For once we get serious as Alex explores one of his most influential artists and performers. Where it all started for him. Rare video footage to go with it.

This song is a snapshot of Warhol and his friends in the 70’s. Everyone Lou talks about in the song, Holly, Candy etc... where real people. Great song! I’m 62, was 13 when this came out.

It was played on radio stations because the managers (not the DJs) had no idea what the lyrics were about.

I was 16 in 1973 when I bought this album, and I have to confess I bought it more because Bowie was heavily involved with it. That said, I grew to love Lou Reed, and after Bowie Reed is my second favourite soloist. Like the 2 of you obviously are, in your youth and now also, I had a friend (still is my friend) who I listened to music with almost daily. On the weekends we would get drunk and listen to very very loud songs that we had in our collections on his stereo. We both bought 45's mainly, but also albums, just less often. Great memories. I get a kick out of listening to you two...your friendship comes through in your banter, which is great to hear.

Wonderful song. Well presented. And this song always represented 70's New York to me. National lampoon did a "photo essay" on the Bronx in 73 or 74. It was hilarious to me as it was just a bunch of blurry pictures of some guy running all the time. Now back to the kitten videos.

Absolute classic, which does seem at odds for this channel but you might be right. But then, why not some of the grittier less radio friendly Lou Reed? I did love you explaining this Alex, it's always a pleasure listening to the two of you talk about what makes a song special to you. I regret that I have but one like to give! More please!

@@TheThamesmenToo It's a great song, but clearly a metaphor for something and I'm not sure what, I prefer something like Waves of Fear lyrically, but Quines guitar is a great catalyst for Lou I feel and the music is definitely top notch! Dirty Blvd is gritty, but friendly!

@@christhecurator I never gelled with Quine. Yep he's menat to be this master, this opiate filled genius but I never shared him. Maybe he was better if you actually knew him. I like waves of fear BUT what I wanted to do on this channel , and bottled out, was Street Hustle

@@TheThamesmenToo Yeah, that's not a happy song. I guess you'll have to create the Leonard Cohen Songs of Depression playlist for it, because it won't fit the others. But if you want to bring it do, after all, this is meant for yourself and George to express yourself, and if that's the song you feel most passionate about, bring it on! I promise to watch it! I've just been listening to Sleaford Mods so you've got a few credits!

Herbie Flowers, managing to persuade the producers to put him on 2 tracks. not because it sounded better, but because he got paid per track. But he ended creating one of the most famous bass lines ever, through greed. Got to love him.

OK, I am in America at 2:24 am with a couple drinks of whiskey in me. Let's see ,what you got. Lou Reed, was the prtogenisis of David Bowie and Mick Ronson. Let's get on with it blokes.
@scottfeuerhammer3595
@scottfeuerhammer3595 2 года назад
I will digress. I always post before. You are correct, Bowie and Ronson were inspired by Lou Reed, this album is Lou Reed, with Bowie and Ronson production and arrangement. This is totally NYC in 1972. And Lou is just using spoken word for what he just saw for the past 5-6 years. I wish he had a verse for Edie Sedgwick. But the Warhol factory chewed them out and spit them out.
