I've lived in Louisville almost all of my life and almost 90% of resident's that I know have never visited Churchill Downs on Derby Day.. the Kentucky Derby is actually a two-week festival of many activities that are way cheaper if not free... Derby is the finale and it cost most..

We have fresh seafood because UPS flight hub is in Louisville. Not only do they fly in freshly caught fish, I've heard that there are large live-wells used for transporting fresh farmed fish. It's pretty wild that a landlocked city could be serving you "the catch of the day" seafood.

Live in Louisville. Do: Visit the riverfront. Great parks, spraygrounds, walk across the river on an old train bridge. Free fun! Don’t: Be knowledgeable about where you are. Western Louisville is not a good place to go if you’re a tourist, Louisville has a bad crime problem that seems to be getting worse each year. Downtown is pretty safe, just be careful going west. I’ve spent a good amount of time in those neighborhoods, not a place for a tourist to be.

I will add if you come here in Sept/Oct. we have the Louder than Life festival for rock/metal music. As far as corrections...you can call it The Derby (most of us do....even if we don't go), I've never met anyone who actually likes a mint julep and I've lived here 40+ years, and we are southern (if you want midwest cross the river....it's there for a reason). Also, as someone else in the comments already mentioned, we care more about college basketball than we do about horses. The UK/UofL dream game is probably marked on more calendars than Christmas (Dec. 22nd this year if you're curious).

Excellent video! Much more positive than I thought it was going to be, going on the title. I'm not a native, but have lived here for 17 years, so I can offer some input. Yes, we have patience when people don't know how to pronounce the name of the city, but that patience tends to run out at "Lewis-ville". Do *not* call it that. There are other Louisvilles in the U.S. that do pronounce it that way, but not this one. The Frazier Museum and the Science Center are definitely worth a stop, especially if you're here with kids. There's a museum pass, called Main Ticket, you can get that works at multiple museums and saves you a money over paying each museum's admission individually. I love how you strategically placed the stop light when you filmed the giant David downtown, lol. Yes, folks, he is two stories tall and anatomically correct. The best park system is the Parklands of Floyds Fork on the far east side of the city. Tons to do for all abilities and ages. Do not tell a Louisvillian that Louisville isn't a southern city! Louisville very much thinks it's The South. The riverfront is definitely worth a stop. We have no fewer than 3 bridges that allow pedestrians on them so you can walk from Kentucky to Indiana. Definitely take the Big Four Bridge over to Jeffersonville's beautifully redeveloped downtown. A ride on the 107-year-old Belle of Louisville is another highlight. I think one thing about Louisville that might surprise the most people is that it really is a wonderful food city. Tons of different nationalities and cuisines to choose from. On of my favorites is an Ethiopian place near Bowman Field. And there's a Chinese restaurant with actual Chinese fare, like chicken feet! Seriously, whatever your taste, you'll find a restaurant here to fit the bill. We're not just fried chicken and sweet tea. You were very kind in the way you mentioned staying safe. Louisville has suffered some bad press recently, and, unfortunately, the city does, like any big city, have its problems. Yes, we definitely have a homeless problem, and crime on the west side of town (west of 9th Street) has gotten out of hand. But, any big city will have its issues, and Louisville is no different. Come to Louisville! There's a ton to do here, and you'll get some great food.

I think the most important rules tend to be transportation related. Don't rely on busses in the city. We do not have anything close to the public transportation infrastructure for a city of this size and land area. At the same time, if you want to explore the Highlands, get an uber. The area is one or the most walkable parts of the city, but it is a nightmare to drive, and there isn't a surplus of parking. Get them to drop you off, walk, explore. Hit the side streets. Old Louisville isn't the only place with beautiful Victorian architecture. Don't think you can't get good food in strip malls. We have a surprising number of truly great places that people are reluctant to try because of their location.

Many of the distilleries further out are very interesting to tour. The countryside ("horse country") is so beautiful. Drive by Lane's End to see where Queen Elizabeth has horses. Stop by Old Friends Farm to visit retired racehorses. See the Falls of the Ohio at the waterfront for the fossil beds (free! Bring a lunch). The best view of Lville is crossing the river from Indiana at night, be sure to do that at least once. Bardstown Road is fun not just for some of the best food in the city, but super fun, quirky little shops. Squire Boone is our favorite smaller cave spot, an hour away. Mammoth Cave is of course amazing too, a little further out. Great video of my city, Mark!

We spent alot if time in Louisiville when my youngest daughter was sick, we were there every week going to Drs and we would visit different places while we were there just to make her experience more than just visiting the hospital or Doctors office. We went across to Jeffersonville Indiana and ate at Cluckers which was really good and we visited museums and we loved just walking around the city.

There are numerous "REAL" distilleries right in Louisville and within a very short drive of downtown Louisville. I've been to those and one, Makers Mark in Loretto, KY. I've also been to one in Nelson County, I think it was Heaven Hill but, not sure. I know they also have a presence in Louisville/Jefferson Co., KY.

Seafood in Louisville was swimming in the ocean yesterday because UPS Air Hub is in town. Most non-coastal cities get seafood from 2 days ago. Rolled oysters are big in Louisville as well as great Cod sandwiches which are prevalent at summer Catholic picnics and fish frys. Must try an original Kern’s Bakery Derby Pie (trademarked) and famous bourbon balls that were not mentioned in video. I suggest a butterkuchen at Nords bakery if non-chocolate lover’s
