Good heavy metal music is good heavy metal, and these ladies are GREAT heavy metal. They are metal AF and more talented than 99% of the bands out there today. Who gives a sh*t about how they look (I love their look, personally). Show me the heavy metal rulebook where it days you need to look a certain way. 🤣

I think you are fortunate to get 30 people to like your verdict because I don't see many more liking it the way you disrespect Asami's vocals is just beyond belief. Asami is an amazing singer and nothing is overproduced they play it the same way live, that's why someone asked if you ever watched a video. According to the one guy he'd only seen Stand and Deliver (Shoot 'Em Down") they have a live version so he can check to see they play it the same way. Just giving you a clue in that the hate for female singers is a thing of the past. Lovebites have earned their spot. I also don't see any other metal bands that also incorporate classical piano into their metal as done in 2020 with Swan Song with Chopin Intro also it has the piano Outtro.The piano in Empty Daydream at the beginning also is awesome.The one complaining they have only 4 albums fails to realize that since 2017 They have 4 albums also 4 EP/Singles and now 6 live albums and a collections album from 2017-2021 pre Judgement Day. By the way The single is actually more like an EP since there are 4 songs on it. Some of the best voice teachers have alot to say on Asami's singing and how much control she has and range. Any irritation you guys get out of it is the irritation of the mindset you go in with. You may want to shovel the snow in front of your driveway before trying to remove the neighbors snow don't let the log get caught in your eye take the blinders off and listen with no expectations or definitions of what it should or shouldn't be. Like a fine wine savor the flavor. ]:P Also This year they will be world wide in Spain,France at Hellfest with of all people Bruce Dickinson also there. They may get to also watch one of their idols it seems. They'll also be in Japan,Italy and the UK. Their appearance in Atlanta at ProgPower sold out in like less than an hour. They have way more peopl that love them then those who are critical of them. Just saying.........

A blatant demonstration of the extreme degree of musical incompetence and limitations. That's probably why these people took up the obviously unbearable task of commenting on the Lovebites album. Lovebites has released four studio LP's, four EP's and seven live blu-ray's in about 6 years of activity (taking into account the break). All releases are simply great in terms of technical sound quality, video and musical content. In terms of the number of blu-ray views, in my collection, they surpassed Dream Theater, which was in the first place for a long time. As for the Judgment Day album specifically, I do not know of any band that could compose and play it, and not a single vocalist who would have the breath and control to sing it. It's just a different level of musical skill.

A lot of assumptions, speculations and accusations without even knowing ANYTHING about the band. The usual gatekeeping towards something new is extremely strong here, especially from the guy on the right. I really do recommend to him staying in his club or pond or whatever dungeon and listen to the same old stuff he probably does for decades. Something not being your taste is ok, but be respectful to the artist and don´t throw clueless, silly accusations on them.

LOVEBITES is a unique band - all women, in white, singing positive lyrics yet playing as hard and as heavy as the legendary metal bands at break neck speeds - there is no other band like them today.

Thank you for your reaction to LOVEBITES. I am sure you are all familiar with "LOVEBITES", but for those who are not, I will promote it. LOVEBITES has about 60 songs. LOVEBITES was formed in 2016 by Miho(Ba) and Haruna(Dr), members of the band "DESTROSE", which went on hiatus in 2015. The girls made their major label debut in 2017 (March 24) with "THE LOVEBITES EP". On 18 June 2018, LOVEBITES won 'BEST NEW BAND' at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2018 awards organised by the British metal magazine METAL HAMMER. On 4 August, LOVEBITES performed on the W.E.T stage at WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018, one of the world's largest annual metal festivals in Germany, with the 10,000 capacity venue almost full. "Bloodstack open air 2018(Aug. 10)" also participated. On August 20,2018, LOVEBITES announced that it has partnered with X-ray Touring, one of the largest players in the UK booking agent industry. LOVEBITES toured the Netherlands, Germany, France and UK from November 13-21, 2018. Asami (Vo) of LOVEBITES appeared as a guest on stage at Halestorm "Download Japan 2019(March 21)", singing alongside "Lzzy" Hale on Halestorm's 'Love Bites', which gave the band their name. LOVEBITES performed as a support band for "Arch Enemy's China tour at the Shanghai show on March 23 and the Beijing show on March 24, 2019". LOVEBITES participated in "dowload Festival 2019(June 15)". And Asami of LOVEBITES appeared as a guest on stage at Halestorm Download Festival UK 2019, singing alongside "Lzzy" Hale on Halestorm's "Love Bites" again after Japan. LOVEBITES join DragonForce on UK tour 2019(Nov. 2-14). On 2 December 2019, LOVEBITES was the support act for the Tokyo leg of Halestorm's Japan tour. On January 10, 2020, a headline show was held at the venue "The Colosseum™" in the resort hotel Hard Rock Hotel Singapore Resorts World™ Sentosa. I understand that you might not like Asami's vocal style. Everyone's entitled to their opinion I suppose, and vocal preferences is extremely subjective. I personally love Asami's vocals, and I have heard analyses done of Asami's vocals done by professional singers and vocal coaches who are very complementary of her control and power. The suggestion that they are "packaged" is just ignorant. Unlike baby Metal (which is 100% packaged), LOVEBITES are an organic band consisting of elite musicians. The guy on the right is (to be frank) a bit of a dick. Their history is public and easily discovered by anyone who can READ and CLICK a mouse. The fact that this clown goes by what he "feels" rather than spending 5 minutes doing some actual research says a lot about him. Very American of him to not let actual facts get in the way of his feelings. Seriously, that "we're in a club" comment is just arrogant gate-keeping. So, in order to be in the club, I suppose you need to cosplay bikers and look angry all the time and sing about depression and death. Barely half way through this video and can't watch any more. The bottom line here is that LOVEBITES are arguably THE most musically talented metal band on the planet. At the VERY least, they are in the top three, along with Dream Theater and Symphony-X.

