Must be nice to go to prepare something in your kitchen and everything is ready to go! I don’t have that at my house! Bet someone cleans up the mess too! Honestly, I’d love to have the prep, clean up job! When I’m in my kitchen, I feel like I did when I was a child playing house in my little make shift kitchen in the corner of my daddy’s garage. My kitchen is my happy place. I really found comfort there after divorcing after 46 years of marriage. I’ve always loved my home, my kitchen, and the joys of caring for my family. Hugs!
Definitely going to try this one, Miss Paula! Only change I'll make is add some cubed, cooked potatoes and crumbled bacon for the top. Thank you for another recipe! :)
I have to try this. I was literally just talking to my cousin yesterday about some of my grandma's recipes. She use to make this stuff called Garden Garbage. It's pretty much, leftover veggies from the garden. Stewed down with some bacon and rice. And it Normally has cabbage, tomatoes, onion and green peppers in there. You could obviously add whatever you like. Either way, It's SO good. I thought it was funny that a cabbage recipe popped up on your feed today. I'm planning on making stuffed cabbage this weekend too. But I may try this. It's much easier.
This looks yummy, although I think I would use rotel and add garlic. But you know a good receipe can get your mind to thinking on ideas to make a few changes. Love and best dishes ya'll
I think you could do this just on the stove top too. Just bring everything to a simmer, then pour into a dish & top with that 1 cup of cheese & cover & let sit for a couple minutes until cheese melts.
Cabbage is SO VERY GOOD for the gut. Y'all should do ten minutes of research .....ALL the GOOD things this cruciferous vegetable provides, & helps us with. Absolutely amazing!! I have loved cabbage since I was very young. Have a beautiful week, y'all!! ♥️ 🌄
@@lindabegovich7463 Nope. I slice polska kilbasa, thin, fry it up in skillet first. After it has been fried, then, I add half cup to one cup of water. Then, I'll add how much cabbage is needed for 1 - 4 servings. It turns out delicious every time. My family prefers Ekridge brand for any of the meats I use. 👍🏻 🥓
I just said to myself, "I wish I could think of something to make with the cabbage in the fridge"... Then Paula said, "hold on baby girl, I got you!" Haha! Perfect timing
That’s so funny, because I have been saying that about the head of cabbage in my fridge, and then this popped up in my recommendations!!! I’m gonna make this tomorrow!!
Perfect timing Paula!!! No kidding I forgot about 2 heads of cabbage I bought last week, in the fridge…. I wasn’t sure what I was going to make with them….. now I know!! Looks so yummy!! Thank you 💕❤️
I have to say again that I am a huge fan and I just love these posts and everything you have done during the pandemic. Again.... awesome opportunity for a new cookbook!
My late husband used to love stuffed cabbage, but it's a lot of work. So, I decided to make it in a deconstructed way. One way was, I made the meat mixture (Chopmeat, onions, garlic, cooked rice, seasonings)into balls. Chop up the cabbage & cook it down about ½ way in crushed tomatoes, onions, and garlic, then add the meatballs & cook until done. The 2nd way was brown the meat with onions and garlic, drain, then add the chopped up cabbage & crushed tomatoes. Cook just until the cabbage is to your softness liking, then add your cooked rice. Stir & heat thru & serve. I only add sugar if the cabbage or tomatoes are bitter.
Hello! I am a beginner cook. I don't want to change to a different pan to stick in the oven just to melt cheese as stated in her video, plus I don't really think the cheese sounds good. I'm wondering if I skipped the cheese and just followed your instructions #2, approximately how long should I cook after adding the cabbage?
@buckybuckybeaver, it all depends on how soft or crunchy you prefer your cabbage. My late husband liked it very soft. All I can say is to try cooking it down about 15 minutes, then tasting a piece of the whiter leaves of the cabbage because the whiter part that's closer to the stem is harder & takes longer to cook. You don't have to add cheese. Paula's recipe is a casserole. You can make it Paula's way, but just don't add the cheese. If you have big pan/pot that will hold everything & you cook it until the cabbage is done but you really want the cheese on top. Then sprinke the cheese, turn the heat down low, cover the pan & cook a few more mins until the cheese melts or put the pan in the oven. It just won't be browned on top. Some pots & pans can be placed under the broiler for a minute or two. You'd have to check with the manufacturer first to see if it's oven safe & broiler safe. If yours can, then sprinkle & stick it under the broiler till lightly browned.
