Yes, it was a very controversial reconstruction. Every time I post something about old Hockenheim I see many emotional reactions. That's why I put old Hockenheim at number one.

Circuits of the past - emotional reactions? You mean like incurable anger & unyielding contempt? Yeah, that would be me. My enthusiasm for Grand Prix racing was red-flagged indefinitely due to (in no particular order): 1) technology's disastrous influence on the sport; starting with the paddle-shifters introduced by Ferrari in 1989. 2) the customary "Handbags At Dawn" headlines. When Alan Jones & Nelson Piquet launched their feud in late 1980, it was a brief exception, NOT the malignant rule for F1 "entertainment." If I wanted to watch (or hear about) soap operas, I would turn the channel to Days Of Our Lives. 3) Team Orders Gone Wild. See "2002 Austrian GP, final laps." And last but certainly not the least... 4) Hockenheimring. I will repeat it again, since that word above and the value of its meaning needed to be reflected alone for a moment... Hockenheimring... years ago when that word appeared on air or in text, it represented something far more than the circuit where Jim Clark was killed; it was a name associated with the respectable fraternity of Monza, Spa, Silverstone, Paul Richard, Österreichring, and any other circuits I may have failed to mention. It was after all, another remarkable cathedral of speed. Now it's merely a shadow of what it once was. And represents everything that has gone wrong in F1 for the last 20 years or so. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have attended Hockenheim (1988) as my one and only experience to witness gladiators of speed. For that I am grateful. For the unforgettable memories of sight & sound. And for the ignorance I had then concerning any possible notion of its demise. Thank you for remembering Hockenheimring by posting this footage.

Hostage Negotiation App hockenhiem was like refurbishment of the palace of Westminster but demolition the clock tower in the process, who ever was involved in any way should be ashamed of themselves, either for being involved in the sacrilege or for failing on an immeasurable scale to save hockenhiem. spa was a shame to but that was understandable, hockenhiem was disgraced by the new layout. it would be like holding the le mans 24 on the bugatti circuit, circuit de la sarthe is the unique bit.

Ironically, Tilke first had a plan to preserve the old track. Unfortunately they did something else in the end, and we know the result.

Dude, Black Forest is maybe 100km south of Hockenheim ;P

The forest is called the Reilinger Wald, not the Schwarzwald.

Don't kill me, but I personally like the new layout, so may I ask (apart from the spite that destroying the old circuit has generated) what do you believe is wrong with the new layout? So I know. Also, I also believe it would've been better to keep the old layout... It's painful to see a former circuit ruined or destroyed... Side note: In Mendoza, Argentina, we had a circuit (Autódromo General San Martín) that was part of the touring car calendar, and it's currently abandoned and ruined, and it hurts to watch that...

@@MindlessMegaLawl For me the old layout was a blow off track, fast, easy, flooring the shit out of the car driving just for fun. The new layout looks and feels like a bad remix of a song for me.

If I find someone who can make good maps for me I will ad them in my future videos. I got that question more times so I will do something with it in the future.

Just google ">circuit name< layout / map", and chances are that you will find something. I found the layout of Crystal Palace that way. If all else fails, you could just use a screenshot from google earth. And there's a feature where you can look through historical pictures.

But you may not use that. It's copyrighted material. I use my own material and only from others if I have permission.

Agree. The main problem was that it never get it's full length. The so called Big Loop was a great section with fast corners. Unfortunately Nivelles went into history as a boring circuit. PS: Do you know my article about Nivelles? www.circuitsofthepast.nl/en-US/nivelles

Many people miss old Hockenheim. Maybe if they unite and spend money they can buy the track and rebuilt it. And to compensate the 15 year old trees, the Tilke track should be demolished to plant new trees :)

They built a new track around the motodrome and the old track disappeared between the green and trees of the Hockenheim forest.

Old Hockenheim was a good alternation on the calendar. Now it's an average circuit.

