You barely made a dent and showing how bad the Portland area of West Louisville is. I live down here and I can tell you that your video isn't showing enough.
When you are from here, its beautiful. Even at night. No clout, shout out to 21st from west side Dixie. I try to visit fam as much as I can. Much love 502 #(ck) common knowledge
@Bronson Mccorry I agree i watch a video where he was in a Chicago alley interviewing two dudes one of them pulled a draco out of a backpack im like charlie a brave soul lol.
I love my city…. However, Murders have been more frequent in certain areas over the last 2-3 years. It is sad - I have found though; white or black, most people in Louisville will give you respect as long as you respect them. Typically if you’re not looking for trouble you won’t find it. You can’t say the same for other cities worse off. I’ve been all over the city and haven’t had any issues (* knock on wood.) I swear the southern hospitality really is a thing with most people in this state/city. I also know 2 of my friends, who are young and attractive women that live alone have not had any issues and they both live in 2 of the areas on this video. They let their dogs out at night, etc. with no problem whatsoever. With everything that happened in 2020, especially the Breonna Taylor case, tensions are very high. Just always remember that whatever side you find yourself on, you can agree to disagree and live amongst each other/respect each other.
Lol just got my car stoked on Bardstown road infront of my face... Remember. Your personal experiences doesn’t mean that’s everyone else’s... Just like playing the lottery... Not to mention how many thugs tried to fight me playing basketball at Seneca or Iroquois park as a kid just cause I was crossing them... Louisville is full of dumb asses.. Especially at the Thornton’s off 2nd and Broadway... Nothing but crack heads try to make a buck.
@@Tom-mx4eq fam he was talking about in general. And everyone knows you go hard at those two parks when it comes to ball. Our passion for basketball is legendary. Red or blue. I've lived and been in Portland. Half my family is down there. And in general I agree with OP. I've walked Portland at all times of the day and night. I've never got robbed. Same with newberg and beech n Terence back in the day. Never a problem. And I'm not black so I stand out. I'm more scared of the cops stopping me than people. And yes I agree with you also. There are jackings. But that happens everywhere even in st Mathews and Middletown. I'm sorry you got robbed but the ville is safer than most cities even in the worst part. Southern hospitality is real here and we as a whole respect and love each other. That includes all colors here also.
That's how most hoods are I'm from NYC and walked everywhere...I never walked around like I'm the shit but never walked with my head down and always showed common courtesy...real recognize real
those of us that are from portland think it is absolutely hilarious that people not from there find it scary or see it as bad. we got problems just like everyone else does, but really as long as you mind your business and don't mess with anybody's shit we could care less about anybody.
@@geezy3137 Yep. It's a problem that needs to be addressed. Give these people some place to go. It seems they let them stay anywhere until Derby time. Then they cut the highway grass, pick up the trash, and kick the homeless out. It's a double edged sword. I know WHY they do it, but have a heart.
The alley out back may look shady, but out front you may see window boxes and pretty shutters. Poor people do the best with what they can afford. (Born and raised in Louisville) I've lived downtown, south end, west end and east end and central area. Good people everywhere.
isn’t that near uofl / where the train tracks are? had to go near that area 3 in the morning just to get back to lex and i wished i had taken another route
Every city and community has its ups and down. Louisville has picked itself up, brushed itself off and continued improving after each setback. It's already happening now. I've been working downtown through all of this and frankly, my sadness comes from the loss of small businesses, mostly restaurants - family owned places that had been around for decades and the homeless camps that have tripled in the last 10 years. For the largest part, Downtown is clean, open for business and safe. Our company goes "back to work" full time starting Tuesday. All of those bodies downtown equals commerce. Give it time.
@@zacstephens8106 I work downtown EVERY day. I didn't say there weren't pockets where homeless camps and junkies set up camp - I said it's improving and I said it was safe. I'm not afraid to walk around, I'm not afraid of who I will encounter. It is clean and it's not a place to avoid, unless you can't understand that it's also imperfect. I've seen people shooting up in the mall's parking lot, I've seen people shooting up at gas stations in rural areas. I've seen needles in the Parklands, in schools playgrounds, etc. Drugs - especially heroine - are not singular to this city or any city. It's absolutely everywhere. If that is your argument, then it's shortsighted.
@@robynobrien744 go to Middletown and catch needles and people shooting up. Or prospect, crestwood.. I live across the river and jeffersonville for all of my life and never once experienced eventho jeffersonville isn't the cleanest place ethier.
@@robynobrien744 any place that has drugs and needles is not a clean place at all. Yes places will have trash on the ground but if you have 15 junkies chilling outside a thortons. No its not clean
Oh wow, I haven't seen any of this since I moved back to Ga. Louisville, I can't believe it's been almost 11yrs since leaving here. I became a Cardinal Fan and I'll always be a Cardinal Fan.😁😁😁
I’m from Chicago but Louisville got some Shiesty ass lil streets. @3:38 man I would not want to drive around them blocks. I Gotta keep my eyes open at all times where I’m from. Louisville looks shady ass hell.