Well that was an interesting video. I looked to see what other albums they have reviewed and saw they had done a top 5 albums of 2023. I couldn't resist watching it. Here are my brief observations. The number one picks were interesting. Casey chose Levitation Sessions by GOAT which is a pick that I can't argue with. I am familiar with the album and, although it would not be on my top 20 list, I can understand someone really falling for it. I am a stoner/psych fan myself. Matt chose Homicidal Ecstasy by Sanguisugabogg which is also a pick that I can't argue with. The band is a talented death metal band but I would not have the album in my top 5 death metal albums from last year but likely in my top 10. The vocalist is of the literal one note variety that puts me to sleep despite the music. A few days ago I saw a much better death metal band (Crypta) with a vastly better vocalist that released a superior album last year. Nathan chose the newest album by Rancid. I haven't heard it and probably won't. Rancid hasn't been relevant or released anything good for 20 years. I doubt the new one changes my perception or it would have created at least a ripple of excitement last year (a year when many elder bands released some great material). The rest of their top 5 was enlightening. Casey's other 4 are uncontroversial. I like 2 of them also (Hanabie and Entheos) and Avatar has been on other lists. The biggest headscratcher for me is Powerwolf at 2 (I am not a Powerwolf fan). Matt has the most interesting other 4. I was genuinely pleased he included PJ Harvey and the album by Urne is fantastic. I decided to listen to it again while typing this. Queens of the Stone Age and Paramore are solid picks. I can't really say much about Nathans other 4 since I have never heard of them. I am guessing that they are all of the Hardcore Punk variety which means two things - he needs to listen to a lot more genres of music and his taste in music is polar opposite of the music of a Lovebites type band. As far as this video goes, I have heard the Asami bashing before and I still don't understand it. Her voice fits the genre perfectly and she is one of the best belters in the business. The decision to sing in English was not her decision but her experience with singing in English helped get her the job. The decision regarding English was very likely part of the vision of ex-member and founder Miho. The only thing in this video that I found equal parts arrogant and stupid was that somehow Lovebites isn't genuine. The band was formed by a member who was previously in another metal band who recruited other experienced musicians, one of which (Miyako) was also an experienced composer. Miho and the band's producer brought in another experienced metal composer to help the members with much less songwriting experience because, in the very beginning, Miyako was not yet an official member. Miyako, for the most part, composes alone and around two dozen Lovebites songs are her compositions. With the departure of Miho, the member to step up with the songwriting is the vocalist Asami. Stand and Deliver, the most popular song from Judgement Day, was cowritten by Miyako and Asami. None of the Lovebites albums have been mixed and mastered in Japan - they were done by Finvoxx in Finland who work with many other bands like Nightwish, Amorphis, Kalmah, etc. This decision to use Finvoxx was made, once again, by Miho who wanted Lovebites to have a more European sound. Lovebites made the auditions for a new bassist so public because they new it would excite their fans (which it did) and it would prove to the fans that they were, in fact, coming back as a band. They opened it up to be a worldwide search because I think they genuinely wanted to find a great bassist and weren't sure how many applicants would come from Japan (although I believe the new bassist would always be female and likely from Japan). It was fun guessing who the new bassist would be (my guess was in the top 5). If you watch her final audition, when it was down to 2 candidates, it is clear why she got the job - she is a damn good bassist, not to mention her look fits the band and she has the vocal chops to sing backing (as did Miho). What exactly was the basis for even a suspicion that this band is not genuine??? They are a band of world-class musicians, who write their own music and lyrics, and make their own decisions. How much more genuine can you get? Are Hardcore Punk bands more genuine because they are less known, less talented and vastly less musical??

