I have worked retail jobs on that day(not at Wal-Mart), and sometimes I wonder how I made it through the day(lol). Believe me, if I don't have to be up and out there on that day, I'll stay safely home in bed.
His scream was used for a monster roar in the episode where Will went to Scotland and encountered the ghost. It was the roar of Angus, the creature in the lake. Listen closely and you will recognize his scream, electronically altered.
@@Dallas_K - I think one of the funniest Dr.Smith lines of all was in the Season 3 episode "Space Destructors" where he creates an army of cyborgs, all of which look exactly like him. After his diabolical scheme is crushed, he says in a humbled and sorrowful sort of way, "What a frightful mess I've made of things. And all I wanted to do was rule the universe".
This scene and the first season of "Lost in Space" will always be badass to me. That is John Williams original score for the show in the mix. He was in his early 20s when he scored this show going by the name of Johnny Williams. The most underrated soundtrack in history.
Scared hell out of my little 6 year-old self watching this back in the day. Fact that it was in black and white probably helped hide the zippers on the monsters skin.
@@kennyfordham6208 I was 6 in the last 📺 season in which this sitcom was on prime time. There was a Dr. Smith at the local 🏥 in my area, and I didn't want to go to him because I was afraid he might be the Dr. Smith on 📺, 😆.
Brian Lawton, The budget was hardly limited. The pilot, in fact, was the most expensive ever, up to that point in TV history. Although, it seems to rather remarkably have no definitive and officially verifiable reason, it's quite likely that part of why the show was cancelled, was that CBS wanted to pare back the still hefty production costs, which Allen was trying, at a minimum, to hold the line on, at the 3rd season's level.
That thing that appears at the end had me so freaked out as a kid. I simply couldn't get my mind to wrap around what I was seeing. Of course watching it on a 12 inch black and white with rabbit ears over a UHF station in the 70s certainly didnt help. The first season felt like the Twilight Zone, then the second season was trying to compete with Batman, and finally the 3rd season tried but failed to be a little more like Star Trek with a different planet every week. Oh well. I loved the show for it's hardware and the cast was excellent but the writing was a joke.
Season One is unforgettable.. Even in B&W it surpasses the camp humour that soon followed (in order to keep up with Batman etc). I wish it had stayed on point with Series One.. it was epic and I loved it.
I loved this show as a kid (still do) but even as a kid I could tell that they kept repeating the monsters as they were escaping. I could also recognize them from other episodes. I always liked these black and white episodes much better than the color, by the time Lost in Space went color they had “jumped the shark”. Some of those color episodes were really bad. Remember the giant talking carrot🥕 ? Even as a kid I really disliked that episode.
there are many articles about how, after a great S1, the show found itself competing against the silliness and flash of Batman in that time slot. So S2 especially got much more campy. Even down to the purple, yellow and light green in all their wardrobes. Yes, that Carrot man episode is the go to episode cited for this silliness, and is in S3, but there are some real redeeming eps still to be found in S3, despite that one. S2 is the worst of them, IMO. Of course as A 5 through 7 year old, I did not know any of this and worshipped the entire series.
@@jimvanderschaaf7762 Well yeah, when you are a kid (I watched this show in reruns back in 1972-1973, I was 7) you tend to suspend your belief system more easily and are more willing to accept-and believe-outrageous notions and ideas. But man, that talking 🥕, even as a 7 year old it was hard to accept and enjoy any part of that idea. I enjoy the Season 1 episodes way more than the colored S2 and S3. My favorite episode is “One of our dogs is Missing”. That werewolf/Wolverine monster is a bit silly now, but again, when you’re 7, even that can be scary.
Yep. "The Great Vegetable Rebellion." Even Jonathan Harris cited that one as a sign that the writers were running out of ideas. He asked "Do we HAVE to do this one?" Unfortunately, they did.
These early Si FI series were so assume. Todays SI FI series are nothing compared to the oldies but goodies, DANGER, DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember it so well
I loved this show my week revolved around "Lost in Space" as a kid.....this was Wednesday....then on Friday came "The Green Hornet and (Kato)" ...then Saturday mornings it was "Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, & the Herculoids"..........that was the BEST///GREATEST time EVER to be a kid
I thought I was the only one! Yes, as a kid that owl creature just creeped me out. I’ve always been curious where it appeared before LIS. It is seen so briefly I highly doubt Irwin Allen had it designed and built for this episode - it must have been a reused creature prop from something else.
@@jsgold2000 Well that swooping space owl at the end probably made kids duck away from the TV screen. I was afraid of scary stuff on tv back then too. Now I find it humorous . The black and white makes it scarier.
scared me to death as a little kid , that show was so freaky back then, dr. smith always causing all the problems yet he did all the running hiding and screaming hahahahaha
The two part Keeper episodes were memorable. One more time I wanted to karate chop Smith as a kid. LIS was always what we looked forward to after school at 5:00 on channel 50
@@georgetaylor4719 Same here George! Everything good came on after Bill Kennedy "At the Movies". Well, Channel 20 WXON had Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot and Ultraman, plus the Marvel Superheroes.
