Yes there was some risky material there but the worst was Martin Lawrence in 1994. They banned him from the show and that episode was never aired again unedited. I had the pleasure of seeing it live with my mom and sister. It was very uncomfortable watching with them. Martin talked about women not "washing their asses properly" and giving women oral sex while they had a yeast infection and "coming up with dough on your damn lip". It was hilarious but bad.....My mother actually wrote a letter to NBC about how offended she was...she doesn't do stuff like that so that was a big deal.

Therefore the impersonator would have to be offending someone, In this case the person being impersonated. All good comedy has to push some type of boundary, if they don't then it's just some lame ass story being told

But to your point of CK taking on the 3 taboo subjects of "racism, religious hatred and child molesters;" I'm assuming the "religious hatred" subject you're referring to is CK's bit on Israel/Palestine. I don't consider that subject to be about religious hatred, but that's besides the point I wanna make here. Sure, racism and pedophilia are kinda taboo and it's of course difficult to do genuinely funny, insightful stand-up on those topics. CK does it here. Burr, Chappelle, Silverman have done it. However, imo, Israel/Palestine is a MUCH more taboo subject than the other two, and is also more difficult to make funny. Palestine has been essentially my concern for quite a while so it's very difficult to get me to laugh on the topic. But forgetting the whole "comedy craft" thing for a minute, I'm absolutely blown away that CK even broached that subject, let alone gave it 2 and 1/2 minutes, in his LIVE stand up from NEW YORK. It took major league balls to do what he did last night. Evidenced by the nervous laughter he got from the joke about what Israel does w/ the missiles we sell Israel (i.e.: kill 500 children in a few weeks last summer...). Or this: "The little one's like Palestine 'cuz she always gets screwed. She gets the worst deals." Brass balls saying that on live TV. How long 'til ADL and the Brandeis Center put CK on their list of dangerous anti-Semites? As simplistic as the bit might have been in terms of the actual conflict (unavoidable of course in 2 minutes...), my hat's off to Louis CK for not cutting that from the monologue. If he had to have it approved before air I've got to assume he got some major push back on it. Anyway, sorry to "derail." The biggest laughs for me came w/ the pedophile bit. I think I woke my neighbors. No seriously. Absolutely hilarious...

The way that Louis throws himself on the pyre is definitely rare, and maybe even unique. His ability to frame his scumbag thoughts (we all have'm) and occasionally take some heat for trying (usually very successfully) to make some truly fucking awful shit funny as hell is part of what makes him a far-more-than-tolerable pervert (which he also certainly is). Glad to see that his hiatus didn't last long - hope to catch his act asap.

I laughed immediately as soon as he said it, and i laughed even harder when i heard the reaction of the audience because i know its a very fucked up thing to say, but it being fucked up doesn't mean its not funny. I laughed so hard when he was trying to explain his joke nervously xD I'm honestly against this type of comedy if its done by someone who isn't a professional comedian, it will only be hurtful to other people and will make you look like an asshole and it won't be funny at all. But if its done by a professional, it will make you look like a hilarious asshole, which is something i admire.

He's often discussed how the seemingly off the cuff, "improvised" looking additions to certain jokes are in fact designed to look that way from the very start. But I don't think that would exactly apply to some of the anxiety you see/hear in his face/voice in this monologue. He knows he's on the precipice of either hearing them all laugh or boo & it's just as likely for either to happen, especially that last bit... After all it's not just him fuckin' around at a random comedy club where the stakes are low & he can experiment, it's a friggin 40th anniversary SNL season finale.

I'm technically a mentally disabled adult, autism, and I'm stuck in the same mentally abusive situation for going on 5 years. I could easily solve it, but I'm afraid of what most people don't understand and some things they do. It was made worse by a few deaths of friends and family, and this person just keeps steadily making things worse...especially if I say that it's bothering me. Most of my so called friends just gave up even talking to me because I can't go see them. Once you're a fully developed adult, you're on your own to watch yourself crumble from stress.
