When Paul writes to Timothy, his warning and encouragement is in line with the common spiritual opportunities that we all need to be aware of. The spirit we’ve received is one of power, love, and self-control, each as important as the others. Prof. Wright suggests that all three need to work together as we work for the gospel, even if all three may sometimes seem to be in tension.

I never cease to admire how Prof. Wright can cover so much ground in such a finite amount of time. The Lord truly gives his own wings as eagles to redeem the time. The night is indeed far spent, after all.

Excellent and Encouraging! I like the way his amplified translation of "self-control" expands the meaning into a lifestyle expressing power and love.

I've watched another lecture on RU-vid in which Professor Wright casually mentions he is working on a book about the Holy Spirit, if I understood it right. I am so looking forward to it, I can't wait to read it. I pray that Professor Wright receives all the inspiration from Above he needs for such a task. I pray that he may be blessed and all his beloved ones, and I feel so grateful that he keeps on writing such inspired and deeply needed reflections on the Holy Scriptures. Thank you very much indeed, I can't find the right words to express my gratitude for the writing material and the small pills of prayerful reflection we can find on this channel.

Thank you for your thoughtful and kind words and prayers for Professor Wright. While we're not directly involved with Professor Wright's book projects, we do know that he has recently focused on the Holy Spirit, particularly in his treatment of Romans 8. This chapter is often referred to as the "heart" of Romans, and it's where Paul speaks powerfully about the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers. Wright explores how the Spirit brings life, freedom, and assurance of our adoption as children of God, making Romans 8 a central text for understanding the Spirit's work in our lives. Professor Wright has a book and an online course on this subject. If you're interested in exploring his reflections on the Holy Spirit, you might find these resources especially insightful. Here's a link to the course we offer at N.T. Wright Online: www.admirato.org/courses/heart-of-romans?portfolioCats=50%2C52%2C49%2C51 We've also developed a free Bible plan based on this work, too: www.admirato.org/courses/standing-in-humility-and-hope Thank you again for your support and prayers. Thank you for stirring some thoughts. I so enjoy these tea breaks. Must remember that all these qualities are the fruit of the Spirit, not something to put our minds on to do. This is about the maturing of our faith, not our thinking. So Paul wrote Timothy to, "fan into the flame the gift of God," speaking of this "sincere" faith relationship with the Spirit of God that Timothy received. Isn't there a difference between pursuing what is right (noble qualities), and pursuing God's own heart (faith)? Concentrate on the second, and the first will slowly be realized.

I love it. Where in Scotland can I find a church where the Gospel and the Word of God are preached in this way?

I think most religious scholars consider Titus and 1 and 2 Timothy to be forgeries, I.e., Not written by Paul, but written by proponents of the views of the early Catholic Church in the name of Paul.
@NTWrightOnline
@NTWrightOnline 2 месяца назад
It’s true that some scholars question the authorship of Titus and 1 and 2 Timothy, suggesting they might have been written by followers of Paul rather than Paul himself. It's worth noting that in the time period of the New Testament, writings sometimes reflected the teachings of a leader through their followers, who might have penned letters to preserve their teachings. This practice was common and, if applicable here, offers a broader perspective without threatening the integrity of New Testament studies. Professor Wright also explains that some controversies over authorship often stem from traditional expectations and theological developments in history. However, with the insights gained from historical contextual scholarship, our understanding of 1st-century Jewish Christianity has introduced important correctives to some less historically informed views of Paul. This has expanded our view of Paul's work to include theological concepts aligned with a 1st-century Paul, helping us better see him as the author of letters that were previously suspect. For a deeper exploration, we recommend N.T. Wright’s "Paul and the Faithfulness of God," which is part of his magnum opus series "Christian Origins and the Question of God." --NTW Online Team

@@NTWrightOnline recent scholarship has shown that those practices were NOT common and that they were considered forgeries and frowned upon during that time as well. This has been a common refrain that it was an accepted practice - please provide some examples because I think there are few to none available. Also, I think most scholars only agree that 7 of Paul’s letters were in his hand, the rest are dubious and/or outright forgeries. Further many New Testament scholars think with the exception of those 7 Pauline letters and Revelation, that all the books in the NT are either forgeries or written by someone other than the named author (e.g, the 4 gospels).
