You certainly do your research. I lived in Morecambe between 1966-1986 and I remember Euston Road station standing derelict. There used to be old rolling stock parked up in the sidings for a lot of years, but I didn't realise it was still used for freight. I don't remember any activity around there I must say. My dad was a bus driver for Ribble and was based at the old bus station. The depot was up Lancaster Road - there's an Asda there now.

According to a 1913 Ordnance Survey map there was a signal box at Euston Road station. Cross referencing with Google Earth it was next to (what is now) 54 Schola Green Lane but it faced the railway of course. As far as I can see there is nothing left of it. There was also a signal box in the "V" formed by the split of the Midland lines and LNWR line. It was called "Hest Bank Junction" but there appears to be nothing left of that box either. Even though I am far away (in South London) and have never been to Morecambe I find these videos on local railway history fascinating. I think it has as much to do with Thomas Edward's enthusiasm for his subject as my interest in bygone rail.

We could go on for ever with all details trying get everything in one video is hard without making it too long. But there's plenty Morecambe videos and other areas to come on TE channel. Thank you for your kind words I do love my history and telling people on camera all about it.

I lived near by early 60s and remember looking across to the signal box behind the station at Euston Rd.

I went to junior school in Morecambe in the 1950s . A special school excursion to Edinburgh around 1956 took us from Euston Rd station to Edinburgh, the Forth Bridge etc and back in one day . As young lads we used to meet trains , and take holiday maker’s luggage on our home made trolleys to their lodgings for pocket money . There was a huge signal box at the exit of prom station , and one on the electrified line to Scale Hall & Green Ayre station on the Leeds Line (now a cycle track into Lancaster ) . Cheers, DAVE

2 turntables,.. 2 different companies aren't they.! The one between the greenaire(midland) and LNWR belonging to the LNWR, and the Morrisons one was obviously the Midlands table. They may have both used the same one at some point, but I guess whoever got to Morecambe second, would have been a bit cheeky asking to use their rivals eh.! Plus... The Midlands table would maybe have had to be set up somehow for their electric sets.?🤔?. Just a thought.! LOVE THE VIDS KEEP'EM COMING RICH. Kendal🥰🥰🥰.

I didn’t talk about line in middle because that’s a future video on TE channel once we get started on lines into Lancaster. because for this series just doing stations around Morecambe and if you stay tuned with Sub and click that Bell “Ding” part 4 isn’t far away from been filmed and edited.

Another excellent video. Just about remember the sidings going into Euston Road after it closed to passengers. With reference to the loading ramp at the west end, the 'WM' on the map is a weighing machine.

I wouldn't be surprised if the loading ramp is still in the builders yard. It may still get some use.

Hi, enjoyed the video, just one comment. The caption flashed on that Euston Road was a Beeching closure, but Beeching's report wasn't until 1963, when passenger services had already finished. I have a photo taken of the back of Euston Road bus station but not sure if I can upload it!

I never knew morecambe had SO many stations! I knew there was a station at the sea front near central drive, I actually went there and saw it once, after it had been downsized to just two platforms, and then I went back a few years later and it had closed and been put to new use and the line had been cut right back to where it is now. And if you look on google maps and zoom in you can still see the routes of some old lines further east of the town.

Hello Awww so glad my Video's have learnt you something new that's what I set out to do and I've achieved it. I'm walking down "West End road" just off Euston Road west end road takes you across to the promenade just bit down from Aldi. I'm working on next Video as we speak "Lost railway's of Morecambe part 3" but it's biggie so taking lot editing.

@@ThomasEdward that bit of West End Road from the bridge down to Euston Road is actually Euston Grove by the post office records... and it isn't as bad as you might think walking down there of a night given it's on the main bus route into Heysham and is well lit. For all the years I've been here I never knew there used to be a station where the residential home is so I'm finding this very fascinating. Funnily enough if you put any of the numbers into Google maps for that end of the street and search for them on West End Road, they all seem to point to very close to where you were filming most of this (although I'd never tried that before now as I've never referred to it as West End Road).

yes there was a signal box just outside Morecambe promenade station and a signal box at Bare lane station. The goods shed in TP yard is a listed building but there is nothing to indicate it was a rail shed
