TWENTYSOMETHING doesn't just contain all the letters in wyoming, it contains them in order in fact, it can be anagrammed into the words TENTS, ETH, and WYOMING, and the letters of those are all found in order (though mixed up) in TWENTYSOMETHING

There are also some words that have more than 15 letters that are not in the scrabble dictionary containing the states names of connecticut, mississippi, north carolina, rhode island, and south carolina There is a 16 letter word containing connecticut which is counternarcotics For mississippi there are two words of the same length though they are quite long, they are both the longest words in the dictionary I could find which are pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis and pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis which is an alternate spelling of the first word by adding a k For north carolina, we have a 19 letter word which is anthropocentrically For Rhode island there is a 17 letter word containing it which is dehydrochorinase And lastly, for south carolina there is one 16 letter word which is ultrasonographic

@manaphylv100
@manaphylv100 6 месяцев назад
Not many, since most of them are just butchered versions or portmanteaus of real words, and they either already contain valid words or can easily be made into valid words by adding/changing one or two letters. For example, ROSELIA has at least 100 8LWs, like OVERSAIL, which itself has 3 valid anagrams. Even clunkers like XERNEAS and YVELTAL can become valid words by adding a single letter (XERANSES and TREVALLY). The only relevant or useful ones that come to my mind are UXIE (no valid 3s or 5s) and DEOXYS (deoxy is an adjective). Note I haven't played anything past Gen 6, so I don't know what the new monsters are called.

This was a fun one. ARIZONA into LAZZARONI and TENNESSEE into SEVENTEENS are two I won't forget! For the states that don't form words: CONNECTICUT - removing a C and adding an L gives NOCTILUCENT KENTUCKY - removing a Y and adding ILS gives KNUCKLIEST MASSACHUSETTS - removing HS and adding ER gives METATARSUSES (NWL only), removing HS and adding OR gives SCOUTMASTERS, and removing ST and adding IL gives THALASSEMICS MISSISSIPPI - removing an S and adding AETV gives IMPASSIVITIES and removing an S and adding HLNT gives PHILISTINISMS. Honorable mention: removing IIM and adding AEW gives PIPSISSEWAS, which is a cool word. NEW HAMPSHIRE - removing an A and adding OO gives HOMEOWNERSHIP NEW JERSEY - removing a J and adding AAHPRS gives HYPERAWARENESS NEW MEXICO - there are many equally good (fewest removals + short) paths to valid words; removing a W and adding EERTTV gives OVEREXCITEMENT. Honorable mention: removing MX and adding AV ironically gives OCEANVIEW (New Mexico is a landlocked state). NORTH CAROLINA - many equally good paths to valid words; removing NR and adding GS gives ARACHNOLOGIST NORTH DAKOTA - many equally good paths to valid words; sticking with the theme of spiders, removing KT and adding PR gives ARTHROPODAN OKLAHOMA - many equally good paths to valid words; removing an A and adding IRSW gives WORKAHOLISM and removing an O and adding EIPY gives HYPOKALEMIA PENNSYLVANIA - removing a V and adding EHL gives PHENYLALANINES RHODE ISLAND - removing an S (!) and adding a P gives PHILODENDRA and removing an I and adding an L gives LANDHOLDERS SOUTH CAROLINA - the familiar ARACHNOLOGISTS is available by removing a U and adding GS, but removing an N and adding BP gives CLAUSTROPHOBIA SOUTH DAKOTA - removing DK and adding EMR gives ATHEROMATOUS WEST VIRGINIA - removing a W and adding DET gives DISINTEGRATIVE

Do you know if they’ve made a rudimentary dictionary with 16+ letter words for giant scrabble? It’d suck to manage to get down UNCHARACTERISTICALLY or COUNTERREVOLUTIONARIES just to have it challenged off cause it’s more than 15 letters
@mackmeller
@mackmeller 6 месяцев назад
I believe the current giant Scrabble word list is just the regular dictionary (i.e. 16+ letter words are all unplayable), but there are definitely expansions that have been created for anagram puzzles and other purposes, so hopefully there will be a more official one soon

For all states that did not make up a word, it would be interesting to see how many letters you need to remove and add before you can make a word. So it would be something like the closest word to the state.

This was a lot of fun, I second another commenter who suggested doing countries as well. Maybe by continent to make it more manageable? Only other rec would be to sprinkle in some more tips (where possible) for actually using some of these crazy words in game, like you did when you mentioned COLORADO is an adjective. Example - MATAMBALA (awesome word!) might seem crazy, but if you bingo with TAMBALA you now know to keep your eyes open for the [MA] extension.
