@@mrsoisauce9017 while the last ICE lotus has been made, they do run their models for very long stretches. The Evija is amazing but I don’t see them as exclusively electric.
I had the great pleasure of meeting Emerson Fittipaldi at the inaugural Miami GP this year. Mr. Fittipaldi is a very gracious and humble man that took time to speak with me as well as take a few photos with me. To meet and shake the hand of a true champion like Emerson was a great experience. Thank you, Mr. Fittipaldi, for taking the time to speak with a fan and it was great spending time with you sir.
What a life, ladies and gentlemen. This guy was double F1 champ, made his dream about having his own F1 team in a 3rd world country, was F-Indy champ, won the Indianapolis 500 twice, released a GT car with Pininfarina (the EF7), and now he gets this tribute from Lotus. In one word: LEGEND.
Emerson, what a lovely guy! Who else could be more suitable to drive such a beautiful car as the 72, and to drive it to a world championship? The drivers in those days were such remarkable personalities, not like the sterile robots of today (Jenson excepted of course who would have completely fitted in to the 70's era - so glad he was chosen by Lotus to be an ambassador for the new car!). Takes me back to '72 when I was a ten year old totally obsessed with the Lotus 72, love at first sight in fact, and ever since! Amazing to see all the remaining 72's driving around the track in the same time and place....especially with one of them in Ronnie's colours.
As a 15 year old ,my mum took me to Brands Hatch in July 1972..we stood just at the exit of Paddock bend , on the the way up to Druids.. I remember it like it was yesterday..Thanks Mum!
Sempre será meu carro do sonho.
Well done Lotus. What a fitting tribute to a wonderful man. As a small boy I played on the carpet with my toy Type 72 and still have it today. Watching this feels like coming full circle.
How is it owning a Lotus ? Im eying a 10 year old Evora but have some doubts regarding servicability. How easily repairable is it if something goes wrong and are parts available?
@@kayboypstar4990 the Evora is a brilliant car. I have Esprits currently and they have both been brilliant. Parts are readily available for esprit, Elise, Exige , Evora
For me, from the side view, this is one of the most beautiful F1 cars to date! In 1980 I left Hungary for the Austrian Grand Prix with a classmate. Elio de Angelis, who later died young, finished 6th with one of the Essex Lotuses. The other two Lotuses were eliminated with engine failure. One was driven by Mario Andretti, the other by Nigel Mansell, whose first F1 race in his life. I keep the program booklet, which deals with the Lotus Team with colorful pictures on several pages ! Emerson Fittipaldi's new car was unfortunately uncompetitive. I'm glad to see you again with this beautiful new car ! I wish him good health and the team a lot of success !
Thank you, what a special moment to see car and driver together. I love Lotus, I've got this strange affinity with them. I was born in Jan 1970, I'm pretty much ages with the 72. In 1971, when I was 18 months old, I was in an horrific car accident, I was an 18 month old passenger in a Lotus Elan +2 on the motorway heading to London and we were hit by a truck, the car broke apart and I wasn't in a child seat or even strapped in, so I was flung down the road and was in a bad way, but I survived, you're made of rubber at that age. Since then I've had a fascination with cars and I love Lotus. Colin Chapman was a genius, he could find ways to circumvent the laws of physics. I loved Jim Clark, he was an all time legend in the sport, I loved Jochen and find his story so sad. 1970 must have been tough, to have Rindt as posthumous champion. In fact this was a dangerous time for all drivers. It took real courage to drive back then. The 72 is such a beautiful car, the black and gold is so distinctive and it set so many standards, the blueprint hasn'tchanged much really. And what a treat to see Fittipaldi with it and talk about it and drive it, a proper gentleman in and out the car, what a video, thank you so much.
Hard to picture Emo having a bad day. What a class act -- and the CARS. And the LIVERY. This video is a stunner. And it's great to know that Jenson can belt in and drive an F1 car with a clutch and gear shift. Probably the last generation of drivers who can do that. Not to be critical of anyone who can't but -- all this mechanical evolution demands numerous skills to fully appreciate.
I lived in England in the Mid '70s, as a kid. I had a huge laminated JPS Formula 1 Poster on my wall I received as a birthday gift. My father took me to a British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, I think it was 1976. It was a very memorable experience. I witnessed a F1 car fly off the track heading directly toward me. I was behind the second of two tall chain link fences near one of the corners. During the race I got a JPS T-Shirt, and inflatable Goodyear Tyres Blimp. The John Player Special Race Vehicles in my opinion were absolutely awesome. The the Gold Trim and Gloss Black Paint Scheme, was stylized from their cigarette's flip-top box packaging. My father fabricated for me a "Mini-Formula 1" style go-cart with a motorcycle engine, however after it was finished he realized how insanely fast it was and I really didn't get to drive it..
Probably the most beautiful livery a F1 car ever had,the Black\Gold JPS . Rato deserves this homage , some people gave him hell for some of his personal choices. Thanks Lotus.
Great video lovely to see the 72 again my favourite was the 79 and miss Lotus and the genius of Colin Chapman makes you proud to be British wish they were still in F1.Great to see Emerson again and Jenson. Nothing handles like a Lotus I think Colin Chapman would be pleased with the cars of today.
