@vincentschmitt7597 The quicker the world does away with American football, Rugby and formula one racing...and while am moaning Golf and Cricket..the better! 😅 sorry I know this is a music review. I used to have Tears for fears on 12 inch vinyl.
Even though Curt isn’t on this album, it’s arguably their 2nd or 3rd best album. Brilliant start to finish. TFF deserve to be in the Rock Hall of Fame. So underrated.
This is actually Roland Orzabel in the lead on this one. Roland sings lead for a great many of their hits. One of the main exceptions was "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" during the main parts, then they both share in the chorus. So happy that the both of them are still doing music together!
Curt Smith is the Benjamin Orr of Tears For Fears like Roland Ozabal is the Ric Ocasek of Tears For Fears. This song in concert goes up another level too.
"Call Me Mellow" is a great song of theirs that came later in their career and didn't get much attention, but in my view, it's as good as anything they did in their prime,.
If they ever read comments, they'd know. Do you need any more proof that they've never read a comment, in spite of that "drop down in the comments" scam? The whole show is an act. Amber probably heard Curt's name by accident. They don't want to know more than this, because they actually don't care. It's easy money, that's all.
Suffer the Children , Roland sings that amongst many others. They both are lead singers depending on the song. Roland’s voice is a bit deeper and stronger. They are perfect together.
I don't think this song ever got all the love it truly deserved because it's an outstanding song. Great reaction to an underrated (in my humble opinion) song from Tears for Fears.
The year was 1993. I was 15 y/o. Sitting in my Dad's car going to school. Then this song came on and I immediately fell in love with it. This takes me back to those wonderful days of my youth in Miami, FL. It's funny how a song can immediately transport you to an era in your life.
“It's in the way you're always hiding from the light Fast off to heaven just like moses on a motorbike” Tear for Fears ages like fine wine. They’re so deep, the 1980s cannot cage them. Totally unpredictable music.“Mother’s Talk” is in this vibe.
Roland Orlazabal is the singer here. Curt Smith left after The Seeds of Love (think they fell out with each other) and Roland continued to use the Tears for Fears name. They have been back together for a few years now and have recorded some great stuff but it doesn't chart anymore.
Good choice! My favorite track from my #1 TFF LP. No offense at all to Curt, but Roland put out a masterpiece. Every track a banger. Saw them play this live last year and they still have the passion 🔥
I agree. I would add the song "New Star" from the "Threesome" soundtrack, which itself is loaded with tracks like General Public's "I'll Take You There". Also their song "A Woman In Chains" that prominently features Oleta Adams.
What a nice surprise! This is one of my favorite TFF songs. Saw them live a few months ago and they sound just as fresh as they did in the 80's and 90's and their newest album is phenomenal!
Rolands work on "Elemental" and on "Raoul and the Kinds of Spain" was some of my favorite TFF. I still play these records when the time is right. I haven't done a full listen to "The Tipping Point" album yet, but the single is pretty good. Both Curt and Roland are in the band again.
YEAH!!! So glad you reacted to this! Such a great song! Roland Orzabal has the absolute best voice on the planet in my opinion! ❤️❤️❤️ Wish you had shown the video! It’s terrific!
"Elemental" really should be your next Tears For Fears song. It has got such an interesting mood and soundscape to it, just like "Break It Down Again" but even more so. "Elemental" is a Roland Orzabal masterpiece.
TFF is so good! They put out a new album of all new music in 2022, and it may be their best album. Check out "Rivers of Mercy" for a healthy cry (tears?), and "My Demons" (find a live version from the US 2022 tour). This song was after Curt Smith had left the band, and Roland Orzabal kept the name. They got back together around 2001 and put out an album in 2003. Then another 17 years for The Tipping Point in 2022. They do regularly play this song in concert together, though.
So, Curt left for a little while, a couple of albums, but does return. Roland is doing all the expected TFF things, and this is a fantastic album! This is a great song, the title track "Elemental" has a moodier feel, and I love "Goodnight Song"!!
I’m thrilled they got back together and I love their new album. Roland has an incredible voice and range. Got to see them last year and this year in concert. They were amazing ❤
This was '93!! It's cool that in the early 90s we still had a big variety of music. On the one hand we had grunge, which is heavier and not upbeat, then we have something totally different like this! Also had a bunch of different stuff. I think having MTV still at this point made sure that many different styles were still being seen by a wide variety of people..unlike today.
Roland and Curt both did lead. It's hard to say who did best. Love em both. This one is Roland as lead. 90s Tears for fears is really excellent. Elemental, Raoul and the kinds of Spain.. good ones.
