"I think you have strength, of a different kind. And one day your father will see it"
Several of you have asked me to make this video! Here it is! Faramir has been one of my favorite characters from The Lord of the Rings since I was a kid. His courage, his strength and his determination to want to be loved by his father moved me. I hope you will like this fan video!

And Tolkien said if any character were most like him, it was Faramir. Violence, real killing and violence is horrible. Faramir hated it. But was good at it, possibly better than Boromir, and like millions in WW1 he was injured in a futile effort.

Yet I will wed with the White Lady of Rohan, if it be her will. And if she will, then let us cross the River and in happier days let us dwell in fair Ithilien and there make a garden. RotK was the first of the films where I was able to read the book before going to the theater, and I loved the scenes in the book with Faramir and Eowyn. So it made me so happy to even see a small scene in the extended edition.

Faramir was even stronger in the books. He released Frodo without doubt or temptation after catching him in Ithilien and fought a rearguard action across the fields of Pelennor during the retreat from the Causeway forts. His governance of men and beast was so great that even the Nazgul could not break his troops discipline.

@@katelynpanter1185 His father was not a narcissist. He was LEADER of nation in great chaos. Most of his country was atacked from all sides. His favorite son and heir die, which even more chaos, and Faramir... He was great warrior. Great military leader, but he... FAIL. time after time, his troops fight with honor, but... get push back. Boromir was schooled to be a RULER. Faramir was alweys just captain of gonodr armies. And Denethor know this. And sadly his mind was poisoned by sauron will. He feed his fear. He make his mind full of doubts. Denethor dont hate faramir. He just dont saw him what could boromir could be. a HERO OF HUMANITY and GONODR. Faramir was... to "small" for this task.

One of the gripes I had with movie version was that showed Faramir in a bad light when he meets Frodo and Sam. In the book, Faramir realizes early on that Frodo had the ring, but was able to resist all temptations. He then genuinely offered help and advise. Frodo only took shelter, rest, supplies, and went on his way.
@englishlady9797
@englishlady9797 2 года назад
Yeah, I think he had a vision of Frodo and the Ring, which is interesting since humans in LOTR don't usually have that type of thing. He's one of the few people who resisted the Ring and let it go willingly. Also my favourite character.

I actually preferred this about the movies - they gave the characters more depth by showing that even the “best” characters had weakness and temptation (Aragorn included), which made their triumph over it infinitely more meaningful

I actually like that he was tempted by the ring unlike the books. It makes his tests using its power and letting them go even more meaningful. It shows that he was tempted, but he was able to resist for the greater good, and prove his worth and goodness

I really don't know how anyone can choose a favorite character in LOTR when there are so many amazing character, but I think Faramir gets overlooked a bit which is sad because I really do think his character is lovely. Somehow there is something fresh about his character... something gentler than Aragorn and yet equally ~manly. I wish we could have seen his first meeting with Éowyn when she politely insists on him ordering the healers to let her off of bed rest so she can die in battle and he's like 'What would you have me do, lady? I also am a prisoner of the healers.' ANDTHEN they share a look and he is stirred by her and wants to NOT let her ride out into battle and die before he can even get her phone number. But he does do everything in his power to accommodate her and make sure she is at ease. And then they bond over both being touched by a shadow of darkness. And then when she leaves he makes his Warden bring Merry to him so he can learn who this pale, lovely woman really is. And then after the final battle, Éowyn doesn't want to attend Aragorn's coronation and Faramir asks her why. Is it because she does not wish to see Aragorn or because she wants to stay by Faramir's side? "And maybe for both these reasons, and you yourself cannot choose between them. Éowyn, do you not love me, or will you not?' 'I wished to be loved by another,' she answered. 'But I desire no man's pity.' And he's like ~"I know you loved the IDEA of the Lord Aragorn in all his splendor and whatever because tbh who wouldn't love Aragorn? He's AWESOME. But he doesn't love you, and I do. And don't say that I only pity you, because YOU KILLED THE FREAKING KING OF THE NAZGUL. And you don't needf pity. I am actually just really stupidly and completely in love with you no matter what. Pls love me back." *Then the heart of eowyn changed, or else at last she understood it. And suddenly her winter passed, and the sun shone on her.* Then they start talking about getting married and starting a cottage and then they make out and "he cared not that they stood high upon the walls in the sight of many."

He was far more benevolent, cautious, wise and caring in the books. I do absolutely love his portrayal in the films, but his character was over-dramatised in the writing choices in the scenes leading upto and during the attack on Osgiliath in the Two Towers movie. I don't mean David Wenham himself of course, just the writing/directing. This was also done with Arwen's character when taking it from book to film.

Well Sam, Boromir didn't die because of the ring. He died because he would rather die protecting his friends than leaving them to their doom.

I actually liked that he was tempted by the ring. It wouldn't make sense that all other men were tempted except for him. It made the films consistent. It shows more strength that he overcame the temptation, than not having to overcome any temptation at all.