@@buckybuckybeaver no problem! I just happened to be looking at my phone & saw the notification. Good luck with your cooking! Practice makes perfect! Always taste your food as you are cooking to make sure your seasonings are to your liking. 🙂
@almurry8943 The small rolls of sausage or ground beef or even ground turkey...a chub! Kinda looks like 🥒👀 but more girth to it, I'm sure you've seen em!
I’m Lithuanian and we eat pierogis with fried onions & sour cream, so for this recipe you add pierogis to cabbage casserole with this one with the tomato purée/meat? I’ve never had them with any tomato sauce!! 😝 I’m 56 and been making cabbage caaaerole a lot...never thought of putting them in that or with rice/pierogis!
@@barbarastrube5088 🙌 yayyy lLithuanians!! I just got out the cabbage to make some! I remember my grandmom and mom sitting around making pierogis! And I went to a small church that made chicken paprikash when u bought pierogi, you could order chicken w it, h e a v e n
I think Paula forgot to add the sugar that the recipe called for...Not a big deal, because it still looked absolutely scrumptious, but it would help to cut down on the acidity from the tomatoes a little bit🍅🍅🍅...Have a great week ahead!😋😋😋😋
Personally, I am not a favor of sugar or any other sweets. Besides, pizza has a tomato sauce base too and it is not overly acidic. The cheese counter acts the acidity much as it does the tomato sauce on a pizza. I am sure some pizza places add sugar to their sauce but that is probably because so many Americans are addicted to sugar. That is why so many Americans are obese and develop diabetes.
@@trafficsignal101 That's all fine & dandy for you if you don't care for sugar...but...If you listen to when Paula read the ingredients for the recipe, it stated to add a little sugar... that's all I was pointing out....Thank you..
I've seen Leslie ( The Farmers Pastor's Wife ) make this cabbage casserole before and she has a RU-vid channel too. She's the sweetest Christian lady. I'm not sure if this is the same Leslie I'm thinking about though. 🤔 I've heard The Farmers Pastor's Wife mentioned Paula on her channel as well. I love the recipes. It looks delicious !! Thank you for sharing Paula. 😊👍
Wow thats great!! Where I live the gardens did terrible this year especially mine. We have 32 tomato cages so we have that many plants spent a ton of time w them and it still went terrible. I only got about 12 quarts and 6 pints canned.😒 But im glad to hear someones garden did well!!
@@janetgrooms4008 oh ok. Its soooo irritating. My hubby thinks the government is doing something to the plants. Lol. We grow other vegetables but mainly care about the tomatoes. Plus our soil here in Alabama is not great, mainly red clay. I dont even know if were gonna try again this spring or not. Probably just do like you did, Go buy a couple of bushels.
I agree! NO SUGAR! Cook onions with meat and yes ground turkey would give it all the sweetness it needed but even doing a blend of turkey and beef would also be very yummy. That’s how I make my chili sometimes, turkey and beef. I know it sounds odd, but it really does work.
Miss Paula, years ago we went to the Dillard House. (Don't even know if they are still around) they had a casserole that I thought was Cabbage (or it might have have been squash or onion ??) They had lots of cabbage growing nearby so I thought it was cabbage. Anyway that was the best dish there. OH IT WAS ALL GOOD !!!!!! If you know what I'm talkin about maybe you have that recipe. I haven't been there in at least 20 years but I still remember how good it was. Broccoli casserole is good too !!! Thanks for all your hard work !!!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸✌🏻❤️ 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Paula you left out the teaspoon of sugar which I guess is optional. This is such a easy recipe and Iwould probably make this without the cheese and like someone said eat some boiled potatoes in it or on the side.
Paula, I made #NewBrunswickStew because of one of your recent vids. It turned out great, except I might've tweaked it a little bit lol. For example, I added five small russet potatoes and some carrots and celery. I'll be making this again, but with a whole chicken I boiled, using the broth, like I did this time.