@@Treplo13 I am not offended. My wife has the same opinion of Death Metal, even Melodeath. Crypta's album from last year, Shades of Sorrow, has melodic songs and some songs very much less melodic. The reason I like Crypta so much are 1) Fernanda's harsh vocals have variety, from the low growl to the high scream and 2) the musicianship is outstanding. I am a sucker for dual lead guitars and the two guitarists are fantastic and will only get better (Jessica had just turned 22 when she officially joined Crypta). This is an overview of LOVEBITES 55 self-written songs and 3 covers (plus 6+1 covers by band members) with your reaction marked with a star (*). All these songs are great, they have no bad, weak or meh songs, and no fillers at all. Every song is special, you could randomly select a song, best life, of course, and LOVEBITES won't disappoint you. They play many different Heavy Metal styles with a certain LOVEBITES sound, they revive the masters of the 80's (and 90's) in a fresh and modern way. LOVEBITES may have the most talented musicians around, all of them S tier. Drummer Haruna is relentless like a metronome, both Miho and Fami master their bass (for Fami's capabilities, you should visit "Alien Alien" from my list, it's in her RU-vid channel will almost 700K subscribers), the dual guitars M&M (for Midori and Miyako) is most certainly the best duo for trading guitar solos and harmonizing, and Asami's voice is stellar with big range, powerful belt and good vibrato. She is also a trained ballerina with exceptional stage presence. One reactor caller her "Stage General", which is perfectly put. Hard, tight, fast, relentless, effortless and clean, that's LOVEBITES. Fasten your seat belt and enjoy your ride!

LOVEBITES: Awarded "Best New Band" worldwide by Metal Hammer 2018 First all women Japanese band to play Wacken, 2018 Chosen from over 120 bands to fill Main Stage vacancy, Bloodstock 2018 Electric Pentagram voted among 20 best Metal albums of 2020 Judgement Day 5th all genre Japanese sales (at release) Judgement Day 1st in Metal releases, all major Earth nations (at release) (Interplanetary ranking currently still being tabulated) All shows sold-out on 2023 Japanese tours, extra show sold-out First USA show sold-out in 30 hours, 11 months in advance (!) Every review by a 'vocal coach' has only praise for Asami's singing My 'review' of your "review" ... (as far as I got, about 8min) seated left to right = increasing ignorance. (ignoring reality) (You didn't identify individual names so can't identify that way) I looked for any of your original music recordings with no success... Your by-far 'most viewed' video is your very first, 2+ years ago. About as many views as a typical LOVEBITES reaction gets in less than a day. (An indication of how many people agree-with/interested-in your 'reviews'?) Obviously you 3 are part of an overwhelmed minority among Metal fans. Get a guitar, drums, learn to play, write a song, sing it, get signed to major-label? What are your accomplishments that qualify you to critically "review" ?? Enjoy your ongoing obscurity ... (?)

@@mattbowden1981 Overall, I just thought the vibe was off with your reaction. Doesn't matter if you don't like a musical style, but even with your "bad vocals" comment here, that sounds more mean than critical. There are much better ways to be critical than what I heard here.

@mattbowden1981 you also seemed to have a recurring problem with manufactured Japanese bands, the band’s audition process for a new bassist and other things that weren’t relevant to this album. You spent more time bad mouthing the band about those issues than you did talking about the album. A very strange, negative review. As a person you came across as somebody with a hate of something that doesn’t fit your own small cube of acceptability.
@mattbowden1981
@mattbowden1981 5 месяцев назад
@@bargenmark7 you’re correct, I generally do not like manufactured bands like Menudo or Backstreet Boys. They’re generally commercial on purpose to make money. Bands that play for no money because they love the art usually make better music in my opinion. There are always exceptions, though. I think BABYMETAL and N’Sync are pretty good. It doesn’t matter what country it comes from, though. I like a bunch of Japanese bands. I think Sigh was in my top 5 albums of 2022. I have no problems being called out for my performance on this show. But I think I was clear why I did not like this. The vocals are not very dynamic. Someone in the comments said she has huge range. Show me her highest and lowest notes on this album. Maybe I missed it. The enunciation isn’t very clear either. Someone also said no other vocalist could have done this album. lol. The playing on this is pretty killer. Super fast guitar playing, kicking drums. But none of this sounds very original to me. This could have came out 10 years ago. I get it, some people love throwback bands, but I just don’t get much new sounding out of this. Bands like Dragonforce do this style better. This episode quickly became one of our most viewed ever, has the most comments, and has the most dislikes. Sorry you didn’t like it (someone in the comments said it was a 1.2 out of 5.0 which made me chuckle), but thanks for the engagement. We got two new subscribers!

