circuit for the first time. He was just in time before the demolition started a year later.
His visits to the abandoned Nivelles circuit inspired Herman to start a website about lost race tracks in 2003. The name… Circuits of the past!
Today the old Nivelles circuit is a business park with the public road follows parts of the old track. Untill 2020 there was also a section of the track left for nature.
However, during his 2020 visit, Herman saw a lot of activity on the remained section. They are were clearing the remains of the old racing circuit in order to add this part to the business park. In 2022 Herman visited Nivelles again and explored what's left of the track...