Why not finely chop the green leaves you set aside and put them in with the ground beef at the beginning of cooking to cook through ahead of adding the other ingredientsf???????????
The best meal, though receipies differ from one place to another, mum used to stuff it with mints meat and rice and then poured lemon, garlic and dried mints mixed all in chicken or beef stocks. The outcome is soury sauce with the sweet taste of cabbage.
We make stuffed cabbage rolls with pretty much the same ingredients, but this sounds like a bigger winner because it's a casserole. Doing it this way next time. Thank you Paula.
The cabbage roll casserole I use is exactly the same, except it calls for 2 cups of cooked rice as well. (I got the recipe from my aunt in 1984.) [BTW my aunt's recipe said quart of crushed tomatoes...32 oz]
Paula, thank you so much for these cooking videos....just love your team! You had the very best cooking show that ever was...and please tell Michael how much I enjoyed reading his book!
Nice lower carb dish. I'd skip the sugar like Paula did, sauté the onions with the beef, add garlic and maybe some other spices, and drastically reduce the salt. Yum!
A lot of people use just a small amount of sugar when they cook cabbage because it can be bitter sometimes. It’s a negligible amount and you won’t taste it. And cauliflower is great to use to make this a low carb dish if you’ve cut down on carbs bc of dietary restrictions. I use cauliflower rice in my cabbage rolls and it tastes great.
Looks delicious. Your home and those colors looks so fresh and and nautical, that wall color in the room behind your kitchen. Those countertops! BEAUTIFUL!
Eddie. I remember when you demonstrated stuffed cabbage rolls on an earlier video, that was pretty close to how we made them. But.....For this version of deconstructed stuffed cabbage, no cheddar cheese and definitely need some rice!
I made this recipe with some minor adjustments (ground turkey, one can of ro-tel, one onion, shredded raw cabbage in food processer and cooked it right in the ground meat and onion mixture for a few minutes before putting it into the casserole dish); only added cheese to the top - huge hit and very, very light and healthy.
What a creative way to use up left over cabbage from St. Pat's Day. Just the right combination of beef, cabbage, onion, crushed tomatoes and cheese. It's a winner!! Thanks for sharing. Be well.
It's so nice to see Michael helping you...I wish my husband could do that....he had a brain bleed and his hands can't hold heavy any more....love you Paula
Tasted great, I only had a Chinese cabbage and I should have added it raw to the meat and onions, I had two normal size cans of crushed tomatoes... next time I'll swap one for whole tomatoes and use a savoy cabbage for more flavour! A very simple and tasty meal. Thanks Paula. Best wishes from Sydney 🦘

I just have to tell you, I made this tonite, but I made it in my Instapot and added potato’s and corn to it, and made some rice to go with it, and added the cheese at the end. It came out delicious!! Thanks for passing this on and giving me a new recipe to add to my regular meals🥰 Love and appreciate you so much 🙏🙏💓💓💓
Polish cabbage rolls in a casserole Golabkis. Only polish version uses rice as filling, apple cider vinegar, sugar and tomatoe sauce. No cheese..either way, looks delishes!
Looks Delish! I’m sure it would (also) taste yummy over egg noodles. Or, as a topping for a baked potato. Any leftovers could be used as a base for a great soup - adding rice or noodles, or “as-is” with corn, or beans, okra…these kind of meals are so economical and hearty as Fall and Winter meal choices. Yum! Thanks, Paula! ❤️👏🏻
What tastes better? A lady I watched yesterday made it with cabbage, cheese, onions, mayo, butter, s & p. I think I would prefer it with what you used.
Instead of boiling the cabbage you can add the raw chopped cabbage when the meat and onions are frying. Drain, and then you can put all the mixed ingredients in the oven to melt the cheese. I don't use cheese. It's good over rice.
You dont have to boil the cabbage seperately. Just add it to your cooked ground beef mixture, along with rice and garlic.Mix in 2 cups of beef broth ,bring to a boil. Then cover and simmer on low for about 20 minutes .Thats a true one pot meal. Can also do something similar in a crockpot though you don't use any broth .
