One of the best “historical” films ever made, 45 years later it hardly is “dated” at all. The subsequent versions are good, but don’t touch it in quality. The soundtrack is still deeply evocative and moving, and Nastassija Kinski will remain beautiful during iconic,
My grandmother showed me this movie when I was like 13. I love it and just now I finally found out what the name of the movie is. Can’t wait to watch it again. I’m hoping she still has the film so I can ask for it.
How Angel should have loved her! Alec Stoke may have created her fate, but rather than saving her, Angel ultimately sealed it. Angel destroyed Tess just as surely as Alec ever did. More than a literary beauty, Hardys' "Tess" is a heroine for all time.
The beauty of it all. Grateful that I am able to be a part of this wonderful novel. Miss Kinski takes my breath away. I am so lucky. Hello from Calgary Canada
@Janet Figley - Did you know how much Ms. Kinski resembles Sharon Tate? Sharon read the book and suggested to Polanski that it should be made into a film. He dedicated the film to Sharon and created one of the most beautiful features to ever grace the big screen.
@@HappySunshineDay Kinsi doesn't resemble Sharon. Sharon was far more beautiful. And to be honest Roman never loved her really. Otherwise he hadn't been cheated on her even when she was pregnant. He didn't even tell his children about Sharon. When interviewer asked why, he just answered ''What's the point''. Polanskiy is just selfish and manipulator. That's all. As a person. What about his moves-yes, he is talented and I don't believe that all charges of sexual abuse were true. But as for Sharon, he didn't love her.
@@poisoninyourcoffeewolvesof5182 I agree - I normally appreciate the work of the BBC but why they decided to make a new version with Atherton and Redmayne is totally beyond me.
What it mean's when she talks about lying on the grass at night & fixing on a star feeling your soul leave the body. Thomas Hardy is writing about being in the eternal now in Nature & it is also a reference about Astral projection. Purity is the most beautiful truth, yet vulnerability is the darkest.
It's curious, but very few of my female friends like this movie. Not so for me. I find it incredibly moving and would give everything I own for a woman like Tess.
A gorgeous film. The marked beauty of the world around her is somehow a terribly sad a contrast to the child's life. Loveliness is forever attacked and handicapped by an oppressive-hideous constraint. If you like this film, another that I know you would also enjoy is one made around the same time; somehow the 'feeling' is very similar- it's called 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'.
I've already watched "The French Lieutenant's Woman" and it's one of my favorite movies, but where can I watch this movie, please? Is it available somewhere online?
I love old movies! 😊 They are so much better than contemporary fims. They had much better plots, much better dialogues and overall better cinematography in general...
Youth and ego. He was a little late how special it is. Tess is such a perfect gal with worst luck. The book could have been 10 pages. They marry at 1st sight the end.. but the tragic what could've been.
The movie is beautiful but the book far better A book is always better as it has so much more content that cannot be squashed into 90 minute film. Don't let Thomas Hardy hear you say this lol
After murdering her husband,, she wearing a purple dress is not only beautiful but also sad. I'm sorry about It's hard for Tess not to live with real love.
Tess is another timeless classic like Jane Eyre, also has too many versions like most classics. Though this is only the brief, this one seems better than most recent ones...
