The part where he's talking to his mom after he's forced to come out hurts so much because I know that my family members would never say anything like that to me, and I'll never be able to be safe around them if I come out, so I have to keep hiding.

I have a 14 year old son who is gay. He dont know I ( we, me and the dad ) know, but I am just waiting for him to talk to me, I am waiting to see him exhale. Because it´s just like she says, I have seen him holding his breath for years and I hope he gets to exhale soon. I am so sorry for what you have been through. I've seen this movie so many times and not once have I been able to get through the scene with his mom telling him he gets to "exhale now" without literally sobbing. I'm not talking one tear falling, just full on ugly-crying haha I came out to my mom as bi when I was 17 and I was so terrified; I had already gone through that thing where every single discussion you have with a parent you have this weird voice begging you and almost forcing you to blurt it out but i'd resisted it for YEARS. What gave me the final push was that I had started dating this girl (first wlw relationship, so a pretty big deal) and had written this song about her and about being queer. I'd performed the song at my senior class end-of-school day (I was already out at school), and I was extremely proud of it, more than any song I'd ever written before, and I really wanted my mom to be able to watch the video of my performance (she knew I'd performed an original song and it's gone really well, so she wanted to see it, too). I told her I had something I needed to tell her before I showed her the video, and I just came out like that and told her about my girlfriend. She told me she didn't understand it, but accepted me and loved me regardless, and she listened to my song and told me it she loved it and thought it was my best one yet. Haven't had the courage to come out to anyone else in my family yet (it's been 5 years) because I'm still very scared, not so much of them not accepting me, just of feeling so emotionally vulnerable (also my step-dad is kinda homophobic and he would get mad at me for not telling him cause he'd feel like an asshole for being so openly micro-aggressive in front of me for so long, and I don't want to have to have that whole discussion with him) and like I'm baring my soul. It feels like too much... Also, although my mom is okay and supportive, she still has those weird remarks and differences in reaction depending if I tell her I met a guy or a woman, and jsut her regularly, still, insinuating that I'm still figuring myself out and am just on the way to come out as a lesbian, (love to see the bi-erasure is still going strong), so there's that... and on top of that I've since started using she/they pronouns but that's a big no-no for all of my family so that's definitely something I won't ever be telling them about. But yeah, it's such an unfair concept, coming out. The fact that once you start, you never stop, and although it's easier with random people you meet with friends and stuff, it never stops feeling like you're holding onto something that, if you decide to say out loud, might change how someone sees you is just... so exhausting.

this movie had me sobbing on a 11hr flight.
