"Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds" - Bhagavad-Gita
"Said cryin' won't help ya, prayin' wont do ya no good..." - Memphis Minnie
When The Levee Breaks is an old delta blues song about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. It was written by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy in 1929, 42 years later, Led Zeppelin stole it from them and used it as the closing track for Led Zeppelin 4.
Well, to rip off Bono:
“I’m stealing it back….“
It's a very dark song.
But from death comes life.
It all worked out great in the end for Minnie and Joe's legacy too.
Original Version by Mephis Minnie and Kansas Joe: • Kansas Joe McCoy and M...
Recent collaborative / global version led by John Paul Jones, Led Zepplin's bassist. It's stunning: • When The Levee Breaks ...

If I understand something, only drums and lyrics are similar to the LZ version and the rest is absolutely new.

They stole most of their early stuff from 1920's and 30s blues players. This isn't a Zeppelin song - they just made it famous. I like it, because it's beautiful and it's also apocalyptic - like life itself: "Cryin won't help ya, prayin won't do ya no good...when the leveee breaks.....mama, ya got ta MOVE..." ;-)

@@TheWilliamHoganExperienceI don’t think that is stealing as art cannot exist without someone being influenced by something or else everything would be “stolen”, because no one just comes up with ideas out of nowhere - the band classify their music as blues rock, gives credit to original owner in writers section, PLUS their cover of it are like no other. I think that is original work and classifying it as a work of plagiarism would be so disrespectful :) Your cover sounds great btw. You added your creativity and that makes this recording your song, just an opinion :)