@mattbowden1981 I still stand by my view that you spent way too much time frittering around the edges and not reviewing the album. To ask you a couple of questions to aid my understanding, why does it matter that this album could have come out 10 years ago? What revolutionary change has happened to change the landscape in the last 10 years? And for some context, my background is Hawkwind and Motörhead, they are the bands my love of rock/metal/whatever was formed. Beyond that, Metallica and Anthrax probably serve as my benchmarks. Now to LOVEBITES, you deserve the opportunity to explore their work further. I suggest you go to their own RU-vid channel and watch any of the videos they have posted in the last year or so. I would strongly expect viewing those videos would dispel any of the myths around record label controls or attempts to create a package. Yes they have an image, but so did Slayer, so did Def Leppard and so do almost every band. But their playing is finessed but also incredibly powerful and you may actually start to appreciate Asami’s vocals in a different light. I found LOVEBITES purely by chance but they have got me listening to metal again after a lengthy period of relative disinterest. They are powerful, talented, genuine. They flow across a number of different styles. They have fun, they interact really well with audiences. Their greater force is as a live band. I really enjoyed Judgement Day and would rate it around 8 or 9 out of 10. Of course, others like yourself will have the different view. Out of interest, what album in the last year or so would you rate at the 8 or 9 out of 10?

Totally agree. It's just not cool to mock the artist without knowing the background. It's hard to take these YT goofball critics seriously making the kind of obvious assumptions the way they do. That said, Asami's voice has been the most controversial of these talented ladies. Most LB fans have adopted or grown to love her mostly because the music these young ladies produced over the years. LB choose to sing in English because of the type of music they like. That's an artistic choice that the artists made. She can speak English reasonably well and clearly. I think some English voice could make a big difference to silence their critics. Her lone song in Japanese in their catalog shows her natural singing voice even better. I too wish they will write more Japanese songs.

Funny to hear some American guys judge about language skills from a Japanese band as they themselves are not able to speak one single language correctly...... And the comments about being genuine show that they have no idea what they are talking about. You should change your business - what you are doing here is absolutely zero added value !

Well, well, well... Seems like you guys have a different opinion than the commenters. Smh... rookie move. Sarcasm aside, the whole "metal is a club" sentiment is very off-putting in the context you're using it in. It's not a club because of exclusion or because you have to earn your way in, it's a club because it's intrinsic to the scene or even culture. You don't "accidentally" find metal. You can accidentally find just about any other genre of music. The super bowl shoves pop down your throat, action movies cram bro-rock up your ass, and Billy Ray Cyrus resurfaces every decade or so to remind you that country exists. Metal IS a club. Not because it's exclusive, but because your friend or brother or cousin showed it to you when you were young, and that's how you first got into it. Maybe it got you through some tough times, it's like a friend that's always there, and you know when you hear someone playing metal, they probably have a similar experience in some way. As you got older, you stuck with the genre because you fell in love with it. Maybe it inspired you to pick up your first guitar or start your first band. To this day, you get eye rolls, groans, and a myriad of negative reactions when you play it within earshot of someone who doesn't appreciate it. This is what makes it a pond, Nathan. Just my 2c. But truth be told, my biggest problem with this review is Nathan saying "a band like THE Deftones" and nobody corrects him. Fucks sake, man. As far as this Lovebites album, the vocals are a low point for me as well. I generally agree with the assessments, but favor this a bit more that Matt & Nate, less than Casey. I'd give it a 3.4 I guess. It'd be higher if the album had a bit more variety. The whole albums plays like one long track. And I'd give it even more points if the vocalist just sang in Japanese - which admittedly does come across as "pander-ish" for the American crowd. If you've read this far, Moon Hooch (2011). Start with the ~12 minute NPR Tiny Desk Concert on youtube, then go listen to the full album. Jazz-fusion, elements of ska, rock.... all wrapped in overtones of garage band and street performance. It's like if the band Seatbelts got addicted to heroine and found dumpster instruments. If this description doesn't make you look into it, then... you've probably never loved me.