At 8 years olds the suspense, dialogue, music and visual effects were terrifying, but I so loved this show and simply adored Will Robinson, The Robot and Zachary Smith !!!! Danger !!! Warning !!! Run Dr Smith RUN !!!!
The best of sci-fi for the series black-and-white season one. Thinking about it now a lot of foreshadowing as we hadn’t seen many of these creatures yet until later in the series.
Man, I remember this scene when I was just a kid in the 60 & I was glued to the screen that's how scary I thought it was. Flash forward to the 80s & I was watching LIS on the USA network & my roommate sat down & asked about what I was watching. I said, "watch all the aliens escape". Then I pointed out they were the same aliens filmed exiting out the spaceship over & over just at different angles. Head shots then a shot of Dr. Smith looking terrified then shot of the alien's feet & the shaky cam. My roommate who had never seen LIS even though he was like 7 years older than me was watching while he lit up a bowl & almost spit out bong water he was laughing so hard. That was classic. I've loved this show through the decades & shown it to my own son back in the early 2000s. He was 6 at the time & he said it looked "fakey". I laughed so hard. Lost in Space...you are a classic for the ages!
If you noticed in this scene Dr Smith helps the robot keep his balance coming down the ramp. Bob May who was in the robot had to walk in this scene. Loved this show even with its 50 dollar budget. same monsters over and over lol
The robot's feet audibly shuffle across the floor. Original broadcast date - Part 1: Wednesday 12 Jan 1966. Part 2: Wednesday 19 Jan 1966. Jonathan Harris was 52. The series was mostly filmed on Stages 5 and 6 at 20th Century Fox Studios in Century City CA. Also filmed there at the same time was the “Batman” series, plus the final year of Perry Mason.
I think one of the funniest Dr.Smith lines of all was in the Season 3 episode "Space Destructors" where he creates an army of cyborgs, all of which look exactly like him. After his diabolical scheme is crushed, he says in a humbled and sorrowful sort of way, "What a frightful mess I've made of things. And all I wanted to do was rule the universe".
This Is The Movie Showed On Television In Vietnam Decades 50s 60s Until 1975 When Viet Cong Invaded South Vietnam, American Television Stations No More, When I was a child I loved This Movie And Movies Like : Gun Smoke, Bonnanza, The Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea V..v DO NOT REMOVE IT THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤️. 10/7/22
I hated Dr. Smith so bad when I was a kid. Couldn't understand why they didn't leave him on some planet. Little did I know he needed to stay around for plot purposes, but more as a bumbling coward.
Lol! You see the same monsters over and over throughout the 3-year-long series! Same with most of the props, which were usually repainted in order to make them look a bit different and less recognizable. Still, the show was incredibly entertaining and fun to watch and laugh along with! Although the series started out intending to be serious, it took a humorous turn when Jonathon Harris (Dr.Smith), all on his own, began modifying his lines specifically to make the Dr.Smith character more light-hearted and humorous. Producer Irwin Allen immediately realized what Harris was doing, loved it, and encouraged him to do more of it.
Muy buena edicion de esta escena. Los monstruos son solo 5 que se repiten, pero como la secuencia esta filmada desde diferentes angulos da la sensacion de que son muchos mas.
I am pretty sure the robot was actually running or jogging along just to keep up with Doctor Smith and how fast he was running... 😜 Think it was Rob May who was inside the robot costume so, yes, he probably had lifted up the robot's skirts and was moving his feet as fast as possible!
In many shots throughout the show he wore only the top half of the robot costume and just walked normally. These were scenes where the lower half did not show or was hidden behind rocks. You will notice the slight bobbing up and down with each step if you watch for it.
If you ask me, I say the Robinsons should have just liberated the robot from Smith's influence permanently and have that quack quarantined in a cryo-stasis pod for the remainder of the voyage!! That, he may no further endanger their lives, nor manipulate Will with any more of his lust for egotistic gain.
Bumbling mad scientist Dr. Zachary Smith fools around with the alien controls to imprison the spaceship's monsters and releases them. He blames the robot for it? He makes Gilligan on Gilligan's Island look like a genius.
Yes, it's the same four or five monsters (and one unicorn) over and over again, but the way the sequence is shot and the buildup of the music and Jonathan Harris's reactions make the whole thing terrifying.
Dr Smith ! Whatta pain in the ass he was , I told my wife the Robinsons should've put him in one of the suspended animation tubes on the Jupiter 2 and left him there , or Don could've seen to it he had a fatal accident one day,,,,, Dr Smith is definitely the villain you love to hate