The Curitiba circuit has not yet closed. The mayor of São Paulo, João Dória intends to privatize the Autodromo of Interlagos, but to date there is no further information. In Brazil, there are few circuits that receive any attention from public authorities or entrepreneurs. These are: International Circuit of the city of Cascavel state of Paraná, Autódromo Velo Cittá in Mogi Guaçu in the state of São Paulo, Circuito dos Cristais in Curvelo in the state of Minas Gerais, the Velo Park Circuit in Nova Santa Rita and the Autodromo de Santa Cruz do Sul, both in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Since most of the race tracks only receive improvements and maintenance when it receives the main category of the country, the Stock Car. The others that were not mentioned or are abandoned or there is insufficient information on the conservation of the same.

Yes that made old Hockenheim special. It was not the most technical track, but it was a good alternation on the calendar because it was such an exceptional circuit.

Mark Hughes - the battles were epic indeed. I always get strung out watching the 1980 GP w/Alan Jones in the lone FW07 chasing down the Renault turbos on the long straights, during the opening stages of the race... great cars - great drivers - great circuit.

That's really a sad situation... Fortunately some circuits are coming back next season like Magny Cours and the Turkey GP... And the German GP also! On this new and boring track, but it's coming back! Better than nothing!

Next year it will be not Magny-cours but Le Castellet Paul-Ricard

Yes Magny-Cours was not the most beloved F1 circuit. However, it's still there. Just saw it on TV during motorcycle races. It still looks like it was on the last F1 GP.

Im going to france next year for a holiday so i will be going to le mans and magny cours and now ill have to find some time to travel upto reims after seeing this video!

Attended the GP there from 1992 to 1998. Went to Castallet in 1978, too. The one they haven't mentioned is Rouen.

I don't like the Tilke circuits either. They look too much the same, too many slow corners and most fast corners are easy flat-out and followed by another slow corner. However, I read Tilke actually want to modernize the old Hockenheim track. With larger run-ofs and a wider track. But no changes to the layout. But the circuit bosses want a compact track for the public. So he designed a go-kart track. The Glen is on my to-do-list when I visit the East Coast of the USA. I hope to do that within a few years.

I think that you will like this day trip. You can drive the original road course (self guided), drive the current course (I think it cost 25 dollars...plan ahead) and visit the museum in the town of WG (plan ahead). Road signs are also nice to find (they are depicted as 'vintage' race cars). As a side note, Elmira, NY, was the site of early soaring (engineless flight) and there is a soaring museum in the area. Corning Glass Works is also fascinating.

Yes, both circuits lost their fastest section. However, Zandvoort is still a challenging track to drive. While Hockenheim is just an average track now.

In 1999, 4 years before I started the 1st version of the website "Circuits of the past", I was in Portugal. I visited the Estoril track and the seaside resort Cascais. Years later I discovered there was a street circuit in Cascais.

Not all drivers loved old Hockenheim. There were many drivers who found it boring. However, it was not the most challenging circuit but it was a very unique track. And good for the alternation on the F1 calendar. Now the circuits look too much the same.

Brooklands doen't belong in this top 10 because it's not an F1 circuit. It closed in 1939 and F1 started in 1950... However, recentely I visited Brooklands for the first time. You can expect a lot of footage of it in a couple of weeks, and in the future.

Most people will think the old Nürburgring was the longest F1 circuit. But it was the forgotten circuit of Pescara.

But the Galvez still exists, it hosts the TC and TC2000 every year, alongside other national categories

A return of Zandvoort on the F1 calendar will be catastrophic for the layout. I prefer to keep our great track without F1, rather that a GP on a screwed track.

I visited old (and new) Brno in 2010. Untfortunately I have only photos of it. Next time I visit California I will visit it. What about the Poznan circuit? I heard they want to close the track and built an amusement park on the site.

Poznan circuit is still active, and now it is the only track in Poland where competition racing can take place. Problem of Poznan track is that there is dispute on ground ownership. It was not settled formally in 1970s when track was build. Now there is dispute between city, Automobile Club, army and ... descendands of pre-war owners of this area... Who knows how it will end...