I feel the same about Chicago Louisville is different tho if you don’t start anything it’s cool people will welcome you in Chicago you might die just because you’re not from there
I’ve seen many things on these streets, all over. The rest of the world doesn’t seem much different anymore. Rebuild n unite. All we can do at this point
My aunt grew up in a area that is now considered the hood in Louisville, she said that back then it was a beautiful place, but nowadays you can’t go out without seeing someone dying, also anyone else here from Louisville?
Im a 40 year old white dude and I'm not scared of park hill. I used to go collect money for Aaron's sales and lease. Never was disrespected but then again i wasnt disrespectful towards anyone. Same with Beecher Terrace.
@@werenotfree4841 You can start by educating them on the scope of the First Amendment because I've yet to see a First Amendment Auditor who understands the actual amendment. I suspect that you're just as clueless as they would be. Plenty of legal and educational resources to help you not look like a stupid sovereign citizen.
I was born and raised in Carol city miami and little Haiti been in louisville for 15yrs now love it here and the hood here ain't nothing like where I grew up but you never know how things go down but man I love this city more than miami...
Great video brother 👍 I have lived in eastern ky ( pike County) my entire life but have been to Louisville several times and been through this entire area. Same as where I live, really nice people. Just don't look for trouble and everything is fine. I've never had trouble with anyone there anyways
I was born and raised in louisville. Grew up in southwest Jefferson County. Prp area. Even that area has gotten pretty rough. Growing up in the 70s and 80s. It was great. Didn't even have to lock your doors. Beings there was 6 of us kids I don't think we even had a key to the house door. Didn't have to worry about it
I was stationed at Fort Knox, KY during the 80's which is about 45 miles away from Louisville. I had to be extra careful driving around the hoods during that time. They had some very pretty women living there back in those days but every once in while the guys became jealous about messing with their women.
I found it to be a rather refreshing change of pace the Louisville hoods are fairly well integrated with both black and white. Also impressed the hood streets of Louisville seem to be in much better shape than the other hoods I've seen on here. Bottom line, Louisville has the nicest looking and safest looking hoods of any of the large American cities I've seen so far on your channel.
Most of the projects are torn down now but ride thru the west a lot of homes are boarded up. They are re-doing the city tho, mainly for more money from outsiders. Cleaning up and remodeling every thing around the stadiums and soon around Churchill
hollow noun A small, sheltered valley that usually but not necessarily has a watercourse. The term occurs often in place names, especially informal ones, as Hell's Holler (NC) and Piedy Holler (TN). [ DARE labels this pronunciation holler as “chiefly South, South Midland, especially Southern Appalachians, Ozarks”]
interesting that you would bring that up. I was just visiting my people in West Virginia a few weeks ago and I came away comparing it to a "country ghetto." A lot of the problems are the same or similar. They're just more spread out in the country side.
Folks that say this is so terrible.. you have not seen bad neighborhoods where there is not one single tree or patch of grass, no yards... housing that looks like a prison, like NYC or San Francisco before they got rid of the projects there... Here there are single family houses, with yards with trees.... this is good living for someone like myself that grew up in a city.
Right? I'm from Lexington area and it's insane how much crime happens here anymore. Idc what people think or say, how "country" they think this state is, blah blah. You don't mess around in certain parts of these cities, especially at night when it's hot outside.
@@jeremiahallyn4603 coming from someone who doordashes all over lexington, it definitely hasn’t gotten any safer here within the past few years. worst experiences were having to deliver to winburn and places right off of east new circle. still and really grateful that i don’t live in louisville tho
@@tito6870 I wouldn't wanna be in the Georgetown St area or the areas around E. 5th, 6th and 7th St at certain times either. As you said, still better than Louisville tho lol.
@ G mister i know that they are two different cities but it still dangerous especially if you let your gaurd down or dont mind your business lex town aint no push over city either just like louisville aint no push over city lex town & the ville are the two most dangerous cities in the ky & thats facts
It's awesome seeing you drive through my city, Charlie. Born & raised in Louisville and I can't bring myself to move away for some reason. LOL Louisville is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It does have its bad areas (what city doesn't?) but I feel safe enough to go anywhere & am confident that I wouldn't be messed with or harrassed for no reason. We keep to ourselves for the most part and just wanna live life and not be bothered by nonsense. Have a great day, stay safe & take care everyone!
@@rikkistephenson1635 that's funny! I rarely see anything or anyone from KY, let alone Louisville, here on RU-vid so I did a double take when I saw the title. Lol
Thank you CharlieBo313. Louisville, KY has been recovering from a very dark time in our city. Louisville is a good city. And some not so good. Peace Brother
I lived there my whole life too. moved away from Louisville 4 years ago to Fort Lauderdale. Best decision I ever made, I will never go back to Louisville.
