2.3.20 | by Adam Balhetchet | MIDTOWN, Manhattan - A suspect was arrested for having an outstanding bench warrant. It happened around 2:30 am Sunday near East 44th St & 3rd Ave in front of Ben & Jacks Steakhouse. It started in front of Duane Reade at East 39th St & 2nd Ave. That is when a Duane Reade employee ran out of the store yelling that the suspect in question stole something.
Adam: "I asked if he had called 911 and he said no. I suggested he call. I followed the suspect from a safe distance and reported his location to the police. They advised me against following the suspect because he may be armed with a knife. I directed police all the way to East 44th & 3rd Ave. That is where the suspect went into another Duane Reade to possibly steal more items. He then exited and police stopped him half a block away at Ben & Jacks Steakhouse. Two other police cars showed up for backup as well including a Lieutenant. He was found with multiple needles on him and other items in his backpack. He initially lied that he had stolen something from the Duane Reade at 44th & 3rd. Police went to the Duane Reade at 39th & 2nd. The staff said they wanted the items returned and didn't want to press charges."
"Today's your lucky day," said an NYPD Lieutenant, who informed the suspect that Duane Reade wasn't pressing charges. After looking up the suspect in their NYPD job phone, police discovered he was wanted for a bench warrant for not showing up to court. He was then immediately handcuffed and taken into custody.