A gem from Tears for Fears. Roland Orzabal is the creative force behind Tears for Fears. He is an extremely talented musician. He and Curt Smith both sing for this group. Elemental from this album and The Working Hour from their album Songs From the Big Chair are worth reacting to,
I have always loved this song! I was a teenager when it was a hit on the radio; it was the first of their songs I remember hearing knowing that Curt Smith was no longer in the band. That said, I love Roland Orzabal's voice! (Roland's voice is powerful and dynamic; Curt has more of a 'pop singer' smooth voice). Curt rejoined Tears for Fears in 2000, after nearly 10 years when the two didn't speak to one another. Today, they do perform this song in concert, which is interesting since Curt wasn't part of the original recording. It's a crowd-pleaser live and Curt says he enjoys performing it anyway (he's a fabulous bass player).
Yes! Change was the first TFF song I was introduced to in 1983. 40 years later I still have that Hurting album. Suffer The Children is another good one.
Roland Orzabal was the lead singer on most of their songs. It's his vocals you hear prominently in most of their songs, including this one as Curt Smith had left the band.
ROLAND ORZABEL! The true genius behind Tears For Fears. The album Raoul & The Kings of Spain is a masterpiece. One of the best albums no one knows about.
The last album they released; The Tipping Point might be the best thing they have ever done. It’s brilliant. Check out the title track, Break the Man, Long, Long Time, the Master Plan. Can’t really go wrong with any TFF…
If I'm not mistaken, this song was TFF's last appearance in the Billboard Hot 100 in 1993 and "Elemental" was their last certified gold record in the USA. Being said that, Tears For Fears is still alive and kicking ass in 2023.
Good choice. This and the single "Raoul and the Kings of Spain" (title track of the next album) are both still great tracks after the end of the peak TFF period of the 80s and the departure of Curt Smith, where you can still really appreciate Roland Orzabal's vocals, and enjoy the layers of sound.
There's something about this song, Collins's "Something Happened On The Way To Heaven" and Simply Red's "Something Got Me Started" that amps me up and makes me think it's gonna be a fine day😃
They're good, right? Pure talent. Every song starts with a blank page. Amazing what some folks can do with that blank page. All of us should fill the page the best we can--those are the flowers that we produce.
My favorite song on Elemental is Brian Wilson Said, well worth a listen. A personal favorite, it reminds me of tough time but a good outcome. Goodnight Song too.
I remember this was their first album and hit after a 5 year hiatus, taking a break but also fully focusing on their future songs, sounds and hits. I was in my truck in the early 90s when the DJ on the radio said after 5 years away from the spotlight here's some brand new Tears for Fears.
Very underrated song from this band IMO. Jay, I didn't think Oklahoma was going to pull it out but they did. I know what it's like to live and breathe college football every Saturday, being a UGA fan. Go Dawgs!
My girls were bouncing off the walls. They are Rock N Roll hall of famers in my book. So many great memories and they were fun live. Speaking of Sting "All this time" was another fun song. I know you will get to that one. Be well guys...
After this album came out, my bother, brother in law and me went to see TFF in concert. Although the concert was incredibly loud and I was disappointed that Curt Smith had left the band, it was still the most memorable time with this amazing band and Roland’s prowess.
If you like this track, from the period when Tears for Fears was mostly a Roland Orzabal solo-project, you should check out 'Raoul and the Kings of Spain’. It's another banger.
Very few people will understand the Hermetic meaning of these lyrics. When I first heard this song I intuitively/ instinctively knew what it was about but I didn't fully get it. Years later ( many ), when I woke up a bit, overcame my human emotional pains ( mostly ), cast away the illusion I placed on myself, came back round to my true self, and was educated properly on the subject matter I finally got it. And I'm still amazed, and humbled. He is not just a musician, he is a hermetic monk and a person of deep wisdom. I'm being secretive for a reason. But if anyone wishes to start to understand what it means, read one or both of Fulcanelli's ( the great teacher ) books; Mystery of the Cathedrals or Dwelling of the Philosopher's. psst, the album is called Elemental for a reason.
Tears For Fears - *Sketches Of Pain* - a masterpiece off his 2nd solo album from the album 'Elemental' check *'Cold'* & *'Fish Out Of Water'* for great rock vibes truly every single song from every album is amazing
Curt did not perform on this album. Noted session bassist Gail Ann Dorsey took over on the bass, and you can see her in at least two videos from this album (this track and "Goodnight Song").
So happy you finally got to this one . One of their BEST! So Roland Orzabal sings this one . , Shout , Head Over Heels , Sowing the Seeds. Of Love and Mother’s Talk (
