From 3D print to metal Terminator skull. Some additional work was needed to make some parts, though this method is faster than hammering everything out of flat sheet and allows for better detail.
Thanks! Yes, I'll be doing more to the eyes, here are the ones I made for my last skull: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RG9HpijORLw.html
I love that the little pits from casting, blacked in end up looking like it's battle worn and adds to the authenticity of it all. What 3d printing and cnc machines have added to casting, etc is mind blowing. You said in a previous comment that you think this project it too niche to get a lot of likes, I say don't trust someone who hasn't see terminator! Beautiful work.
Thanks! Yes, you're right. I could polish it further and make it all shiny and perfect, but I'm deliberately leaving in some of the marks and even accentuating them to give it a slightly worn/weathered appearance, which I think is a lot more fitting.
So glad to see real machine work on T800 ! I’m sure you will get great reviews as I did in 2002 for my fiberglass bondo unit I made for my computer repair store ! I made my skull by freezing and print screen of the move as the terminator was chasing Sarah and Kile through the factory. If I had a 3D printer I could have made a ton of money selling them for man caves! So many people offered me money for the unit in my store, it was ridiculous! I did a wax model and aluminum casting but ran in to the same as you did but worse! Not knowing what I was doing! Good luck and great job!
Don’t know how I got here... was looking for programming videos and damn, am I glad to have clicked on your video. What an amazing job. Actually what an amazing art. I’m going to watch the video a few times for sure later on this evening. It’s so intense and beautiful. Thank you helping to forget my programming for a while. Gonna watch Arnold this weekend with my dog I guess. So much to watch on Netflix and Prime Video but never know what to choose. If they don’t have Terminator 1 on I’ll DL it from a torrent site. Wish you all the best, take care. Stay safe! 😉👋👍
Being an avid fan I see this and yes, amazing video! I have been 3d printing a 1:1 in resin and modifying for animatronics. Now I want to scratch all of that and cast all my parts I made, lol. Really superb craftsmanship!
i await the day this thing has been perfected enough to actually gain sentience through skynet since its basically got a real-life functioning T-800 body allready right here
I'm astounded at your skill and jealous of your awesome tools. That was an awesome video. Great closeups of your work. I see this video becoming very popular.
Be careful man, you're gonna get a visitor from the future because somebody started a robot army that took over the world. Great job man, new subscriber.
OMG this is amazing. This is possibly the one thing I would actually spend time and money doing, out of all the videos I have watched. Please share your files;)
you have done a amazing job, and made me want to start casting, oh just imagine having the eyes light up and a motor to have the cogs move that would be freaky but awsome.
I am both fascinated and repulsed by this. Beautifully finished! The sound of those hand files, though. They grate on my nerves every time, LOL! It’s a cross I have to bear…
You're getting better and better with these builds dude! Might I suggest putting some sprues on the parts to let the metal flow to the places it's not reaching, and to make a vacuum table so you can vacuum cast, that'll stop most of the issues I see :)
That actually is a vacuum table at 3:00 though I didn't go into detail on that in this video, it worked really well for the small parts. But yes, you're right about sprues, some of the larger parts I couldn't cast on the table (jaw, back of skull) failed because I made the sprues too short and there wasn't enough pressure to fill the mould.
Really ... looks like a Terminator skull some random human freedom fighter looted from the battlefield and brought it back to his people like some kind of trophy. The little ditches and cracks in the metal just give the end result a unique finish. Not too perfect, but I really like it.
Yes, that's kind of the look I'm going for, I've deliberately left some of the marks and imperfections, even blackened them, to give it a more authentic look.
Really awesome! I wonder if you could of saved some of the finishing time by smoothing the PLA parts out more before casting. I really admire all the work you have put into it, it shows so well by the finished quality!
Thanks very much! Not as much time as you might think, as I would have to finish and polish the metal parts anyway, I only cleaned up the worst of the 3D prints, plus I prefer to work with metal than plastic and I actually left some of the rough print texture in some places to give a weathered appearance which I think looks more authentic.
So much work, so little reward... If you had cast this in Stirling, i'd give you props... There are collectors that would have bought it... Just imagine what it would have looked like with a five year patina.
Finally, metal teeth. Too many skulls have the bone colored teeth. The endoskeleton is supposed to have the flesh burned off and just be metal. Awesome work.
Glad you like the teeth! A lot of people tell me they should be enamel coloured, but personally I prefer the dirty metal look and I think it's more authentic.
Thanks! It's actually a long process making the pattern, creating the investment mould, burning it out etc... It was quicker to repair the poorly cast parts, plus I didn't want to waste them.
Yes, I'm going to use the lost PLA method for smaller and more detailed parts of the body (probably starting with the neck vertebrae) and fabricate/machine the bigger parts.
Terminator's eyes would look more like the movie if they could light up red using leds. That's what made it scarier looking. Same principle as HAL 2000 with his red glaring lens. You are quite a skilled craftsman I must say. It looks absolutely gorgeous and well detailed. Now you just need to add the red eyes to make it scary...lol.
Yes, I did do the red eyes on my previous skull, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RG9HpijORLw.html but I'm actually planning a slight improvement for this one (more on that later).
Thanks! I just watched your video where you poured aluminium straight into a 3D print, really impressed how well that worked, I'll have to try that. I've done a similar thing with EPS foam before but you can't carve as much detail into foam.
@@AndysMachines I appreciate you checking my video out sir... I have yet to try lost foam, and I'm just now trying to get into some plaster casting, just waiting on my burn out furnace..👍