Thank you so much for making this lovely video available. I had chills just seeing those beautiful 72s with their livery all together in such a fine homage to Emerson and his championship car. So many memories of Lotus F1 in the 70s-what an epic time that was. Having grown up driving my father's 71 Elan and now with my own 69 Elan S4 DHC, I hope that Lotus will be successful in the US with the Emira and am looking forward to the future of my favorite car company! Cheers.
Some of my earliest memories are seeing these cars race when my late father took me to the formula 1 racing back in the 70's, I also Remember having a Corgi Lotus 72 with a matching paint lotus road car pulling it on a trailer, still my most favourite toy (although lost many years ago), great cars both road and track and a big part of my childhood, seeing Fittipaldi/Hunt/Stuart/Lauda/Scheckter/Andretti.... what memories..... what a decade...... (even the Lotus jackets look cool) lol. 😊👍✌🖖👌👏🤘🤙
Everything about this is wonderful. I'm so glad that Lotus is still at the cutting edge. Emerson Fittipaldi is a lovely, humble man. Born on the same day as my dad 12th December 1946.
Those were the days. The 79, 78 and 72 are the gorgeous creations of a genius constructor. Many, many thanks to Classic Team Lotus and Emerson for keeping the legend alive!
Legendary! A JSP livery for the Evija is an amazing and proper way to celebrate both the new times and the glory days of Lotus and Fittipaldi! Well done!
I had the pleasure of meeting Emerson Fittipaldi and his wife at LOG 27 in Aspen, Colorado. I was so impressed at how very gracious and humble they were. A class act 🇧🇷
Absolutely wonderful! I followed the first F1 GP watching Monaco GP of 1972 season, when Emmo took the leadership which he kepts to bring to our country the first F1 Championship title, opening the doors for other remarkable Brazilian pilots, champions! His contact with this wonderful, revolutionary machine was a really moving experience, not found in pasteurized, monotonic PR controlled relations of F1 drivers nowadays. We now have him and Sir Jackie Stewart as two "root" champions of F1!
So emotional to see Fittipaldi celebrating Lotus! with the team! Celebrating 50 years of 1972 World Championship and the eletric Lotus car! And the young Emerson Fittipaldi Jr. There, celebrating Lotus with his father.
Heartwarming video and its production team must have some appreciation for Lotus history, and what a history it was. The future is bright for Lotus cars with the unveiling of the electric car offering; hopefully, the sales of the new generation of cars will return Lotus to F1.
Watched him at Brands many times - including his first F3 race (Lotus 59) where he spun after warning drivers behind of oil. Lovely guy. Fabulous driver. A Champion in the same style as Fangio. Tragic that he went to Copersucar - how many lost championships??
He was trying to develop his own project, using the new (at that time) sugarcane ethanol. Lost a lot of money... But this is a big part of F1: Try new tecnologies. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
It wasn't the fuel that was the problem, but a poor chassis - the DFV was as good as any other team so equipped. Even Lotus themselves went down some blind alleys.
A beautiful story about a beautiful man in a beautiful car, told beautifully. I've always been a fan of Lotus and I wish them success in the future, although I always have the impression that they're overreaching. The line between genius and crazy is defined by success...
Lotus: add weight and simplify. Also lotus: builds a heavy ev Also us: evs sounds terrible and have no gears. Where is the sensory overload and involvement of the drive? Where is the lightness?
Muito Obrigado, Henrique do Vale - Rio Verde - GO Brasil
It's crazy that the Evija has more bhp per wheel from its electric motors than the Lotus 72s Cosworth DFV, 420bhp for the DFV, 500bhp per wheel for the Evija
Most enjoyable. A personal family story, one in which I cannot verify, as both my parents are long deceased (mum 1978, dad 1981). Not long after mum passed, I was watching some motor racing with dad, and something about Lotus, or about Colin Chapman, came up, and dad mentioned, quite casually, that Colin and mum were friends. Not, that he and mum were friends of Colin, just that Colin, and my mother Audrey, were friends. As I said, there's no way to verify any of this, however, it is at least possible. The family lived in Norfolk between 1967 and late 1971. Regarding how, my mum might have met Colin, my only guess there, was that Audrey was one of two telephonists, working for the RAC in Norwich. So, if Colin ever had any dealings with anyone at the RAC in Norwich, there is a very good chance they spoke together on the phone. Anyway, I like to think this story is true, it's just not the kind of thing my dad, who coincidentally is also named Colin, would have made up . . .
In UK he is honored with a limited edition super car. In USA he has a street named after him. In Brazil the press writes articles such as "Fittipaldi, Piquet: The strange attraction of pilots for fascists". I hate my country sometimes.
as motorsports fans they should’ve made a combustion engine version of this car for no other reason than the original didn’t have any electric or hybrid capabilities
It was quite amazing Fittipaldi remained as the youngest F1 champion from 1972 until Alonso became champion in 2005. Then, that post quickly changed hands in 2008 to Hamilton, and again in 2010 with Vettel. Since Verstappen did not reap that specific record, it is very likely Vettel will retain it for some time to come.
The brazilian accent are glorious, u remember of Fittipaldi, The Boss Senna, Massa, Barrichello, whatever... I would like speak with this accent, why not eh?