I have lived in Portland my entire life and frequent the Boone's store regularly. There is crime and violence but if you mind your own business and keep your doors locked you'll be fine.
I grew up in mountains Eastern Kentucky around Hazard...trust me Louisville has already had over 110 murders this year and just early July, Places you are talking about probably have 10 maybe 15
@@leepridemore2162 yea I'm from breathitt an have fam in Harlan an hazard ect. Yea of course Louisville is going to have more murder an all that bs. But them hills ain't nothing to play with. Alot of murders go unnoticed and unheard of. And those eastern KY hills has a weird connection to alot of major cities. You don't go down there acting a fool because you will end up missing. 💯
I do Uber Eats as a side job I be delivering down here a lot.. I used live a couple blocks over from here when I was a kid lol it’s hood asf and I keep a gun but I keep a gun anywhere in this city, these areas ain’t as bad as many make Em out to be. Like if u just minding your business and stay strapped, u be aight 🤷🏻♂️
Smh you aren’t gonna just get murdered for no reason.... I mean maybe carjacked but in that case I wouldn’t even pull a gun a cars not worth my life lol
I don't think I would be a well-rounded, experienced, prepared or compassionate had I not grown up in this city. I have so many relatives that live in rural Kentucky and they always come across as sheltered, barely in touch with the communities and politics outside the clean bubble. I love our city and its people.
Portland is where most of Louisvilles low income white people live or from, so let's not think that that's all black neighborhoods are ghetto there are dangerou white neighborhoods and you just seen them.
This needs to be taken down. It has a minor on here that should not be on here…who is my niece. And trust and believe that neighborhood isn’t “one of the worst neighborhoods”
What? It's all public spaces. People are well within their right to converse wherever they want. Have you been inconvenienced by conversations while you're driving through this area lately? I'm willing to be the answer is "No."
Had to upvote you. Another poster above said similarly to what you said. That view of entering Louisville just look so cool, unlike ANY of the cities that he's drove into. But it's how Louisville is well structured that gives this beautiful scene as you drive into it. 🙂
@@Charlesbjtown you would be sooo surprised its not all surfers and hula hula girls ….we got some ghettos up in here...not mainland ghettos like Detroit but we got some shady shiz.....(besides, you need a vacation, YES you do...don't lie) hahaha Aloha 🤙🤙
Louisville has already had 100 homicides and it's halfway through the year. I bet they will beat the record homicide rate from last year. Even Lexington has had more murders this year than last year at this point. Pretty sad in my opinion 😕
Just gonna play 5 min of highway? 🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ then proceeds to drive through impoverished neighborhoods... what was the point of this? Kentucky has poor areas in the inner city. It also has poor areas in Appalachia but you won't go up there exposing the economic deficiency in those white communities. Let me rephrase that... you SHOULDN'T go up there... cause u might not make it out.
@@tashaherron4456 thank you. I'm from Kentucky and I see poverty, drugs, prostitution, violent crime and lack of education in BOTH communities. Which means it is an economic issue NOT a race issue. If you gonna "roll through hoods" roll through ALL of them... don't just exploit our communities...
I love how this dude showed the contrast or distraction the city skyline creates and makes you believe the city is more beautiful and clean when in reality there is still filth, muck and garbage strewn about the city aka the people and where/how they live.
@@BinkieJarret Highlands is nowhere near what it used to be. Back in the day people were just smoking weed. Now it's heroin and fentynal. Tweekers everywhere and a lot of burglaries
Louisville has both a mid west and a southern vibe. Probably a little more southern. It also has a weird vibe all it's own lol, if that makes sense. The people seem cool too. There hoods are also pretty diverse in most areas.
This is one of the rare cases where the city wasnt burned down to the ground during the chaos last year unlike in Seattle, Minneapolis, DC and Portland. There may be lots of people in the hood who were very angry at that time but they didn't cause a lot of damage to this city. And that tells me a lot. that even the poorest of Louisville, still has love for the city they grew up in.
@@sportstalkwithzo3707 Louisville folks even the hood people didnt burn this city down during last year's chaos It was left pretty much intact unlike Seattle and Portland. So kudos to the folks of Louisville. They maybe in the hood but they still showed love to their city
You must not be from the Louisville because everyone who lives here knows Portland is not the worst area. You went to Village West still not even the worst area in Louisville, now Parkhill I give you some credit I wouldn’t even go there at night got to go there during the day because they still sleep.
Hope you enjoyed cruising thru the hoods of my city.....if you pay attention you can see my Plug walking out his crib in the projects as dude drives by lol. He got a kick out of that!
I am from Chicago. And what he is showing is ours suburbs. Go to Chicago. And you see some really mess up places. Peace and be careful. And don't get caught in the wrong hood. ✌✌
