So fun to watch! Thank you. Amazing how Bob May, Dick Tufeld and the cast made what is essentially a prop one of the most memorable characters in television history.

And, everytime he gets into trouble and thinks he can get help, the first one he hollers for is the robot!

No one spewed invective like Dr. Smith. The Robot/Smith duo is up w/ Abbott & Costello.

Thank you so much! I really loved it and brought back childhood memories- I still love Dr Smith and have introduced some of these episodes to my grandkids.

My teacher used to make us write down the words that Dr. Smith called the robot and we had to look them up in a dictionary for homework. One word I still remember that I learned is ignominious.

As some of you probably know, Jonathan Harris says he thought of and wrote all of the insults or zingers that he called the robot. On a TV talkshow, Mr. Harris claims he still has a full list of all of the zingers he thought of.

Yes he wrote stuff down...the zingers. The zingers list was his private property. I saw the same Jonathan Harris TV talkshow.

I LOVED LIS and all of this as a kid, esp. the Robot. All the kids thought he was real, just as Irwin Allen wanted us to believe. These clips just cheered me up and actually warmed me with nostalgia. It is hard to believe that Mr. Harris changed his character and was able to incorporate all these insults in just one season.

Mr Harris was brilliant as the character of Dr Smith because of the absurdity of it all!!!!

Jonathan Harris truly did have an extraordinary command of the English language. He set one of his earliest goals in life to become an expert elocutionist and linguist from the time he was a very young lad and unarguably succeeded. That valuable advantage alone fully accounts for the bulk of his acting career success considering the acting profession its wholly reliant upon a strong command of language, speaking and overall exemplary communication.

I loved Mr Tufeld’s distinctive voice, both as the robot and as the narrator! He was a hallmark of the show and a true cast member!! The same for Bob May! It was years before I realized there was actually someone inside the robot!!!

OMG I didn't realize how many campy insults from Dr. Smith to the robot occurred in the first season. (Season one was my favorite season). It was a prelude to seasons two and three which got totally out of hand with the low budget monsters and campy scenes. Batman aired opposite on ABC starting in 1966 and LIS had to compete for the ratings which was on CBS. Still loved this show nevertheless. Like the 2018 LIS too.

Totally agree with everything you've written Dale. Particularly season one being the very best back when the science fiction was treated with the utmost seriousness and respect. Seasons 2 and 3 went sharply downhill in that regard although were considerably more entertaining in others. Just the fact they were filmed in COLOR rather than B&W alone made them more "true to life" and come alive. On the other hand it also made them more everyday-like thus mundane rather than spooky & eerie due to the spectacular effects and atmospheres which can be created thru the use of lighting and shadows as was so brilliantly done during the early 20th century. I further believe the creators used the color film as a substitute for quality writing, science fiction, set design and costuming. So in that regard it was a double-edged sword which cut both ways. I've often wonder over the past many decades how much better seasons 2 and 3 would've been quality-wise had those episodes all been shot in B&W rather than color. Making that transition just a 3rd of the way into the historical development of the series had a far greater negative overall impact rather than positive in my estimation. But it's a pretty safe bet a lack of MONEY meaning the necessary funding had more to do with the decline in quality that anything else. Star Trek had just hit the airwaves about that same time which took space oriented science fiction to an entirely superior level a full quantum leap above our beloved Lost in Space. But the latter unarguably served as a wonderful precursor hence deserves due respect and acknowledgement regarding what Irwin Allen was able to successfully achieve during his day and that early era of Space oriented SciFi. Too bad Irwin was such a skin flint. Other than that unfortunate counterproductive trait he had many of the same great characteristics which made Gene Roddenberry so amazingly successful and legendary, although Roddenberry was profoundly more cerebral and well-educated in all the natural sciences including Physics, Space and Cosmology as compared to Irwin Allen. Both had an extraordinary talent and ability for thinking "out of the box" and on a "grand scale" almost larger than life in caliber. That, being what made their work stand out far above all the competition and last the test of time these many decades later.

Utterly brilliant! A mosst HEXcellent editing job you've achieved here, jrvspace - must've taken a long time, so THANK YOU VERY MUTCH for taking the time & making the effort to produce these wonderful odes to one of THE ponciest invective-hurlers of ALL time (I always think of the Simpson's Mr Burns as being quite influenced by Dr Smith's character too, btw). Thiss was one of my favourite shows as a kid (I was born 1 year b4 it firsst aired in the States, though I believe it took a couple of years forrit to reach uss tucked away safely wayy down here in 'Godzone' (NZ) - as with MOSST things, 'UnZudd' was even MORE of a 'cultural backwater' than even mOzztrawlia (copyright). So I can't recall a time when this classic show WASN'T a parrt of my 'tender yoof', esspecially since 'repeats' were then still VERY popular - hey, we DID have ONE whole channel to fill with 'Quality Viewing' diddint we?* Anyhoo - LIS simultaneously delighted & terrified the living SHINOLA outta me, & the clanging, banging soundtrack is STILL one of THEE very best of that period, imo. P.S:: I recall Jonathan Harris was rather miffed at being snubbed by the producers of the risible 1998 cash-grab flick (NO "Class M-3 B-9 General Utility Non-Theorizing Environmental Control Robot"?!? Get the F*CK outta here!!! Grrr), but he SERIOUSLY dodged a bullet there & why has this font multiplied in stoopid size oh I see...) - ! BIG "UPs"!!! :-D (*Fyi: We greww up onna heady dietary mixx of Yank & Brit shows, mosstly, with the odd - very odd! - Kiwi show trying it's beast to rise above the then-all-pervasive 'cultural cringe' that nobbled SO many locally-produced telly shows - LoL?).

I loved this program in its day, but it always relied on the interaction of Dr. Smith, Will, and the Robot. Just amazing how Dr. Smith kept finding new costumes for his idiotic plots. One more thing: He always jeopardized the lives of the others, yet each week they'd take him back and justify his existence!
